incomplete dfont support

It seems to me that support for Mac OS X dfont font type is incomplete. I can only access the Regular font weight, but not bold, light, etc. Cheers Sebastian

blender-like navigation in inkscape

Hi list, Lately I gave blender a try and was really impressed by its GUI. Blender is known to be hard for beginners, but I believe advanced users can be really productive there. I especially like the three shorcuts: g (grab/move) s (scale) r (rotate) They all work for an active object. Take the rotate operation - it is faster than inkscape's: 1) double click the object 2) select the rotation handle I wonder if it would be possible to create a blender-like, alternative shortcut-theme. This is not a complain against inkscape's GUI - it is great and I can be productive with it, but won't you agree blender's GUI would be faster for advanced users? regards, Karol

Inkscape doesn't use the preferred language on OS X

I can't get Inkscape to use the preferred language on OS X -- the UI always stay in English no matter what language is set the System Preferences. I'm using the latest versions of Inkscape (0.44.1) and OS X (10.4.7). (The behavior was the same under 10.4.4.) Any way to (re)solve this? g. -- Guillaume Grenier - grenier.g@...2018... Terrible crashes in 44.1

I've just installed 44.1 and discovered, to my great dismay, that on my system (Windows XP SP2) it crashes every 5 minutes. Unfortunately, I deleted my installation of 44.0, which used to work fine. Is there any place from which I can download 44.0?

The burden of searching

I'm using Inkscape for many issues and over the years a large quantity of SVG graphics has amassed themselves spread over different folders. While I'm reusing many pieces I find myself in a situation previewing folder after folder in the open-dialog. This is very unsufficient because it steals time for real artworking. I've tried 'inkview' but when I find the right graphic I have to remind folder & filename and all that sequential. Then I tried SOC project "clipart browser" [1], which seems to be the best approach to find graphics. It works fine with a local and OCAL[2] repository and searches also for svg-keywords. clipartbrowser shoud be a part of inkscape. I can also imagine to integrate 'tagging'-functionality seen on social bookmarks projects or OCAL's new cchost[3]. Printing Banners/Posters

For those who print custom sized documents using Inkscape, I ran across another app which seems to work very well printing BOTH banners AND posters. Check out Posteriza 1.1.1 (www.posteriza.com). So far this app has printing everything I've drawn (if thats what you can call my attempts to draw). I can enlarge to HUGE sizes. Save your Inkscape document as either a bmp or png file (the two I've tried to date). Open in Posteriza, make the size changes, and print away (and yes, HPs can print banners - I've finally had success with mine - I say this for my benefit. I was ready to throw the printer out the window). I sincerely hope that others can use this information. I've received so much support as I attempt to print odd sized things, I want to repay in any way that I can. Inkscape is very cool and fits absolutly perfectly in my class where students just love it. Now that I can print their work with no porblems (so far), the kids are almost too excited. different font sizes in Scribus and Inkscape

When I print out the same text phrase in both Inkscape (0.44) and Scribus (1.3.3), using the same pt. sizes and typestyle, they come out looking different. The Inkscape printout is noticeably smaller than Scribus. Any tips as to how I can remedy this situation? Thanks, Wayne

PDF export - dirty overal rendering (text, lines...)

Hello everybody, I noticed that when I am exporting a figure in PDF format, the result is pretty dirty. All the contours are bigger than in my original figure. As a consequence, the text and every lines are deformed. To read the pdf, I try xpdf, acroread 7, acrobat reader 6.0 (win) and the result is always the same. However, when I use gpdf (a very simple pdf viewver), the rendering is correct. Unfortunately, my figure aims to be use in a beamer presentation which will be read with acrobat reader... I also try to do an eps export then a pdf conversion (epstopdf) but in this case the colors change and the shape keeps on being not very cute. Last thing : I use inkscape 0.44 on a ubuntu dapper distribution. Thanks in advance. Best regards. Roland. PS: Sorry for my english writing.

