There is an option for this on the Advanced Search page (via the advanced link next to the search button.) There's several other useful search modifiers there. I like "sort by most recently changed" and "has patch attached". Okay. Then how to get these fonts into inkscape..? They must be bought somewhere and install..? Isn't there any font in inkscape that is present by default in pdf..? Pressure sensitivity using Tablet Laptop

Dear Group, I have installed the latest Inkscape (0.46) onto my tablet laptop "Lenovo X61 Tablet" under Vista SP1. I try to use the pressure sensitive features of the pen, but Inkscape does not show the tablet/pen under the external input devices (of course not, it is internal). Does anyone know a trick how I can trigger Inkscape to recognize the pressure sensitivity of the pen? (First I thought that the pen was not pressure sensitive, but using the M$ Office "Ink Annotations"-tool, it is). Thanks a lot for your help! Manuel

So I reinstalled inkscape and now have the 0.46 build April 8 2008 with Cairo. I did a save as pdf, I did not check the convert text to path checkbox, and the pdf file is still 1.5mb. The cairo PDF exporter in Inkscape 0.46 does not support creating PDF files that uses, but does not embed, the 14 standard PostScript fonts. Cairo subsets the fonts it embeds so the embedded fonts do not take up much space. The standard fonts feature has been deprecated since PDF 1.5 and it is now recommended that all fonts used in the PDF are embdeded. Saving as PDF creates a very large file

Hello, I have a brochure in an svg file. I tried to save it as PDF using inkscape 0.46 on Linux Kubuntu. But the PDF file size is in the megabytes... when my svg file is very small. How come it gets to big in PDF..? What can I do to have a normal size PDF file..? I cannot see these fonts in my inkscape. Times－Roman Helvetica Courier Symbol Times－Bold Helvetica－Bold Courier－Bold ZapfDingbats Times－Italic Helvetica-Oblique Courier－Oblique Times-BoldItalic Helvetica－BoldOblique Courier－BoldOblique There are lots of fonts but not these above. I have a standard install of inkscape and have not installed any additional font, I would not know how to do it anyway. So I changed the font of almost all my texts. But the size of the svg and the size of the pdf did not change at all. The two files are http://www.thalasoft.com/brochure_en_new_font.svg and http://www.thalasoft.com/brochure_en_new_font.pdf The pdf still does not display the text in the angled boxes. I have not changed the font in the angled boxes which is still Bitstream Vera Sans. Thanks for your support! So here is the results of my attempt at text to pathing... I ungrouped all texts and did a text to path action on each selected text. Afterwards I could not edit the texts anymore. I suppose this is normal as it was no text any longer but shapes. I also had three texts changing colors when doing the text to path, I don't know why. These were new colors. But I can't have them in my design. Prior to doing this text to pathing, I had saved my file under another name. The file size of the two files stayed the same and the text to pathing did not reduce the file size. Same for the pdf version that stayed in its large identical size. Sorry for being slow... First, I'm impressed of the help you guys provide! That is so cool! I didn't expect such a community... So I understand I need to convert the fonts to paths. I googled to find out how to do that but could not see much on how to go. I have several questions then... 1- How to do a font to path move..? Should I select the whole document and text to path its unique object, or should I degroup each text object and text to path them one by one..? 2- Can It reverse the font to path move..? 3- Can I still edit the text and change its font once I did the font to path move..? Little Hedley's adventures with clipping paths

I grabbed an SVG file from Wikipedia that showed the infamous CIE 1931 chromaticity horseshoe to modify for an article I was writing. When opened in Inkscape, instead of the horseshoe there was a rectangular pixmap with the outlines of the horseshoe embedded in it. Time for Mr Clipping Path to come to the rescue. Except there were some weird results when trying to use the diagram, now with the horseshoe clipped out of the background pixmap so that it appeared as it does in the Wikipedia article: * When imported into FrameMaker, the diagram appeared perfectly. (This is weird, because invariably FM introduces artefacts such as strange lines and white rectangles, requiring one to create a PDF of the SVG for import.) * When 'printed' to Adobe PDF, the resultant PDF file showed (a) a solid clipping outline as expected and (b) the actual colour horseshoe reduced in size and skewed to the right but still within the path, sort of like a jelly that has slumped on a hot summer's day. * When exported to PDF via Cairo, the clipping path had gone AWOL so that the PDF appeared as the SVG when I first opened it, a full rectangular pixmap. * When exported to EPS, the background pixmap also appeared unclipped as for the Cairo PDF. Is anyone else experiencing these kinds of problems with clipping paths? Should this be logged as a bug? Rolling OpenVG into Inkscape?

