Every once in a while, I get a path that I can't change the node type on or that won't let me draw out both control handles with shift/click on the node. I can pull one handle out, but when I go to do a second handle, it just moves the node itself instead of drawing out the handle. I am running .46 on a Slackware 12.1 installation.

Export by ID plus xpath

I prepare a work around: 1) prepare a layer with all export areas 2) generate by xslt a bash script that export all object in my selected layer. Good Grief to Grids

Okay, I'm getting really cheesed with the grids on Inkscape. Why does the grid spacing adjust when I zoom? And, why is it not at least proportional to the page/objects I'm working on? TikZ/PGF exporter ready for testing

Dear Inkscape-users, For some time now I have been working on an Inkscape extension for exporting to TikZ/PGF format for use with (La)TeX: http://code.google.com/p/inkscape2tikz/ It is similar in nature to the pstricks exporter already available in Inkscape. One obvious difference is that it relies on the PGF macro package. Another difference is that the output is higher level and easier to modify. Text is exported as plain TikZ nodes There are still a few rough edges, but the exporter is already in a usable state. Python binding documentation for effects

Hello, afaics, python is the recommended language for writing one's own extensions and effects. http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/PythonEffectTutorial gives a nice little overview, and http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/PythonModules provides a little bit more information. My question is: Is there a more comprehensive documentation somewhere about the several modules, classes and their methods and attributes? How to set mm to px ratio

Hi, Is there a way to specify mm to px conversion when exporting svg using inkscape --export-png? The --export-dpi doesn't help because it's overwritten by --export-width. What I want is have one svg - map. The image will be exported for different zoom levels, so the pixel size of exported image will vary. But pixel width of roads should remain the same. In batik, I can specify road width in mm and then set different different mm to px ratio for each zoom level to get the same road width at all zoom levels. But I can't find such option in inkscape. Is there some way or workaround how to do this in inkscape? -- Jiri

how to save a new color into a swatch?

How do I add a color to the "Swatches" panel? I've tried dragging things in, right-clicking on all sorts of things, using the dropper, etc etc but it just doesn't want to happen! Surprising response to a bug

I've been using Inkscape for along time now - over 2 years - and all my schematic drawing are now in SVG form. I always work in landscape, using a template file with a standard frame etc. When I upgraded my distro to debian lenny, I noticed that it now carried Inkscape version 0.46. I didn't think a lot about it, although noticed there were oddities with the new way of setting out grids. This was a minor nuisance, but was quickly rectified, and the overall behaviour seemed improved. It was only recently when I tried to print out one of these files I realised there was a serious problem. Looking around the 'net I noticed that a lot of other people had the same issue (can't print landscape). However, when I went onto the bug tracker to see what was happening, I was quite astonished to see this had been assigned a low priority. I don't understand how a printing failure on a graphics package can be thought of as unimportant. The only practical workaround I can find is to save these as pdf then use evince to print them. I'm considering going back to v 0.45 but that will mean re-doing all the grid settings again. I fully support the work being done on inkscape and have been singing it's praises to anyone who'll listen, but I really hope this gets sorted out sooner rather than later. -- Will J Godfrey http://www.musically.me.uk

svn-19741 node tool crash

I just updated svn to 19741 and it has an odd crash situation - If I open a document or create new and add objects, I can manipulate the objects with either the select tool or the node tool with no problems. However, if I convert any object to a path and select the path with the node tool, Inkscape crashes as soon as I click on the path. I also tried drawing a rectangle, converting to a path and selecting with the select tool. Then I chose the node tool so that the path nodes are displayed and I tried rubberbanding 2 of the nodes. The moment I let go of the mouse button, Inkscape crashes. file format for printing

Hi, I apologize for asking what I'm sure is an incredibly basic question, but internet answers seem to be too technical for my understanding or non-existant. I don't know which file format I should use in order to send an inkscape generated document off for printing. The file that I'm working with is a fairly simple 8.5 x 11" document. In the past I'd saved a similar document as a pdf to send to the printers, but this time it doesn't seem to be appearing exactly as shown in my inkscape file. Do I need to download Cairo to fix this? I went to that site but felt fairly confused by the array of available options. Is pdf even the best option for printing? Could someone shed some light on this for me? Thanks so much. Julie

Inkscape stuff imported into blender (images)

This first thing involves taking a square in Inkscape and then using some text and the boolean functions to "cut" the text out of the square, i.e. to create a text shaped hole. This was then imported into Blender and a light with the halo option turned on was animated behind the object, pointed toward the camera. http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/4851/halotextvx4.gif This was done by using the gear script, then using various boolean operations to add the letters and the connections between the letters and the gears. The whole shebang was imported into Blender, the "gear train" was broken up into individual gears, extruded and animated (ambient occlusion used for the lighting.) http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/6058/ogregearsxz2.gif

Oh man. I figured it out once I examined the file you attached. I was mistakenly setting the fill and stroke to "none" with the 'X" button, not UNsetting them with the "?" button in the Fill&Stroke dialog. It works as advertised now. Silly mistake. Tiled Clones Trace Question

Hi, I'm playing around with the Trace option for tiled clones and I'm having a problem. I'm creating an 8x8 grid of tiled rectangles overtop of a bitmap (I tried this with a gradient filled rectangle underneath as well). Using the trace tab, i can get the clones to be output based on presence, opacity, and size, but I can't seem to get them to be created based on the underlying object's color as is described here: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Tiles-Trace.html I've made sure the base object has an unset fill (which the tooltip and article recommend) but I still can't recreate the example in Tavmjong's guide. Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong? RQ

Tiled Clones - Artifacts?

I'm trying to make some tiled clones of a bunch of squares with a patter inside. I'm getting some kind of line between the squares when I tile it. I tried adjusting down the exponent with no success. to adjust the default zoom level on the default document opened by inkscape? I've been playing with some settings in the default.svg file. I managed to get it to open a 500 x 500 px page with no boarder. I'd like to have the page zoomed to fit the screen. I see a setting of inkscape:zoom = "0.35" but that doesn't seem to work as adjust in the zoom level in inkscape has no effect on this value in the xml editor. Patterns. How?

Hello list! I write to you out of sheer ignorance. I generated a pattern with some paths and I'd like to use it as a sort of "texture" and apply it to another path... Is there an automated way of doing this, or should I group/join the paths and repeat them over the path I want to cover "ad nauseam"? I do believe there was a function in 0.46 (or was it since 0.45?) that helped doing that (or so I believe), but I don't seem to find said function. Thanks in advance for any tips!
