Using Inkscape to prepare presentations

Dear all: I have used Inkscape for a while now, and the more I use it, the more I like it. Congratulations to the whole community and thanks a lot for your work! Among other things, I use Inkscape to edit illustrations for my presentations. One thing that I don't like about the process, is that I create the images, then export them to PDF and afterwards import them into Keynote. It's not very convenient and that got me thinking about a way to improve the process. After looking at different approaches for web slide shows (based on HTML, CSS, SVG and JavaScript in various combinations), I plugged together a small JavaScript programme that turns an Inkscape image into a slide show. Every layer of the image becomes one slide. The beauty of the approach is that the set-up and the definition of the transitions can be done from within Inkscape and everything is contained in the SVG image file. To view the presentation the SVG image can be loaded into any browser with JavaScript and SVG support. So far, I tested it successfully in Firefox and Safari on OSX and in Firefox on WindowsXP. There is lots more that could still be done to improve the code and to integrate it better with Inkscape, but I wanted to see what people think about it before I continue to work on improvements. save as... jpg

Hello everyone, I just downloaded the newest version of Inkscape 0.45. I tried to save my work as a .jpg or jpeg and I noticed that this option has disappeared form the "save as..." window. I remember I was able to do that in older versions. Can anyone tell me what's going on? Can clones override inherited style?

Hello all, I am trying to set a different stroke color on a clone, but this is only possible when I unset the stroke of the original which makes the original invisible. Is it possible for clones to override the style they inherit from the original? Thanks, Johan

Hi, I'm building an import filter extension for inkscape which needs some data for the import process. The wiki describes howto to write an INX file. There is a description how to define parameters for a UI dialog. Is this feature only supported for effects? 0.46, 0.45 startup problems on Leopard

I'm experiencing the 'X11 doesn't start' problem noted in some previous posts, but I don't see a clear resolution. Basically, 0.46 (0.45 dev mac osx binary) doesn't start at all, and 0.45 requires X11 to be open already otherwise it asks for X11 to be installed. Anyway -- here's some of the console log messages during a session this morning. If anyone has any ideas, it would be much appreciated. Inkscape did actually fire up a couple of days ago, but seemed to freeze a lot on file management tasks. Unfortunately I can't recreate that today. That's so old. Perhaps we could encourage students to take on refactoring tasks as projects. I really can't see the wisdom in making artificial restrictions. Decisions on a case by case basis seems best. That said, the refactoring that needs to be done is very important for moving forward. And it is best to make it a priority. Aaron Spike
