Yeah, I'll do whatever I can. I haven't done any work with linux. Been meaning to install ubuntu one of these days but haven't had a reason. I was wondering if it was still a problem in linux as the wacom driver is different. Of course it may still be a problem, I don't know exactly how these things work. changing default page settings on win xp

Comparable program tutorials

I was wondering since tutorials are severely lacking in Inkscape. Which program(s) (Illustrator, Coreldraw, ....) is Inkscape the most comparable to in terms of functionality. Because I seen where people have taken for instance Photoshop tutorials and replicated them in the Gimp. Problems loading svg files

Hi I`m using inkscape 0.44 on Ubuntu 6.10 Linux. After saving a normal svg file as 'inkscape svg', this file cannot be loaded anymore. Error-Message: Failed to load the requested file If I save the same file as 'standard svg', it loads without any problems. What's going wrong there? Regards Reinhard

toshiba m7 convertible tablet

Hello, I'm new here. I have a toshiba M7 convertible laptop tablet. In any mode but landscape primary (you flip the screen and can choose to have it in portrait mode to write on like a pad of paper) the tablet input still thinks it is in primary landscape or something and the axis' are all off so when i draw something with the calligraphy tool it is not where the cursor is. it works fine with the mouse. from what i have researched it has to do with inkscape (and the gimp) using the older wacom API as opposed to the newer HID that does not support rotate. Is there a workaround or fix for this? Maybe editing some variable to make it think it is always in portrait mode? I really don't want to have to go back to illustrator, but will have to if I have to turn my whole tablet around backwards to use it with the usb and lan ports all sticking at my stomach. i am using windows xp tablet edition. does the custom linux wacom driver work with screen rotation? i could install linux if i had to. or is it hard coded in the program and have nothing really to do with the wacom driver? Wondering why Ink is running slow.

Hello, I don't really know how to phrase this, on one hand it may sound like I am whining and on the other it's a real issue I experience. If this should be in another list or posted as a bug report, just yell. I think I'll just jump in. The thing : Inkscape 0.45 gets gradually slower and less responsive over a period of time. My system : Old AMD Athlon 1Ghz, 1 Gig RAM, Ample drive space (IDE), Nvidia something or other card, Kubuntu Dapper. The caveat : For some reason or other I have the very real (and seemingly unique) experience with GTK apps all running very slowly -- well the gui response makes them appear to be slow. Apps like Firefox and OOO and Gimp and wxPython stuff and Tomboy, etc, are all painful. Still, I am used to that basic sluggishness. I have been using Inkscape quite a lot in the last week doing icons and other designs and for the first ten minutes or so it's allright. Even fairly complex drawings (stuff all over, many layers, some bitmaps) are not a problem. After that, the refresh rate begins to slow. After about half an hour, it's in the order of seconds, not milliseconds. It's like move 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 re-draw, with big black squares gradually filling-in. I have found that I cannot leave tool dialogs open -- especially the fill/outline one. I must open one, use it and then close or shade it and move it off the canvas area. After 30 mins to 1 hour Inkscape really becomes impossible to use. I cannot select a single node without a long pause as the mouse freezes and then suddenly jumps into life (dragging the node radically). At this point I save my work and close the app. I wait for a couple of minutes and re-start it. All is well for a while. Repeat. BTW - what I am describing is not an illusion of slowness, it really does get slower. Oh yeah, one more thing, when I close Firefox it seems to give Ink a boost in speed but it does not last. So, what's going on? Am I running some processes or other apps that are known to interfere with Inkscape? Is it more of a GTK thing? Is my AMD chip a known culprit? Is my RAM bad perhaps? Dashed rectangle

I guess I have clicked something I shouldnt have! After having used the shapes tools (star, rectangle and circle) for a while, something happens so I only get a dashed rectangle instead of the shape. PostScript fonts print as Courier when Inkscape exports to EPS

When I save a drawing as EPS, and print it, some or all of the PostScript fonts are incorrect, and show as Courier instead. (When I view the EPS in Ghostview on Linux, everything looks fine.) Here are two slightly different cases: 1. Font is Helvetica Narrow Bold: All text items print as Courier. I get a similar result when I run the EPS through Adobe Distiller (which I did just to see what's happening); it reports: Helvetica Narrow-Bold not found, using Courier. Helvetica Narrow-Bold-ISOLatin1 not found, using Courier. 2. Font is Times Bold: First text item prints correctly, others print as Courier. When run through Adobe Distiller, it whinges: Times-Bold-ISOLatin1 not found, using Courier. Note: only one message, not two as above. My messy workaround: ------------------- If I edit the EPS file (diff shown), it works. (I.e. insert an extra dash in the font name wherever it's used, and use the original font name, without the -ISOLatin1 suffix.) 65c65 < /(Helvetica Narrow-Bold-ISOLatin1) /(Helvetica Narrow-Bold) newlatin1font --- > /(Helvetica Narrow-Bold-ISOLatin1) /(Helvetica-Narrow-Bold) newlatin1font 88c88 < /(Helvetica Narrow-Bold-ISOLatin1) findfont --- > /(Helvetica-Narrow-Bold) findfont Is there a better solution to this? (Presumably we're not the only site having this problem?) Inkscape 0.44.1 on Windows XP Printers used: HP4050TN PostScript and HP3700DN PostScript.
