rpms for novel 9.2

I have tried the rpms for inkscape .42 I have tried both Static binary RPM - i386 .rpm or i686 .rpm Actually all of them I could find. They compile fine but when I try to bring it up nothing happens. July 26, 2005 — The Inkscape community today announced the release of Inkscape 0.42, a cross-platform Open Source Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) drawing tool. Inkscape 0.42 is the most feature-filled release to date, with an exceptional number of major and minor new features, usability improvements, and bug fixes. While some of the new features simply fill long-standing functionality gaps, others are truly revolutionary. Inkscape 0.42 is one step closer to full SVG compliance. This release adds: * Flowed Text: Text objects that automatically re-flow to any shape (and not just a rectangle). * Text Selection: One can now select part of a text and apply any style to the selection, just like in a word processing application. * Gradient Tool: A completely redesigned and much easier to use on-canvas gradient interface with handles displayed directly in the drawing. * Effects: These are now usable from within Inkscape on all platforms. This version ships with a collection of effects including path interpolation, randomization, and various fractal algorithms. * Color Swatches: This standard facility of most graphics software is now a part of Inkscape. * Colored Clones: Clones may now be painted differently from their original. * Tile Tracing: The Tile Clones dialog can trace an existing image with tiling, producing a multitude of exciting effects. * Grid Arrange, Baseline Align, Unclumping: There are new, powerful ways to arrange objects. * Better PS/EPS Export: PostScript level 3 gradient support, better text handling, and a command line option for batch export are in this release. * Command Line SVG Analysis: Inkscape may now be used from the command line to query coordinates and dimensions of objects in an SVG file. * Better SVG/CSS Compliance: Notably, internal CSS stylesheets are now supported (read-only). * Mac OS X Support: In addition to Linux and Windows, Inkscape 0.42 is now available as a fully self-contained dmg package for Mac OS X. There are also dozens of smaller features and usability enhancements (especially in the Fill & Stroke dialog, Node tool, and drawing tools). In this version the development community closed 404 bugs, some quite serious, and 165 feature requests. Overall, the Inkscape developers are very excited about this release and heartily recommend upgrading. Thanks to Google's Summer of Code, there are four new student developers adding new functionality to Inkscape this summer. Michael Wybrow is adding connectors for automatic diagramming. David Yip is picking up the development of Inkboard (http://inkboard.sf.net/) to integrate networked collaborative editing of documents to Inkscape. Matthew Squires is adding DXF Import and Export. Greg Steffensen is working with the Open Clip Art Library to make a common graphical interface from the Library to Inkscape. rescale a SVG

Hello everyone, recently I created a presentation using inkscape. I specified 1280x1024 under File|Document Preferences|Custom Canvas. Then, I found out most installations use the display ratio 4:3 (e.g. 1600x1200, 1024x768, and 800x600) - including the computer that will run the presentation. Now, if I use inkview to view the presentation full-screen on such a computer, a white stripe is added to the right of each page - to keep the aspect ratio; compensating the difference 5:4 and 4:3. Of course, this white edge is unacceptable. How can I avoid this? Inkview has no options yet, and so the only solution is to change each SVG in the presentation. But how do I do this? Changing Custom Canvas again won't rescale the SVG - I have to: * select everything - Ctrl+A * Object|Transform|Scale - Vertical = 93.75% * Object|Transform|Move - Vertical = 32 * File|Document Preferences|Custom Canvas - 1280x960 This is a pain when I have to do this for all the pages in the presentation. Is there a trick that will achieve the same? Or a tool/script (possibly outside of inkscape)? Or am I to create a script in the inkscape (I have not looked into it but I would be able to write one using the Python interface for embedded scripting)? Another question, is there a repository/web page/whatever for sharing these scripts? TIA, jbar

Poster printing

Ok, Just wanted to thank everyone for the guidence. When piping to kprinter I get the kprinter screen now. I noticed in the upper right corner there was an option called properties. slecting it gave another page, I never noticed the little arrow before. when it is selected the poster option appears. when selected you can set the page size you are using and the poster size to use. Here is the great thing. It keeps all my line thicknesses the same. It is great! I do inlay work in wood and I needed the stroke style width to always stay the thickness of my blades regardless of scale, that's where vector graphics works for me. The one thing I haven't figured out is how to set the stroke style thickness so I don't have to re click it for every line I draw. Also it only holds two digits in the inch mode, I would really like to be able to get .015 instead of .02 but I figure it will come if it is possible. anyway thanks again __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? How can I achieve the same effect as "flood fill"

I've drawn a dartboard type grahpic using circle shapes and straight lines. I need to colour each resulting cell in the dartboard a different colour, somthing that I could use a flood fill or paint bucket type tool in graphic programs like the Gimp or Photoshop. What is the best way to achieve this in Inkscape? The Scribus Team is pleased to announce a technology preview of the next generation of Scribus - Open Source Desktop Publishing. The aim for this release is to bring improvements and enhancements for both professionals and beginning users alike. 1.3.0 improves Scribus' abilities in areas like performance, accessibility and workflow. With this release, we also commence support for Scribus running natively on Windows and Mac OS X. While it is very stable and usable, there are a number of under the hood changes which will continue through the 1.3.x series * Work is on-going to make Scribus more platform independent and alpha quality builds of Scribus are already working on Win32 and Mac OS X. A native Mac OS X build is available here: http://aqua.scribus.net * There is a new undo system, which includes an undo palette that has the undo history with details of each action. Undo also has object specific capabilities. The number of undo/redo steps can be set in the preferences. * Revised document and application preferences. Extensive attention has been placed on making preferences easier to use with document and application preferences distinctly separated. * Scribus now has "scratch space" which can be used to store objects partially or fully off the page. * Scribus can now generate Tables of Contents, based on user definable/selectable attributes. * Scribus now has its own built-in pre-flight verifier for printing or exporting to PDF. The pre-flighter is designed to look for issues which might cause problems when printing or exporting PDF. * More professional DTP features like adding ciceros for measurement units and support. Scribus now has true facing page support and page objects such as images can span them. * Scribus now has more extensive support for CMYK images, as well as clipping paths in TIFF files, CMYK-JPEG, as well as new support for native Photoshop ® PSD files. 16-bit RGB/CMYK TIFF and PSD support will follow soon. Hi all, We are closing in on the 0.42 release, and getting the last few bugs fixed. There are a _number_ of bugs which appear to be Windows-only. Unfortunately, since the developers are linux-based, it's hard to determine how to fix them and to check that the fixes worked. Thus, if you are a Windows Inkscape user, we really need your help right now, in the run up to the release. Please review the Bug Tracker, and in particular look at the bugs that are ranked at '9'. Install both 0.41 and a version from CVS, and try to recreate each bug on each copy. Then add a comment to the bug report about whether you can or cannot replicate the error. Make sure you're logged into SourceForge, so the developers can contact you with more questions or to verify if a change fixed it. If you do not have a SourceForge account, please include your email address. If you want to help even more, it is extremely valuable to have backtraces. You can learn how to make backtraces on the Report A Bug page on the website. The more you can do to help narrow in on where the bug occurs, the more quickly it can be fixed. Please try to find a couple evenings over the next week to devote to doing some testing; even if you can only test a few bugs, you will help make Inkscape on Windows that much more robust.
