only 1 filter possible when grouped?

When you group several items, Can you do only 1 filter? I tried it, and I can only do 1, until I ungroup the items.. then I can apply several filters to it. (I have 25 squares, and wanted Button and Bloom) All selected then it works, but if I am grouping them first, then I can only apply 1, and I don't see The effect of the other ones. Is there a way to do it, without having it ungrouped ? Thank you

Turning a clone into a regular object?

Is there a way to turn a cloned object back into a regular individual object? I've got a set of symbols that I've copied, duplicated, cloned, copied to new documents, moved to other new documents, etc etc so many times I've got no idea what the "original" would be. If I use Shift+D to "discover original" in all of the several documents I'm currently working in, all I get is "original is in defs and NOT VISIBLE" - and if I try to copy one of these symbols from that document to a new one the cloned parts straight up won't cut and paste over to the new Inkscape doc. I could redraw these symbols, they're not all that complex, but I'd really rather not have to. Is there a way to turn a clone object into a freestanding regular object? Thanks, Brian

new feature worth requesting - Find/Dropper/Selection ?

Hi Friends, Do you think it would be possible, for a new feature, to be able to use the Dropper tool to identify what one wants to search for, using the Find dialog? So for example. I want to find everything with a green fill #00ff00ff using the Find dialog. Would it be possible, with Find dialog open, to click on something with that green fill, with the Dropper, and have the proper info entered into the Find dialog? Or maybe instead of Dropper, use the Selection tool, since it can already identify everything? Just select one of whatever you want to find all of....and maybe context menu > Find, or a key shortcut, and all the proper info is entered into the Find dialog. Or maybe there's a button in the Find dialog, "take from selection"? Or something like that? Maybe this is "mission impossible" but I guess it can't hurt to ask :-) (....much!) This would just make finding things a little easier, because I can never remember, from one time to the next, exactly what I need to enter in the Find dialog. And I have to look up the manual every time. And because I don't know much about SVG/XML, there's often a lot of trial an error, figuring out exactly what to enter. (Now and then, I can't figure it out at all, and have to just give up.) So it would be nice not to have to know or understand those technical details. Just select one of whatever you want to find, and it's automatically entered. Thanks for comments, brynn

View > Page Grid 0.91

Hi Friends, Nothing serious, mostly just curious. But possibly a bug? When I open a new blank document, and decide I want to display a grid (rectangular, haven't tested axonomic/isometric), and I click the View menu, it shows a checkmark beside the Page Grid option, even though I haven't yet displayed it. Once I display the grid, the checkmark remains beside the Page Grid option, and when I click to....un-view the grid, (not sure if unchecking Page Grid option is the same thing as "hiding" the grid) the checkmark disappears, as expected. And after that, it works as expected. It's just curious to me, why it originally shows the checkmark, on a new blank document with no grid showing. I found this bug report which might either be the same thing I'm reporting, or related. https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1318318 I'm not sure about such technical details. So is this issue the same bug, or a new bug, or not a bug at all? If not, can someone explain? If it's a new bug, should I report, or should a developer report? Thanks for your help :-) brynn

Automatically adding xlink refs based on text in the .svg file

I've been trying to do this for a while now, and I hoped that it'd be possible with the inkscape command line, but I'm new to this, so I can't see how. I've got a .svg file that's from the OpenGroup's Archi application. It's got boxes and links with names. What I'd like to do is make the names clickable. So, for example, the box: ---------------------- | | | my_label | | | ---------------------- Would be clickable, as a box, and go to: http://mywebsite.com/my_label This will work because I'm using a wiki, so the 'my_label' will become a page on the wiki. nvm. Figured it out last night.. need to make a new default.svg and added some new svg files in the folder with sizes. Hi, I am new to Inkscape, and following some nice tutorials on the web.. I am trying to so something basic (I think) and i can't figure out how to do it. What I want is a square, and want it all merged as 1 image and have the inside cut out / transparant. Here is an example: https://www.dropbox.com/s/icabyjmvrs0nv06/example.png?dl=0 I want to make all the seperate parts all into 1 images, and the black part I want that to be transparant. Hi All. We have submitted requests for bringing out localized Inkscape for Indian languages through various bugs filed. List of all such bugs filed can be looked at https://bugs.launchpad.net/~cpdhutadmal. We have also submitted translations for those languages. Would like to know from the community if we have considered making builds for Indic languages. If so, when are we going to do it. If not, can we have a discussions surrounding the topic ? Removing "intersection"box from cursor.