EPS export changes for 0.44.1

Hello, what was changed for the EPS export in 0.44.1? It's completely broken and unusable here. The problems are: - font is wrong (when not converting text to path) - drawing area has changed (I need something like --export-area-drawing, but that parameter doesn't work for EPS) Any hints? Printing Banners & Posters

For weeks I've searched for answers to printing Inkscape documents that involve custom sized documents(using continuous paper on an HP printer. Thank you everyone for the helpful advice and solutions to my problems. Unfortunately, I just could not get the print I needed. During my searching, I ran across "Poster Printer 1.0 (beta)" located at SourceForge.net. This printer app works GREAT so far. When you press print, Poster Printer shows up as a printer choice. I've been able to print the documents that would not print with Inkscape, or would not print correctly when converted to pdf or ps files on continuous paper. Another solution I found was to buy ($18) a copy of "Poster 7" which is a banner/poster maker app. I convert my Inkscape document to a JPEG file, open it in "Poster 7", make the necessary size changes and print. I use Inkscape to create my document and then use either app to print. "Poster 7" will print just banners to any size (up to 100 sheets long I think) along with posters up to 9 feet tall. "Poster Printer 1.0" resizes all documents to posters so you don't really get a banner but a poster instead. So far, both work great to print from. PLEASE, Inkscape code writers, incorporate these really useful printing options found in the above mentioned apps. I would think that the usefulness of Inkscape would be greatly increased, at least to users like myself (teachers, etc. with very limited tech. $$$$$). Hello everybody, I have a question regarding this great little wonder that is Inkscape : I want to use a font. But this font does not show in the list of font under the Text and font dialog box. This font is well installed on my C:\WINDOWS\FONTS. But it wears a .pfm extension not .ttf. How can I have Inkscape recognizing this font. I use a french 0.44 version of Inkscape on Windows XP. What does "sodipodi" in svg file?

Hi, I draw something in Inkscape and save in the svg file. But I don't understand what "sodipodi" means? I couldn't find it in the SVG manual http://www.w3.org/TR/2003/REC-SVG11-20030114/paths.html. Would you please help me if you know what it means? Opacity on Export for PDF/PS

Hi, I'm seeing some behavior I didn't expect when I export to PDF or Postscript with Inkscape 0.43 and 0.44. Basically, I'm trying to create a fancy CD label and I have 5 layers (from bottom to top): outline; band name; show location; show date & disc number; and track listing. For layout purposes, the outline layer has some circles to represent the CDs, which have a black fill and an opacity of 64. If I reduce the opacity to 0 and export the file as either PDF or Postscript, it completely ignores the opacity and renders the circle as a solid black fill. This gets even worse once the track listing is in place because of overlapping content. Is this a bug or is there a better approach? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! -Sean

Hi, I can't find an autopackage for the updated 0.44.1 on sourceforge. Windows and Mac versions are there, only one for Linux is absent. Would somebody please compile an autopackage? That would be cool! - Thorsten

Printing on Suse 10.0 Fails

I'm running Inkscape 0.43 on Suse 10.0 with KDE 3.4.2b and when I try to print, nothing happens. The print dialog never appears. If I run Inkscape from the command line, I see the following errors: (inkscape:10775): GnomePrint-CRITICAL **: gnome_print_fill: assertion `gp_gc_has_currentpath (pc->gc)' failed (inkscape:10775): GnomePrintCupsPlugin-WARNING **: iconv does not support ppd character encoding: ISOLatin1, trying CSISOLatin1 Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I changed the dependency checking a couple of days ago: the current development version will check for "latex", and if it cannot find it, it will check for "latex.exe". Indeed a very nice extension! Hi Gary, I used to get the same error using the latest Inkscape EXE, while Ghostscript wasn't installed, but after installing it the error is was gone . Also, one can have problems if MikTeX is installed using a limited account. I will try using a limited account later, but I am pretty sure I made a poster full of latex equations using Inkscape from a limited account... > It works (sort of -- see below)! OpenOffice Draw / Inkscape Printing

I have received much help & many suggestions trying to determine why a custom sized document (a banner measuring 8.5 x 24 to 40 inches, landscape direction) does not print on my HP Deskjet 5650 printer. Thank you everyone!!! I'm still having a problem though. My problem is that I can get the complete banner printed except the complete banner prints on one sheet of paper only. So the entire 24 inch banner (for example) will print on an 11 inch sheet of paper. I need to "expand" the document to its entire 24 inches and print that. I tried OpenOffice Draw today. I am able to create a banner, 8.5 x 24 inches, and print it with no problems. Actually Draw seems to be very cool. After I set the print options (in the HP printer set-up box), a warming box opens that says that the page settings do not match the print range. The warning box contains the option to "Print on multiple pages". I select that and the printing is completed on continuous paper (as set in the HP printer set up box) and to its full length. Is there a page setting/print range setting that I am missing in order to get Inkscape to print the full 24 inches? I searched all over the place. I'm thinking that, althought OpenOffice Draw sure seems to work (it does print)well, Inkscape is more robust and contains more features then Draw.
