unable to open older version

Hi Friends, I've just downloaded a fresh copy of version 0.48.5, the 7z package. But when I try to open inkscape.exe file, I get an error. This is on Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit, but approx 1 year old laptop. Application was unable to start correctly 0xc0000005. (only available button is OK, or X to close) I have done some searching on the error, and tried some of the troubleshooting steps - at least the ones I understand. No success yet. Of course it's not vital that I get this version open, but I do occasionally need older versions to help users with problems. As far as I can recall, I have had this version open a few months ago - maybe 4 to 6 months ago. I have no idea what might have changed. But since that's the format for Windows errors, I'm thinking it's a problem with Windows. Does anyone have any experience with this, or have any idea how to fix? Thanks for any comments, brynn

How to eliminate aria-label, flowRoot and rdf from my SVGs

Hi all, I've created a bookwriting format called Stylz, which can be turned into an HTML doc or ePub by running a program. I check the ePubs with a very strict program called epubcheck, and the only errors it still finds are errors in my SVG images, even after I saved the SVGs as plain-svg. Specifically, it complains about my <rdf> elements, my <flowRoot> elements, and my aria-label attribute. Can I just remove the two elements and delete the attribute, or do I need to do something else to preserve the look of the image while getting rid of these three? Thanks Tav for the feedback. Im working in a feature to allow use min lenght of a segment to define the aproximate lenght of the hole/dash, this allow corner perfect dashes in a rectangle with diferent ammount of dashes. I go to the link you send to catch more ideas... I realy like more a SVG spec than a LPE, mainly because Im not recreating the stroke but subdividing the segment, so we cannot handle fills without fill between many LPE. Regards. Inkscape no fonts

Hi guys, I try to run Inkscape 92.3 on OpenSuse 42.3 with snapd, but there is no fonts. It is running but i only see small square boxes. Can anybody help me? Tnx Sam

Locking in Users, Was: Website Feedback

Dear Erlönd Everaert, I'm the Inkscape Website Administrator, I'm not a lawyer and you should certainly seek legal council to get to know Free Software more and how it can help you do what you want to do. I'm sending this to the greater inkscape user community for feedback. Inkscape is Free Software licensed under the General Public License version 2. This comes with all the freedoms you need to present Inkscape to your customers, but it also stops you from removing Freedoms from your customers too. Everyone, you, your customers and anyone else MUST continue to have access to the software and it's code. This doesn't mean however that you couldn't present the most useful template, even default template with logos and such to customers. You can do that. But customers would be free to take your template apart and extract their copyright/artwork from the template too. My best advice, honestly, present your customers with the best experience. Make it the most convenient and easiest to use without making efforts to manipulate your customers into locking them in. Those locks will stop more customers from using your company than you'll get from stopping someone who goes with a competitor. Of course as the company with the best Inkscape workflow all worked out, your company will always be the most convenient place to have the work done and our large community will always respect a manufacturer that respects their customers. grayscale to s-code ngc

Hi, I'm building a laser engraver. I'd like to engrave grayscale pictures. To build the ngc-file I'm using inkscape ( what else ). The graffiti/ spraygun option in Gcodetools seems the right choice. Nevertheless grayscale is not translated to S-values. I need these values because my laser uses the spindle speed as reference for its intensity. Does anyone know where I can find documentation/ solution concerning this issue ? Greetings, René.

