0.92pre3 - error with 7z version

Hi Friends, I've just downloaded 0.92pre3, 64-bit, 7z version, for Windows 7, 64-bit, sp1. After extracting it, when I click on inkscape.exe, I get the following error message. "C:\Users\.....inkscape.exe is not a valid Win32 application." Same thing with 32-bit, 7z version. For both, 7z gives me a long string of Diagnostic Messages. I don't see any way to save this list of messages. (There are over 4000.) There is no option for saving or exporting. The only available option is Close. There is no context menu for the contents of the window. I can't highlight anything either. (Well, I can highlight the message numbers, but if Ctrl c is copying them, then Ctrl v is not pasting (into Notepad).) Oh, but every single one of them starts with "Unsupported compression method for....." It's possible my version of 7z is old. I could try upgrading, if it's possible that could be the reason. Let me know if I can provide any further info, files, docs, etc. Or make a bug report. Thanks, brynn

fill pattern to explicit paths

Hi, I'm looking for a solution to convert my fill pattern which looks like this: <pattern id="diagonalHatch" patternUnits="userSpaceOnUse" width="4" height="4" patternTransform="rotate(45 2 2)"> <path d="M -1,2 l 6,0 M 2,-1 l 0,6" style="stroke:#000000; stroke-width:1" /> </pattern> and then: fill="url(#diagonalHatch)" to explicit paths, cause in my use case I cant use the fill argument, everything must be paths. For now I convert my svg to pbm and back to svg, this is quick'n'dirty but was the only solution I found til now. I want to do this automated on linux, so I'm looking for a cli solution so I can integrate it into my process. Is this even possible with inkscape or are there other tools I could use? Hi Folks, I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct mailing list but here it goes: Wouldn't it be cool if we could have a survey of, let's say, max 8 to 10 questions to understand better how much our users are involved with the inkscape project and how they use the Inkscape. If they use it more to do mockups, design templates, buttons for websites, to vectorize raster blueprints or what. What do you guys think? This way we could try to bring more users to get involved with the project and try to understand better what do they look in the project. Maybe we could prioritize that. Suggestions for future contests. With so many entries, it's going to be really hard to choose just one. I seem to recall from the last contest, that the community was allowed to choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place vote. It also seems like there were 2 stages of voting, and in the 2nd stage, we only got one vote. But there were much fewer entries in the 2nd stage. Hhmm, looking back at the instructions for the last contest, it doesn't indicate what I remember, about the voting. So it's possible I don't remember correctly.... But if it was a dream, it was quite satisfying as a voter, to be able to choose 3. And the 2nd stage of voting made it more fun! Also might be nice to show the running vote count on the contest gallery page. If it's possible. Hi everyone, it's time to vote for the About Screen for the upcoming Inkscape version 0.92! We have a very diverse gallery with 56 entries, by 43 different Inkscape-using artists on the website. Everybody in the Inkscape Community is invited to cast their vote. performance issue with Objects dialog

Hi Friends, I'm working on a large file, but before I opened the Objects dialog, I wasn't have any performance issues. For example, group and ungroup of 30 to 50 objects, there was no delay. But after opening Objects dialog, I'm having approx 3 to 4 minute delay between clicking group or ungroup, and Inkscape doing it. Is this expected? Or should make bug report? Oh! Already reported: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1431274 In my opinion, this is quite unfortunate. If there's any time when this new dialog can be so helpful, it's working with large, complex files. This is an extreme delay which makes it unusable for me. :-( I hope this can be fixed. Windows 7, 64-bit, sp1, Inkscape 0.92pre2, 32-bit, exe installer. I could make up a test file for you, if it would be helpful. Or any other files I could provide, let me know. Help with a bug report

Hi, I am on a PPA (Ubuntu 16.04) of the latest dev inkscape. I notice that if I have the layers (or anything, like fill/stroke) open as a window (a dialogue tool window affair) - i.e. not docked - and then I close Inkscape, that window remains open. The only way to completely close inkscape is "killall inskcape" from the command line. I have looked at the bugs on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ but I am not sure how to check this is not a duplicate or known bug. The wording is tricky. Any ideas? /d

Hi is a problem because when you group a "circle" change from svg:path to svg:ellipse and this dont handle well LPE inside grups. Workarround: convert circles to paths pre-lpe it if inside a group. Cheers, Jabier.

nodes jump back (0.92pre2)

