Printing on Suse 10.0 Fails

I'm running Inkscape 0.43 on Suse 10.0 with KDE 3.4.2b and when I try to print, nothing happens. The print dialog never appears. If I run Inkscape from the command line, I see the following errors: (inkscape:10775): GnomePrint-CRITICAL **: gnome_print_fill: assertion `gp_gc_has_currentpath (pc->gc)' failed (inkscape:10775): GnomePrintCupsPlugin-WARNING **: iconv does not support ppd character encoding: ISOLatin1, trying CSISOLatin1 Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. You need: - A LaTeX installation (recommended Miktex); - If you installed Miktex, then you will have both latex.exe and dvips.exe already in the PATH (if not make sure this is the case); - Download and install "pstoedit", you will need to add the folder of pstoedit.exe to the PATH; - Install Ghostscript; - For some reason the extension fails to check the PATH requirements. Hence go to "(...)\inkscape\share\extensions" and edit eqtexsvg.inx (notepad or any text editor should just be fine). Remove the following three lines: <dependency type="executable" location="path">latex</dependency><dependency type="executable" location="path">dvips</dependency><dependency type="executable" location="path">pstoedit</dependency> Remember to save the file. - (Re)Start Inkscape. Now you should have the Latex Equation option > (and it should be working). The dependency check fails because on win32 systems there is no executable called "latex", it's called "latex.exe" instead. I changed the dependency checking a couple of days ago: the current development version will check for "latex", and if it cannot find it, it will check for "latex.exe". Indeed a very nice extension! Hi Gary, I used to get the same error using the latest Inkscape EXE, while Ghostscript wasn't installed, but after installing it the error is was gone . Also, one can have problems if MikTeX is installed using a limited account. I will try using a limited account later, but I am pretty sure I made a poster full of latex equations using Inkscape from a limited account... > It works (sort of -- see below)! OpenOffice Draw / Inkscape Printing

I have received much help & many suggestions trying to determine why a custom sized document (a banner measuring 8.5 x 24 to 40 inches, landscape direction) does not print on my HP Deskjet 5650 printer. Thank you everyone!!! I'm still having a problem though. My problem is that I can get the complete banner printed except the complete banner prints on one sheet of paper only. So the entire 24 inch banner (for example) will print on an 11 inch sheet of paper. I need to "expand" the document to its entire 24 inches and print that. I tried OpenOffice Draw today. I am able to create a banner, 8.5 x 24 inches, and print it with no problems. Actually Draw seems to be very cool. After I set the print options (in the HP printer set-up box), a warming box opens that says that the page settings do not match the print range. The warning box contains the option to "Print on multiple pages". I select that and the printing is completed on continuous paper (as set in the HP printer set up box) and to its full length. Is there a page setting/print range setting that I am missing in order to get Inkscape to print the full 24 inches? I searched all over the place. I'm thinking that, althought OpenOffice Draw sure seems to work (it does print)well, Inkscape is more robust and contains more features then Draw. So please ignore the previous wild guesses, it seems that you must do something in the print dialogue. Most probably, under the "Properties" of the printer inside "Advanced". Your assumption is correct, whenever you manage to have the whole thing highlighted you you print it all. You must play with your printer settings (File\Print...\Properties and File\Print...\Properties\Advanced). If I were you, I would check the print properties in the applications that do print correctly, this way you could maybe get the hint of what is incorrectly set in the printing from Acrobat Reader. How did you manage to get 14 inches highlighted? Did you try Portrait? Did you try checking all your options in "File\Print...\Properties" under the "Layout" tab? Did you try checking all your options in "File\Print...\Properties\Advanced" under "Page/Output"? Keep playing with the print settings, I really believe that your solution is there. How to create drop shadow.

PLease forgive a question from an absolute newbie. I understand how to use filters in e.g., Gimp. but I don't know where to start with Inkscape. Can someone walk me throught the steps needed to take a text string and add a drop shadow? I have read the page in one of the manuals and it says: ------------------------------------------------ Inkscape does not support filters yet. However, filters can be added with the XML Editor. The following two examples show how filters are included in an SVG drawing. ----------------------------------------------- What exactly does this mean? do I create the drawing, and then add the code from the manual to the definition of the drawing? windows install issue + Flash import

hiya - just tried installing the Latest build on windows and get an error: libatkmm-1.6-1.dll can't be found... and the installer quit. any suggestions? is there an installer with all the dependent files included? Also, is there any way to get inkscape created elements into Flash? tx, /dc

Hi all, I do not use Inkscape to print, but Adobe Acrobat (since you do not want tiling, the Reader version should be fine). The steps that I follow are (roughly): 1) Download the latest Windows version (inkscape-LATEST.zip); 2) Run it, select/make the appropriate page size, draw; 3) Save as "PDF" and save as "Cairo PDF" and compare both PDFs (in particular if you have transparencies); 4) If I am using a "fancy" page-size that I created. I make sure I have that page size available in Windows. In case you must create one the steps are: Go to "Start\Printers and Faxes" Go to "File\Server Properties" Under the "Forms" tab I create the appropriate form (i.e. page size) and save it with a nice name. 5) Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat and print it. But note that: - You must check under the document properties (Ctrl+D) that the page size is correct. - Remember to select the appropriate paper size for the pirnter (inside "File\Print..." then "Properties" and in "Advanced..."); - Selecting Adobe to rescale or not should not provide different results, but these can happen. So it is worth testing. I am able to print huge and/or custom works this way without problems in many different printers. Wild wild guess: if everything else fails, try printing an exported bitmap with a resolution of 600 dpi or less. _________________________________________________________________ Search from any Web page with powerful protection.