Suggestion for New User

Hi, I recently began using Inkscape on Windows 7 for the first time (0.92.2), and have been having some problems. Since I'm a brand new user, I'm not sure if this is due to my inexperience, or if there are some actual bugs. I've been following an online tutorial from Derek Banas ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qqTAjBaeJ0 ), but it refers to a much older version of Inkscape, and many things don't work the way the tutorial says. It has been created by colour professionals from Germany and Switzerland. The atlas comprises the following elements: - a printed reference (A4, ring binder) of 2040 colours, based on the intuitive HLC colour model (Hue, Lightness, Chroma), with increments of 10 between each hue. It also includes colours that can't be reproduced in regular CMYK workflows (spot colours). Unlike commercial products, its colour precision is extremely high, with a DeltaE00 of 0.5, i.e. colour differences between two copies of the atlas can only be measured but not perceived, even by a trained eye. Each atlas is being produced with a Fogra-certified high-end proof printer on Fogra-certified paper by a Fogra-certified company. Each copy is also being shipped with a production record (ISO 12647-7:2016); - a printed introduction and usage instructions in German and English; - colour palettes with LAB values for Adobe software (ASE format) and in Swatchbooker's SBZ format, as well as sRGB versions for LibreOffice (SOC), GIMP (GPL) and Scribus 1.4.x (XML). Please note that Scribus 1.5.x already includes the SBZ file, and an sRGB version is being shipped with LibreOffice since version 5.4.x, as well as the current officially stable Scribus 1.4.6. - A PDF master file of the atlas with layers for different output targets (e.g. sRGB, ISOCoatedV2); - XSLX files with colour conversion tables and QC report; - a CxF v.3 file which includes the colour data in spectral values. All files are available for download here: https://www.freiefarbe.de/thema-farbe/software/ The latter is important, because we want to enable others to create their own reliable references without having to ask for permission or paying licence fees. Thus, an ink manufacturer can simply load the CxF file into its formulation software and create the correct mix for his particular inks. Manufacturers of other colourants (e.g. paint, textile colours or plastics) can do the same, provided their software is supporting CxF, which is an open standard. This is also the reason for us not to publish any mixing recipes, because all necessary data to reliably recreate a colour are in the CxF file, so the recipes can be created and customised by software. Whilst the digital files are available for free download under a CC licence, the printed reference needs to be paid for, because production and certification are quite labour-intensive (introductory offer: EUR 99.-- until 31 March 2018, later: EUR 149.-- plus VAT and shipment costs; see: https://shop.proof.de/index.php?language=en). freieFarbe/freeColour are convinced that the "HLC Colour Atlas" is not only a true and open alternative to Pantone, HKS etc., but we also think that the very high quality standard of our printed reference will be hard to match. Our next step is to fill in the necessary paperwork to make this open colour system a DIN SPEC with the German industrial standards organisation DIN (April/May 2018). Google Chrome displays the correct fonts when I use “|font-family:'Great Victorian Standard';|”, “|font-family:'Great Victorian Swashed';|”, or “|font-family:'Great Victorian Swashed SC';|”, but Inkscape complains—it wants the font-family to be “Great Victorian”, and does not offer me the option to select the variants. I’ve checked the bug database, and this might be an example of <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/165521>, but is there a work-around someone can suggest? —Joel C. Salomon

Hi all, just wondering if there is a drop shado filter dialog in inkscape? Scrolling through the filter list I didn't find one, only different kinds of shadow filter. Of course I know how to create a drop shadow but repeating it over and over and memorizing the settings is a bit tedious. Cheerz, Lars

SVG Version 1.2 vs 1.1

Hi, I encounter problems with the Oxygen XML editor due to the fact that the SVG inkscape produces are Version 1.2 which the Batik renderer can not fully parse since it does only use SVG Version 1.1. The easiest way to solve the issue would be to restrict inkscape saving to Version 1.1. How can I achieve this? Chromatic Aberration Filters Proposal

Hi all, I released some filters that allow emulating a very basic chromatic aberration effect. Reusing similar images/vectors across multiple projects

Hello, My use case is this: I want to use inkscape to annotate my pdf music scores. Basically "highlighting" stuff different sections and adding text, etc for performance directions. One thing I'd like to be able to do is quickly and easily add common musical symbols (examples here: http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.18/Documentation/notation/the-feta-font#dynamic-…) (I'm not sure why the heading is "Feta Font" and then it mentions "Emmentaler font"). The example show is already on my system and open-source. I have SVG font files files (which I've never used and aren't showing up in my Character Map software) and .otf (I think; or some other common font format) files. Additionally, I can have the music program export each character/musical symbol as an individual SVG. I thought the easiest way to do this would be to use a character map application. On inspection, that seems to be less than optimal to say the least (the fonts that lilypond uses seem to be spread through about 10 different font files, and may fields are empty. I have a very, very hard time finding them there). It seems like it would be easier to memorize the 30-50 utf encodings + the specific font name (is it emmenalter-15 or emmenalter-16?) than using that. And, obviously that isn't easy. Additionally, some font characters often appear together (for example, the symbol for /forte, f/ often appears with an /m/ in front of it as a modifier), and that just adds some complexity. The other solution I think may be useful for other, more common use-cases; however, I can't seem to find any implementation of it. So, barring some unforeseen solution there, I think the better option is this: to have some sort of "bank" or "library" docked tab that I can add the desired symbols/shapes to. Then I can just drag and drop these into different projects (this would probably involve having lilypond export each desired symbol, opening the resulting SVG file in Inkscape, and copying each vector into the "library"). Does this functionality exist somewhere that I'm just missing?