Hi Friends, Still playing with 0.92pre2 and came across some unexpected behavior of nodes. I made a very short video, but I can provide more docs if needed. (Btw, you can also see that weird HSL display in the window, which has been reported separately.) http://inkscapecommunity.com/jd/vids/node-jump.mp4 So you can see that I've enabled the rotation handles on some selected nodes, and rotated them slightly. Then I want to move them just by simple drag. But as soon as I drag them, they un-rotate themselves, so that the drag has taken effect, but the rotation was undone. Windows 7, 64-bit, sp1, Inkscape 0.92pre2 exe installer, 32-bit. I don't have a clue where to start looking for what's causing this. Since I guess this is a kind of tranformation, I looked at Inkscape Preferences > Behavior > Transform. It's set for Optimized, but I don't know (a) what that means or (b) whether it should even matter in this situation. Is there a way to prevent the rotation from being undone? It does work to do the drag first and rotation last. So I guess it's a workaround. Thank you very much, brynn

Perspective Path Effect on groups

I'm on the PPA of a (very) shaky Inkscape 0.92 devel build. (Ubuntu 16.04) Can anyone describe how to get perspective on a group? I watched the youtube (linked from the release notes) but it does not match what I see on my end. Steps: 1. Draw a few circles. Group them. Select the group. 2. Open Path Effects window. Add "Perspective/Envelope". 3. Switch to the node tool (manually). 4. Drag the corners around. It: 1. Only affects one thing in the group. 2. or crashes Inkscape. 3. or does nothing. use gradient mesh in About contest?

Rotate Copies LPE - possible bug?

Hi Jabier and All, I found an odd behavior in Rotate Copies LPE. Whenever I choose an odd number of copies, it makes double that number. Even numbers, it makes that number. So if I choose 6 copies, it makes 6 copies. If I choose 7 copies, it makes 14! If I set to 8, it makes 8. I set 9, it makes 18. Etc. Perspective/Envelope LPE is clone-like

Hi Friends, I'm usinig the Perspective/Envelope LPE (in 0.92pre2 for about screen contest). I duplicated an object which I applied it to, and set it aside, because I wanted to test a certain edit, but not lose the original. However, when I edit the duplicate, the original is edited too, as if it were a clone. Should that be happening? Or am I doing something wrong? Thanks, brynn

canvas display vs other viewers (0.92pre2 ?)

Hi Friends, Sorry for all the messages today. Even if I'm not much of an artist, just using this dev version for the contest, allows me to have a personal experience with all the various toys and issues. So I can be ready to help to answer questions from other users. I was having a little bit of a problem using a filter, and never did figure out why it looks differently on a larger object than on a smaller one. Eventually I just tweaked the filter on the larger one. But then I made a PNG export, and the filter looks much better through the Windows Photo Viewer (Windows 7). Compare http://inkscapecommunity.com/jd/ss/f1.png with http://inkscapecommunity.com/jd/ss/f2.png The first one is what I see in Inkscape. First, notice in the smaller object where the filter looks a little better than on the larger one. (I mean the lavendar colored strokes with Raised Border filter). But mainly I'm curious about the difference between the Inkscape canvas and the Windows Viewer. See in the 2nd one, the filters are displayed in a much nicer way, at least imo. So I know that different viewers have different abilities and support different features. But it seems to me like Inkscape should be having the most ideal display. What can the reason for this be? I have not noticed this much of a difference in previous versions. Ooohh -- I just learned from a previous question about the dpi being different in 0.92. Could that explain this different display? Is there some other place besides Export PNG, where I need to change the dpi? Something in Inkscape Prefs maybe? Thanks for your help :-) brynn

I'm thinking it would be good to have the deadline date mentioned on the instructions page. And I would do it myself, except I'm not 100% positive that it's the 13th. export area vs image size (0.92pre2)

Hi Friends, In 0.92pre2, when using Export PNG, I set it up for Export Area = Page. But the Image Size is different, even when the dpi is 90.00. The page size is 750 x 625, but the image size is 703 x 586 at 90 dpi. Here's a screenshot: http://inkscapecommunity.com/jd/ss/exppng.png Has there been some change with the dpi? pasting paths into 0.92 becomes rasterized

Hi Friends, I'm trying to paste the vector Inkscape logo from this file: https://inkscape.org/en/~inkscape/%E2%98%85inkscape-official-logo-vector into 0.92pre2, but it's becoming rasterized. At first I thought it might be because the file I'm working on might be getting big. But even in a new blank file in 0.92, it becomes rasterized. I've tried countless times. It pastes the Group of 28 normally as expected into 0.91 stable. Windows 7, sp1, 64-bit, Inkscape 0.92pre2, exe installer, 32-bit version. Inkscape 0.92pre2 15127 Anything I can provide for troubleshooting, let me know :-) Thanks, brynn