Symbols functionality in 0.91

Hi! Seems I'm lacking the editing functionality for symbols in 0.91 (windows 64 bit) According to: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/SymbolsDialog , there should be a menu item object => symbol to group and object -> group to symbol....... Was it left out in 0.91, or is it hiding in the menus somewhere , have you found it ?? Regards Kjell L.

Let me make clearer how I reproduce this. This is one repeatable method: 1) Launch Inkscape 0.91 to a blank page. 2) Open a drawing I had already created. 3) Paste an image onto the page. building a team of Inkscape forum representatives

Hi Friends, I want to create a small team made up of representatives from all the Inkscape forums which are listed on the Community page of the website. (https://inkscape.org/en/community/) This could be useful for making certain announcements to a broader community of Inkscape users, only a fraction of which are even aware of the mailing lists. For example, it would be nice to have a message posted in all the forums, linking to the recent news items about the need for donations for Hackfest. (https://inkscape.org/en/news/2015/02/11/inkscape-developers-need-your-help/). For another example, to announce a world-wide drawing competition, perhaps such as the About Screen contest, or others which may be created in the future. In the past, since I only understand English, I've run into problems trying to figure out who the admins are, for the non-English forums, and problems communicating, even if I can identify the admins. But that was before I joined this user list. And so now, maybe I can reach out on this mailing list, and begin to build this team. It would involve very little efforts or time/energy, on the part of these volunteers. Such representatives would receive very occasional emails from me, with the links and info that needs to be posted. We just need 1 person from each of the forums listed below, who would be willing to receive these email messages, and post the info in new topics on the appropriate board of their forum. It doesn't have to be the admin of the forum (but it could be). Any registered member who is allowed to post messages could do the job. Version 0.91 Frequent crashes

Hi folks, I wonder if anyone else is seeing frequent crashes with this new version? I don't see any remarks to this effect in this forum and a quick look at the Inkscape Launchpad doesn't reveal anything to me. I'm running Inkscape 0.91 r13725 on Windows x64 and when I paste an image into an Inkscape page, the application crashes. Every time. I plan to uninstall and reinstall. Maybe try the win32 version of the application. If nothing helps, I'll go back to the prior release which was rock stable for me. Cheers, Steve

Asset creation for SCALE 13x conference

Hi, Inkscape will once again have a booth at the SCALE 13x conference this year ( http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/13x ). To help with our presence, and to highlight the new release, we are producing some assets for the booth. We will be getting a large two-sided banner that will also be usable for future conferences Inkscape might have a presence at. And for giving away at the booth we will be getting some mini-business cards and stickers. The latter two will be done through moo.com. If anyone would like to lend a hand with suggesting or creating graphics for these pleas let me know. We might have a line on designs for the banners and mini cards, but much will depend on the availability of different individuals. The stickers will be a run of 180 total, but we can have many designs up to each sticker being different. As far as timing goes, it would be good for me to get the cards and stickers ordered ASAP to ensure delivery for the opening of the conference. Reducing SVG filesizes --- auto-identify clones?