Hi all. As a programmer I was wondering, have any of Inkscape developers had looked into OpenVG? http://www.khronos.org/openvg/ For those of you who don't know about OpenVG, it can be summarized as an open cross platform C style API for drawing vector graphics, including but not limited to: Stroked paths with customizable stroke styling Filled paths with customizable colors, gradients, and patterns Images and image filters Pretty much the same thing Cairo does, but with (I believe) a greater potential for hardware acceleration. I read about people people riding OpenVG on top of OpenGL, and maybe someday hardware vendors might even put out an OpenVG enabled driver. One can hope. I'd really like have programming access to a hardware accelerated 2D vector API and wanted to meet up with others would are looking for the same.

Inkscape 0.46 Filter effects - Embossing

I have a project that I'm working on where I would like to apply an emboss style effect onto some text. Bear in mind that I am still learning how to use filters. There are many things to tweak to get an effect just so. My problem is that when I add this effect I get a lighter shaded rectangle applied as well. Does anyone know how to get rid of this artifact. I have attached an svg and a png for dissection if anyone is interesting in looking at it. The majority of the effect settings came from a wiki that I was reading somewhere but I'm unable to find it now. heathenx

0.46 on MacOS.X(Leopard) in Japanese

I'm using Inkscape 0.46 on Leopard in Japanese. But, original dmg package shows English in UI. And User fonts wasn't shown in fonts list. So, I modified following 2 files for Japanese. /Applications/Inkscape.app/Contents/Resources/bin/inkscape /Applications/Inkscape.app/Contents/Resources/etc/fonts/fonts.conf file named "inkscape" had change as following. 1. Comment out form 60 to 62 by using '#'. 2. Add line 63 [export LANG="`defaults read .GlobalPreferences AppleLocale`.UT F-8"] because, original command works as [export LANG=sjis.UTF-8] and gets no result . file named "fonts.conf" had change as following. 1. Add [<dir>~/Library/Fonts</dir>] in 'Font directory list' section. Then, Inkscape 0.46 works great! But, I'm not expert for this kind things. Please, let me know, if there are some other better way. Dear All, Just wondering whether anyone knows how is the autopackage for 0.46 doing? I actually tried to compile it, but there are so many libraries needed, I added like half of them, but its wicked tough to straighten it out. Some libraries it doesnt see. Anyways. The 0.45 autopackage was awesome. I am running ubuntu and both installation and removal were a breeze. Thank you for input, Andrew

Windows: printing using the command line

Hi, I tried everything to print a svg using the command line in windows. I am getting nowhere. I use inkscapec.exe to get the output/error message, but it doesn't help. "lpr" not recognized, no way to get it done. All I tried failed. Is it possible? And if yes, how? What is the correct syntax? According to http://inkscape.modevia.com/inkscape-man.html#examples The Syntax is: inkscape filename.svg -p '| lpr' I am getting: C:\Programme\Inkscape>inkscapec d:\example.svg -p '| lpr' Der Befehl "lpr'" ist entweder falsch geschrieben oder konnte nicht gefunden werden. Meaning that lpr is not recognized. So I tried the printer name (with and without quotes): C:\Programme\Inkscape>inkscapec d:\example.svg -p '| "Brother MFC-9420CN BR-Script3"' Der Befehl ""Brother MFC-9420CN BR-Script3"'" ist entweder falsch geschrieben oder konnte nicht gefunden werden. Meaning it believes that the printer name was a command. I tied it without the '' and without the pipe, I specified printer, rpr, I tried everything I can think of. Is it possible to do it? After 12 hrs of searching and trying using both inkscape and inkscapec, I need your help. As the files are to be created under windows, the batch that prints should work under windows also, so setting up a linux vm is not an option. Thank you for your help. Hauke

