How do I do 2 point perspective using inkscape?

How do I do 2 point perspective using inkscape? I could not find it in the documentation. You know parallel lines meet at a point on the horizon? Blur tips

Some tips for using blur in Inkscape SVN: 0. Use the Blur slider in the Fill and Stroke dialog. You can blur anything - paths, shapes, strokes, calligraphy, bitmaps, text, clones, groups. 1. Currently, the maximum blur radius is 10% of the object size. Any larger blur will reveal the clear-cut margins - the blurred object cannot (currently) spread wider than the 10%. However it's easy to work around this limitation: group the object that you want to blur with some large fully-transparent object, thus making the group larger than the object, and blur the group. 2. Objects that store their transformation matrices (texts, groups, shapes, but not paths - unless you set "Store transforms" to "Preserved"), when scaled, scale also the blur applied to them. This means you can squeeze an object and its blur will be bigger in one dimension than the other. (It's also possible to do that by setting different blur radii for X and Y, but we don't yet have UI for that, though it works if you set it manually.) 3. You can combine blurring with gradients. For example, an ellipse with elliptic opacity gradient will look much softer and more natural when blurred. An object with a horizontal linear opacity gradient, when blurred, will look like it is more blurred on its transparent side than on its opaque side. 4. Masks and clipping are applied AFTER blur. That is, if you clip an object and then blur it (or blur it first and then clip - it makes no difference), the clipped edges will remain crisp. Often, this is what you want. If, however, you want to blur the clipped/masked edges too (possibly with a different radius), you can use grouping: group the clipped object with some other object (which you can then delete from the group) and blur the group. 5. A recipe for an autoupdating black drop shadow for object of any color: create object; unset its fill (it becomes black); create two clones of it; put one clone on top and paint any color; put the other color at bottom, blur it and shift sideways. Now you can edit the unset-fill original (use Alt+click to select it) and everything will update. Obviously, if you want a drop shadow of the same color as the object itself, just one clone for the shadow will suffice. 6. If an object has a fill that you don't want to blur (e.g. pattern, or if it's a bitmap), but you want to feather its edges, use blurred transparency mask: copy the object; paint it white; blur it as needed; scale the blurred copy down so its blur margins are entirely within the original object; select both the original and the blurred mask; do Object > Mask > Set. 7. You can use the Tile Clones dialog to create patterns of variously blurred clones - either with smooth variation of the blur per row/column, or/and with randomized blurring. -- bulia byak Inkscape. Error with recompiled 44.1

When I downloaded and compiled 44.1 I get this error: inkscape: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libpango-1.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_intern_static_string I use slackware 10.2. I have tried two different Gnome add-ons. Currently I am using Freerock (latest stable version). John Culleton

Palettes and swatches questions

Windows build crash?

Hi people, I'm experiencing a problem with the 0610072339 build, available from http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/?M=D. I'm running it on a Windows 2000 system, but it also happens on a WinXP system at home. Recipe: - open Inkscape - choose Text tool, click canvas, type text - choose Arrow tool Result: "Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now. Automatic backups ..." and so on. Thanks for the suggestion Lars. This worked. I upgraded to 0.44.1 for another reason and found the PDF creation to be much better than 0.42.2. With the new version I don't have to convert to paths. Artists needed!

With all the recent additions - clipping, masking, and especially blur - Inkscape is finally able to produce some real photorealistic art. This is a call to arms for all Inkscape artists to start working on some stunning examples of what's now possible in Inkscape. We will need them - the more the better - for screenshots, examples, tutorials, etc. etc. One thing I would like to request in particular: A car. It would be very nice to have a complex, detailed, photorealistic SVG image of a shiny impressive car. There are several reasons for why this is desirable. First, cars are sexy (for many people, anyway). Second, they are relatively easy to draw by tracing a photo - you don't need to be much of an artist for that, you just need patience, Inkscape skills, and a good photo to start from. Third, with their glass and brass and polish, well-lit cars are ideal for showcasing "photorealism". And finally, our main competitor at this time, Xara LX, has long used amazingly photorealistic images of cars (among other things) for its promotion, and it worked well. We need such an image if only to give people an idea of how we compare with Xara. More information: Trace bitmap, text on path funtions no longer work

Well, I remembered that I had not upgraded another computer to a newer version of inkscape, so I tried there (Inkscape-0.44-1.win32.exe). It's also XP Professional SP2. For text on path - worked fine and I realized that the problem was operator error on the newer version... ;-( Sorry. I was attempting to put "flowed text" into a path. That doesn't work. Trace bitmap - worked fine. Here is what I noticed: When I import a bitmap (jpg, png, bmp) into the 0.44-1 version on that computer it says in the status bar "image". Actually, one image that I used, and it traced it anyway, it said... "image with bad reference." On my computer rather than seeing the image import as an image, it sees it as a "rectangle". I attempted to uninstall inkscape and install the version that was on the other computer, but I get the same "rectangle" import. Very strange. SO, definetely an environment problem. But, I have no idea what. Anybody? THANKS. Maia