Anyone remember Aldus Intellidraw? Anyway, I'm working on re-drawing the diagrams for the Shapeoko (an opensource CNC mill/router/lasercutter/3D printer kit) so as to improve the appearance and reduce the filesizes. Files were really bloated by having been exported as .pdfs from Autodesk Inventor (or some other commercial 3D design tool) and being comprised of lots of short little paths: http://docs.shapeoko.com/content/tPictures/PS20022-100.svg Re-drawing the files results in a greatly reduced filesize and (I think) a nicer appearance: http://docs.shapeoko.com/content/tPictures/PS20029-100.svg (replacing a single M5 nut w/ the hand-drawn version lowers the filesize by ~100KB --- other parts yield similar savings, while bolts are several times that) This still leaves a lot of instances of identical parts being used multiple times --- is there a way to have the program automatically identify identical objects and set them to be clones? I've looked, but can't find anything --- (if memory serves) this was a nifty feature of Aldus Intellidraw, and one which I missed. I looked, but couldn't find one (and of course, it's hard to search for). I work w/ a couple of diagrams for the Shapeoko 2 on github --- is there a plug-in for Inkscape similar to: https://github.com/almonk/sketchgit for Sketch? Even cooler would be one which would allow automatic opening / uploading of images to a Mediawiki site (finally managed to get SVG support enabled for the Shapeoko wiki). Thanks Shlomi Fish and Alex Valavanis! Alex: Tutorial on the wiki? I didn't know there was any such. Where is it? Maybe it's what I've been looking for. Are you suggesting I could use the Extension Subsystem section by itself, as a guide? I don't think I have the proper software to extract that section (copy it) and make it into a stand-alone PDF. Maybe would be simpler to delete everything else, but I don't think I have the tools. (I only have Adobe Reader) I'm also not sure if a multi-page PDF can be uploaded to InkSpace..... This yearly event is an occasion for teams and individual contributors/artists involved in Libre Graphics to work together, to share experiences and to hear about new ideas. By Libre Graphics we mean Free, Libre and Open Source tools for design, illustration, photography, typography, art, graphics, page layout, publishing, cartography, animation, video, interactive media, generative graphics and visual live-coding. The Libre Graphics Meeting is not just about software, but extends to standards, file formats and actual use of these in creative work. We are looking for: * In-depth presentations of Libre Graphics code-contributions * Showcases of excellent work made using Libre Graphics tools * New and experimental projects in this area to meet the wider community * Reports, use-cases, best practices * Talks that show the accomplishments and strides that Libre Graphics has made in its first decade and what it can do next Available formats (times include Q&A): * Lightning talk (7 minutes, selected at the event unconference style) * Presentations (20 minutes) * Entry for State of the Libre Graphics Union (1-2 slides) * Workshops (1 or 2 hours)* * Birds Of a Feather (BOF), discussion meetings or Hackathons (2 hrs or more) *State of the Libre Graphics Union* We will kick off the event with a joint session that sums up all things that have happened in our wide landscape over the last year. Instead of slots in the schedule for general updates on each and every Libre Graphics project, we invite you to submit a maximum of two slides, showcasing new abilities and/or text enumerating the leaps forward that your project made. *Special focus: Beyond The First Decade* Because 2015 marks the tenth edition of LGM, the focus this year is on the past and future of Libre Graphics. We have a special interest this year in projects that show where Libre Graphics has been, what distances it has travelled, and where it might go in the next ten years. We welcome submissions representing the broad ecology of Libre Graphics, from full-fledged software packages, to artist-built scripts, to art and publications, and even the cultural touchstones and issues present in Libre Graphics communities. how to write Inkscape extensions - guide needed

Hi Friends, I think I asked this before, but it was mixed up with another subject. And there seems to be a bit of a lull in the action, on the dev mailing list. So I thought it would be a good time to try again, when this is the only subject. In forums, probably 3 to 5 times in a year, people post a message asking either how to write an extension for Inkscape, or about some technical aspect of writing an extension. Or another version is - how to get an extension they wrote to be packed with Inkscape. Unfortunately, most of us don't have a clue about any of it, and there is no place to refer them. Now I'm working on fleshing out the Contribute page of the website, and it would be really nice to be able to provide a link to some kind of guide, or instructions, or article on the subject. It doesn't necessarily need to be a newbie's guide; so it wouldn't be teaching someone like me to write an extension. It would be addressed towards people who already have the needed skills and experience. So if anyone is interested, it would really be a great benefit to the Inkscape community, to have some information, in any kind of format, on how to write an Inkscape extension. It could be placed on the Inkscape wiki, or maybe even in your InkSpace (the gallery on the website) in Tutorials category. Thanks in advance, and thanks for listening.