Change stroke color with a simple click

I wonder if it is possible to change the behavior of the color palette as to change the stroke color (as opposed to the fill color) with a simple click. I mainly write text+outlines, using the freehand tool and a wacom tablet and occasionally have to switch colors. It's inconvienent to reach for the keyboard and press SHIFT+Color click to do this, especially because my wacom's extra keys are bound to more important stuff than shift. I hope this isn't a FAQ, but I didn't find it in there. And, if it's possible by editing some source code I'm willing to do so, but need a pointer. Greetings, Lorenz Köhl

Select + move

Hi, Inkscape is really a great piece of software. There's a "feature" that is quite irritating though. When I select an object, if it happens that there are other objects above or below, if I click & drag to move the selected object, then sometimes another object is selected and dragged (and sometimes not)... That's really annoying... Is there a way to force inkscape to understand that the object I want to move is the object that is currently selected and not anything else? Thanks a lot for any help! 0.46 feedback: Blur and performance

I really like a lot of the changes I see in 0.46, like dialogs opening to the right instead of floating. And is the layers dialog new? If not I must have over looked it. I definitely like the new tweak brush. But here is something that is really bugging me. In part I just made a stupid mistake, but also this is a really stupid behavior in inkscape. I spent the last hour working on a drawing (and here is the really stupid part for me) without saving. Then I turned up the blur a little. Well, I meant to turn it up a little. But I twitched, and apparently turned it up a lot. And now I see three things I would really like. First, inkscape is pegging one of my CPUs (core 2 duo, 2 gigs of ram). And it has been pegging this CPU for more then 10 minutes now. Meanwhile, the display isn't updating at all. Not just the canvas, but the dialogs, the drawing tools, the menus, none of them are redrawing. Third, there doesn't seem to be anyway to cancel the operation without quitting (which I obviously don't want to do because I stupidly didn't save). Actually, in another instance of inkscape, I see that the blur slider only goes to a hundred, and at 100 it is perfectly snappy with two strokes. The drawing that is pegging the machine only has a few dozen strokes, so it seems that complexity here is rather non-linear. So, here are somethings I think should be added: First, perhaps it would be possible for Inkscape to auto-save to /tmp or someplace when the user hasn't explicitely saved anywhere yet. Second, perhaps there should be some bound for render time. Third, the rest of the GUI should at least redraw, even if the canvas doesn't, and it should at least respond to some commands. Undo or save would be commands I might consider trying to execute during a long render. Fourth, would it be possible to thread this? Perhaps one thread for the GUI and one for rendering as a starting point? It would be great to thread rendering, but I can see how that wouldn't be so straight forward. Fifth, is there any chance of using something to accelerate certain drawing operations, like blurs? Possibly with C code (which could then have a generic version and compile time select between that or a SSE version or an Altivec version)? Or something like Pyscho, pyrex, or pypy? Sixth, this is probably more of a personal taste request, but perhaps the blur slider could be logarithmic? Creatively, the difference between 60 and 62 is pretty small, but the differences at the low end are big.

dashed line type printing problem

Hi, Anyone know what I'm running into here and, ideally, what a good workaround might be (that lets me use vector printing to pdf)? I make a new document, draw a zig-zag with the line tool, set the line type to dashed and turn the thickness up a bit, then I draw a shaded circle, and, although it looks fine on the screen, the segments of the zig-zag line have "grown" in the print preview (or even when I actually print...which is how I found it) such that a "V" shape becomes a backward "Y" where the left line of the "V" extends to the lower page bound and the right line of the "V" extends to the top page bound. If I delete the circle or switch from vector to raster on the rendering tab of the print dialog, the printing issue goes away. This is with 0.46 on ubuntu gutsy. Type1 Fonts on Windows XP

How do I configure Inkscape for Windows to see the Type1 fonts I have installed? The GIMP sees them fine (which also uses freetype), as does OpenOffice.org. The font names and corresponding pfb file names even show up in my .fonts.cache-1 file but I still can't see them in Inkscape. Thanks for any answers.