Dear people, first off all I have to say that I'M NOT A WINDOWS USER. After, my boss, that is a windows user, would like to use inkscape. We have tried to install it and basically we didn't have any problem. The question is that we would like to know which dependencies needs inkscape to run in windows, because we cannot use any import feature. So, we cannot open any ps, eps, etc file. We have tried to install python and perl, (without any success, or the import feature doesn't work four us), but I have to say that I don't know very much the windows platform (I'm very happy with the apt-get ;-) So, please, could you tell me which software is necessary/recommend to run a full inkscape in the Win platform? Trace bitmap, text on path funtions no longer work

Hi, all: Wondering if anyone has experienced the same problem I'm experiencing of functionality disappearing. Trace bitmap, and place text on path no longer work. Let me explain. I've been using inkscape for about a year now, in a Windows XP Professional SP2 environment. I really like the trace bitmap capability. In fact, this is what got me to use inkscape. I want to be able to convert images (especially pictures drawn by children) into vectors for download to my sewing machine for embroidery. For a while, in the beginning of this year, I wasn't doing this type of work so I didn't use inkscape for months. When I got back to it, I downloaded the newest inkscape version. Then (end of June) it was 0.44. Trace bitmap no longer works for me. Since then I've downloaded several versions including some LATEST. In trying to debug I followed step-by-step the instructions in The Northern Pacific Railway Logo - A Tracing Example (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/ch02s05.html) including using the same image in the example. Nothing works. The trace bitmap function popup window appears, you can click on the different choices and the selections you make show, but if you click preview or ok all you get is the text "Select an image to trace" in the status bar. With placing text on a path again, nothing happens. The worse thing for me is that I deleted the previous version of inkscape I had which had the functionality. By the way, I think it may be an environment problem. I can't believe that this functionality suddenly went. But, I have no clue what could be the problem. What does inkscape depend on? Basic problem with font substutition

I have a simple text document saved as a PDF using Inkscape (0.42.2). If I specify the text to be rendered in something vanilla like Times New Roman or Arial I can see in Evince successfully rendered text. With other more exotic fonts like Bookman Old Style or a Bitstream, some other font has been substituted in when viewed in Evince (or other pdf viewers for that matter). Inkscape 44.1 for Windows and OpenType font, Linux printing and PS export

Hi everyone... First of, I love inkscape best drawing software I ever used. But I have a few problems. It seem in windows, inkscape cannot access OpenType font, only TrueType font. Anyway to make OpenType work ? Also I was beable to print on my linux laptop using ubuntu with the default inkscape that came with it (using cups). But it had bugs and missed differents items, so I used the 44.1 package on the website but now I cannot seem to beable to print via CUPS... It just seem to try to pipe to lp. Anyway to fix this ? And last, the PostScript export doesn't work very well. Im trying to do 2 thing, export to PS for printing, and second to create PDF document. When exporting to ps or pdf it always missing items in my design. The only way I was beable to do 'good' postscript right now is in windows and tell it to print to file using the Apple Color Postscript printer, but even then, I got 1 object that doesn't print correctly. Any help on these issues would be great. Thanks Moc

incomplete dfont support

blender-like navigation in inkscape

Hi list, Lately I gave blender a try and was really impressed by its GUI. Blender is known to be hard for beginners, but I believe advanced users can be really productive there. I especially like the three shorcuts: g (grab/move) s (scale) r (rotate) They all work for an active object. Take the rotate operation - it is faster than inkscape's: 1) double click the object 2) select the rotation handle I wonder if it would be possible to create a blender-like, alternative shortcut-theme. This is not a complain against inkscape's GUI - it is great and I can be productive with it, but won't you agree blender's GUI would be faster for advanced users? regards, Karol

Inkscape doesn't use the preferred language on OS X

I can't get Inkscape to use the preferred language on OS X -- the UI always stay in English no matter what language is set the System Preferences. I'm using the latest versions of Inkscape (0.44.1) and OS X (10.4.7). (The behavior was the same under 10.4.4.) Any way to (re)solve this? g. -- Guillaume Grenier - grenier.g@...2018... Terrible crashes in 44.1

I've just installed 44.1 and discovered, to my great dismay, that on my system (Windows XP SP2) it crashes every 5 minutes. Unfortunately, I deleted my installation of 44.0, which used to work fine. Is there any place from which I can download 44.0?
