adding xml tags

Hi, To finish my project, aimed to describe a GUI application from SVG , I definitely need a way defining type of GUI element when drawing from inkscape (button, label,scrollbar...) . I am using the id to name the component eg (startstop) and I need another way categorize it (eg button). I do not want the following form : id=rtstopButton, because I would need string treatment when parsing svg to remove "Button" Have you got another idea/way ? Best Regards S.Ancelot

Not strictly an Inkscape problem but closely related When I print to a PDF file the Inkscape metadata information doesn't show in the PDF file, does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can write the metadata into the PDF file? Inkscape 0.46 / Ubuntu 8.04 / AMD64 With thanks, Terry

Inkscape book on Floss Manuals

A little PR for the Inkscape Docs team: We recently got our Inkscape Manual (the fruit of our Book Sprint) put on Lulu (http://www.lulu.com/content/4617381). You've probably seen the article by the Russian on the inkscape.org which has a link - if not, check it out! The published book, while being a reasonably finished work of good quality, is not comprehensive. We would like it to be more so. Here are some things that will help us to continue with this work: 1. Sales of the current version (somewhat limited 1st EDITION!!!!) on Lulu will help us afford a future Booksprint. 2. Contributions to the manual on our Floss Manuals workspace are greatly needed. Of course, as this needs some coordination, it's best to start on the inkscape-docs list (signup at lists.sourceforge.net) to find out where to begin. 3. Magical powers to generate whatever good thing we want without much effort. If you can help with any of these things, that would be GREAT! In particular, getting word out and posting the link to the Lulu store would be of great benefit. JF

Problem with fonts in 0.46

Saludos I've got this issue: in the pull down font menu, I can't pick any fonts. The fonts are highlighted, but they're not applied and the pull down menu is not closed, jus as if I've not clicked. Please help. -- Favor no cambiar el ASUNTO Please don't change SUBJECT

How to resize/reposition a group of objects

I'm currently editing some graphs by using Inkscape and am finding it a slow process to resize the graph. What I would like to do is resize the plot area (which is a few paths) to become bigger and not necessarily proportional, while the axis elements (such as the labels - a mix of paths and texts) are merely moved and do not change in size at all. I can do this by first resizing the plot area normally using the selection tool. Then I can make sure at least one of the axis elements is moved to the limits of the new size (e.g. the top and bottom of the plot area) and then use the distribute tool to evenly arrange them without a change in size. This can be quite fiddly and takes quite a fair chunk of time. Is there some method that I can use in Inkscape currently to speed this up? Alternatively would an addition to object properties - maybe a 'maintain size' property - be a worthwhile idea? If this is enabled on an object and a group resize is being performed, then the object should merely be moved and not resized. I can see some problems occuring with this however (e.g. what would occur if two horizontally laid out objects were to be resized in the vertical direction). What is everyone's thoughts on this? NEW: Auto smooth nodes

Thanks to Thomas Holder for the patch: Auto smooth nodes: a new "auto" node type was added, similar to the one Xara Xtreme has. An auto node is a smooth node which automatically adjusts (rotates and stretches) its handles when this node or its neighbors are moved. This adjustment (same as what you get when you convert node type to Smooth, but continuous) keeps the curve at this node as smooth as possible. It feels a bit like Spiro paths; although not as smooth as a Spiro, it may often be preferable as it works without any Path Effect. Whenever you manually adjust the handles of an auto node or drag the adjacent curve, it loses its auto state and becomes smooth; for this reason, it is recommended to edit smooth nodes with the node handles hidden via a toggle button on the controls bar. Auto nodes are represented by little circles, as opposed to smooth/symmetric nodes (squares) and cusp nodes (diamonds). To convert selected node(s) to auto, press Shift+A or use the corresponding node type button on the controls bar. -- bulia byak Inkscape. Draw Freely. http://www.inkscape.org
