New translations we need?

The translation team has made some amazing progress for 0.44! Many translations are now at >98%, which is great. So next is to ask what other translations would be worth increasing in level? I looked at the GNOME translation statistics to use as a guide. Here are the languages that GNOME has at 50% or greater: bg, ca, cs, de, en_CA, en_GB, es, fi, fr, nb, ne, nl, pl, pt, pt_BR, ru, sk, sr, sv, uk, vi, zh_CN, and zh_TW Of these, we have some at >80% already. The ones in Inkscape that are not at 80% are: bg, en_CA, en_GB, fi, nb, ne, nl, pl, pt, pr_BR, ru, sk, sr, sv, uk, vi Since pl, pt_BR, ru, sr, and uk are between 60-80%, they seem like they should not be hard to boost to at least 80%! en_CA and en_GB ought to be fairly easy too. If anyone knows a speaker of one of these languages that might be willing to volunteer to do Inkscape translation work for 0.45, please consider talking to them about this. It would be quite a victory if we could get these languages covered! Bryce

Yeah, that sounds right. Which repositories do you have enabled? I'm not sure if Debian has the same terminology, but I have my Ubuntu looking in main, Universe and Multiverse. If the Debian box is just looking in main and Inkscape requires something in Universe (or equivalent) that may be why. Masking problem

Hi, I try to use the possibility to mask objects. As I read, the normal way is to select the object to be masked, select a second object above, which will be the mask, then: Object > mask > set. I did this, but as result, the object below just disappears. Please see the demo at: http://www.hagoschaos.de/test/test.html What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the Mac Intel version. I sent you a monetary thank you through Sourceforge. It looks like it went through, but I would like confirmation that you can access it. Paypal didn't list it as going to Inkscape specifically unlike the Gimp project does when you send money to Gnome for Gimp. It does list me on the page of contributors to Inkscape under benhuot.

A 2.5-year-old laptop with a 1.3GHz Centrino and 1.25Gb RAM. Not cutting edge, but not too feeble. I haven't compiled very much under Linux on it, but I've compiled a lot of Windows code on it. Compiling Inkscape from scratch was way longer than I expected. I looked at the system meter a couple of times and the CPU was maxed. /George -- /George V. autopackage flaky

I installed .44pre4 by Autopackage on Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake under KDE with the latest security and stability including kernel updates. When I chose manage 3rd party applications and remove Inkscape like I did for .44pre3, my computer locked up on me and I had to do a hard reboot. After rebooting, I checked then and it no longer appeared in the list under 3rd party applications. Then I changed the .package file to make it executable and then double clicked on it. My screen locked up temporarily as it spent several minutes initializing. Then my dock disappeared. I saw it said it was installing various components and then it said it was done. My dock was still gone! Luckily I was able to log out by right clicking on the desktop. I logged back in, launched Inkscape and it seems to work fine. That is the last time I use Autopackage!!!

ubuntu palete for inkscape

hello all, as well as this list i also post on the ubuntu-art list. i spoke about the new palete feature in inkscape and asked if an ubuntu scheme could be made for inkscape. someone reckoned that inkscape uses the same palette format as the gimp, is that so? if that is the case there is one already available on this page..... https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Official is there any chance that the ubuntu human theme could be included in inkcape as one of the optional palettes? thankyou. john m.

Objects on a path

Hello, Is there a way to place copies of an object along a path the same way that text can be put on a path (with orientation perpendicular to the path)? Would this require that an object first be converted to a font? I've tried the Tiled Clones tracing and see that the L-system effect in 0.44 can define paths from rules. Thanks!, John
