Colours will appear differntly on different stock, but it is the the profiles that change the CMYK values to be better suited for coated/uncoated stock and print processes. Don't believe me Link two different profiles and see if the colour remains the same even with 100K. The profiles change the values. Same here, I would have left it ages ago, I find it works best for logo's and web graphics and it does what I need except give me a CMYK colourspace PDF without going into Scribus or Moonshiner. Hey Inkscapers, I'm working on adding some features to the inkscape website and I need some help with the design/layout portion of the work. I know lots of you are experienced with html/css and what it's capable of, so I want to throw it out there and see if I can get some users to help me make the website better. This is how I see it working: I send you a html file via email which I save from firefox from a running instance here. You have a play around with the design and where things should go and send it back. I then integrate your changes, do all the template work etc. Thoughts? Interested? Wow such community. Thanks all for the replies, with a lack of a good mailing list reader I have to reply generally or top post so forgive any confusion that might come from this. My original post was a feeler to see if anyone may have been successful in creating a pdf in CMYK colourspace straight out of inkscape using ghostscript/monshiner, instead of the extra step in Scribus. Chris they insist on CMYK because the inks used are C=Cyan M=Magenta Y=Yellow K=Black and the plates they use are separations of/to these colours/inks. Gez, I know inkscape doesnt really work well for a purely CMYK workflow, I knew that from the start. I must say that your statement about CMYK values tied to press settings are not what I, nor anyone I know in print and design have been doing, maybe your statement would make more sense(for me anyway) if you mentioned that printer ICC profiles are tied to specific press settings. Even so, thanks all for the responses I'll have to continue using the ICC linking method in the mean time.

Once you have the profile, the CMS tab in the fill/stroke dialog allows you to choose the colorspace for each object and select your desired CMYK values. If you do that and take the SVG file to Scribus, the CMYK values will be honored. Regarding the spot inks, as far as I can remember you can use the auto palette for adding swatches that work "globally" in the document, but since that's done by custom gradient definitios they don't survive the import to Scribus as spot inks. It's not really a problem, since the color of a spot ink is meaningless. The color of spot inks is just a visual aid for you to pick them, but the printer will produce a separate plate for them that has to be inked with the right color. So, don't worry about spots in inkscape then. Just use a regular RGB color and when you import the SVG to Scribus, go to the colors manager and turn that RGB swatch to a spot ink, using the name of the desired ink so it's reflected in the PDF output. The printer will know what to do with it. I run a small graphic design firm, and I send files to printshops almost daily. Personally, I don't even care about doing anything in CMYK in Inkscape. I do everything in RGB, and let Scribus to create the separations. Spot-only works are the exception, of course. But since printing 3 spots is usually as expensive as printing process, most of the jobs end up being just process, with a few exceptions. CMYK+Spots is not very common as one would expect, but it's not a problem if you use the intermediate binding process I just described. You do everything in RGB, and if something has to be printed in a special ink, you can mark the RGB swatch as spot in Scribus and it will take care of it. In my experience, properly color managed RGB > CMYK conversions are pretty reliable. Designers usually think that a special CMYK combination is a bullet-proof method to get exact colors, but that's not true: a certain CMYK combination is tied to a specific press setting (plate order, screen angle, stock type and quality, etc.) Gez.

I would really like to know how you can convert the colorspace of an svg file, I have exported a CMYK file exported from Illustrator but it has not retained its colourspace. Actually SVG does allow for proper CMYK, as does Inkscape. It is just that the export path we use (Cairo) does not support CMYK. CMYK in PDF from Inkscape

Hi all I have been using inkscape for a while now, my only problem has been a lack of native CMYK (and spot color) support for PDF's from Inkscape. I was wondering if there is way to get this piece of software (moonshiner.sourceforge.net) to work with Inkscape esp in the "Save as" pdf dialogue? I checked it with an old version of <adobe/> software I have and the resulting file is definitely in a CMYK color space.

I have a rectangular jpg photo that I want to reduce to an oval. This is easy in Scribus and not too hard in Gimp. Authoring a multipage document using Inkscape

Hi all, I have a 2 page document (an evaluation form), and because spacing was very important, I used Inkscape instead of LibreOffice, LyX, LaTeX, etc. This two page document must print on both sides of the paper, so I'd imagine it must end up as a PDF. http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape-pages/ seems to indicate that I can do this natively in Inkscape by installing a plugin. I'm a little worried ways that a plugin might affect my normal Inkscape usage. http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Multipage itself indicates that Inkscape itself doesn't implement multiple pages, because the current SVG spec doesn't support it. http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=519 reiterates that current Inkscape doesn't support multiple pages, and suggests I use two different Inkscape docs, and desktop publish them with Scribus. All I really need is a 2 page portrait letter-sized PDF, and I'll figure out how to print it duplexed. I have no problem with making two different Inkscape docs. I'm a little concerned about putting letter-sized SVG's into Scribus or LibreOffice or any other "container". Anyone have any ideas of the best way for me to make a 2 page PDF out of one or two Inkscape files? Hello, I compiled Inkscape on FreeBSD and I can't reproduce my problem there. So it seems to be in some code which only runs on Windows. Any hints? If a knot radius is in mode flexible (green knot): Store in the X value of the pathvector (int)index_of_pathvector +(decimal)0.-1 point at this curve. the next curve radius is calculated by the phisical distande in previous. If a knot radius is fixed (red knot): It still store the value in X but is stored in pixels -whith unit conversions- and with a negative value for easy check. text in export to pdf randomly garbled

Hello, I have a couple of technical drawings which I convert from Microstation (.dwg) format to SVG using some third party software and from SVG to PDF using Inkscape. The SVG contains the text on the drawing in correct form, but the PDF has text garbled. It is displayed ok, but the text selection for copy-pasting is corrupt. It is reproducable and the result is constant for every run. If I use the --export-latex option than the .tex file contains the text in correct form again. Is this a known issue? I cannot find it in the bug database. I'm running Inkscape 0.48.4 and also tried the latest development binaries from your site. I reproduced this on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise and Windows 7 Professional. Both 64 bits. I can provide a sample drawing, but need to anonymize it first. Regards, Ronald. -- Ronald Klop

I know I can create an svg web page via Inkscape. I can add url anchors to it. Settings on windows 8 - multicore support.

Hi, I'm using a the tool for a few days and it looks great. I have noticed from time to time it gets a bit slow. I googled and found it is possible to add multi - core support, at least on linux. The thing is I'm running windows 8 and I don't know if this is possible. In addition, there is no "%userprofile%\Application Data\Inkscape" in my windows. Does anyone know where the settings are stored? I'm using 0.48 version of inkscape. Thanks, Martin

Export to PNG behavior

Hi all, I've been working heavily with Inkscape these last couple of months, making technical illustrations that will be shown as a series of images. So I've been using the Export PNG Image dialog - a LOT. And it seems to have an odd behavior: the export area defaults to "Drawing" whenever something is selected, then un-selected. Is there any way to keep it in "page" mode so I can always export the same size of image based on the canvas size? Also, are others here affected by this? perhaps we could get the devs to change it.

Krzysztof Kosiński will work on implementing robust boolean and stroking operations for 2Geom. Tomasz Boczkowski will work on improving Inkscape's support for SVG paints.
