Inkscape site slow?

Is it just me or do other people also experience rediculous load times for the Inkscape site? (homepage and Wiki main page, I didn't dare go any further) With rediculous I mean something like a minute, or even several minutes.

Boolean intersection of bitmap and vector shape?

Is there some way to import a bitmap into Inkscape and then trim the bitmap to match some arbitrarily drawn shape? I've tried doing a boolean 'intersection' between an imported bitmap and a closed curve object I've created to no avail. Do I have to trace the bitmap first? Any hints or tips how best to do it would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I'm experimenting with screencasting and have created a quick Inkscape screencast to try it out: ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfMDIK4uvV8)

I discovered now the reason for the mismatch: The problem is that inkscape takes the path AND its stroke width into account when processing a tile clone, i.e. the offset of the new rows and columns is not based on the centre of the line but on the outline of it which depends on the stroke width (see attached screen shot). However, to produce a pattern which is good for a patternfill it is necessary that this process is based only on the centre of the line, i.e. the offset of the new rows and columns is independent from stroke-width. (Screenshot: thin line results in small offset, thick line results in larger offset - take the grid as a reference; to make the pattern suitable for a fill pattern each line has to be place on the grid without offset) A solution is to diminish stroke width to 0, do the tile-clone, and then adjust the stroke width to the wished value. However, the problem reoccurs when this pattern is used as a fill pattern! Even there the stroke width is taken into account! This could be easily fixed with a clipping mask. But the latter does not work with the command "objects to pattern", it results in an empty pattern. blend function in inkscape

Hi, I am new in Inkscape and I am happy with the function that provided in Inkscape. It is great ... and I would like to learn on how to use this tool :D I would like to know, whether there is function Blend like in Adobe Illustrator ? I would like to know if there is the equals function in Inkscape. Mask/Clip is kinda hard to use

Hello, I don't know if I'm alone in this, but the mask/clip options in vers x.x are very hard to use. The results are hard to predict. Colours of objects will change (depending on fore/back ground order etc). Also, the difference between clip and mask is not clear. I come from a (distant) background in Macromedia Freehand and in that world they had a concept called "Paste Inside". 1. Now that made perfect sense and was perfectly predictable. One did not have to setup a bunch of "tests" on the side. 2. You could select items within the mask, and easily edit/move them. In Inkscape 0.44, I get the feeling that those items are new and experimental, perhaps they will get a better user interface - I'm not sure where the coders are at now, I know they move really fast on a thousand fronts. Anyway, any pointers? /d
