new interface of Artemio.net: powered by Inkscape
by Artemio
Hello, Inkscapers!
Yesterday, I re-drawn the interface of Artemio.net completely from scratch
using Inkscape. Thanks to the new rectangle tool, it simply was a snap! I
just can't believe I could do all the work in minutes.
Here is a short article about the new look:
http://artemio.net/?p=event&e=2004-06-12
By the way, for Bryce and others: I can send you new screenshots of the
development process, and expand my creation article so you can post these
instead of the old Arteimio.net design examples.
Inkscape is truly amazing. Thank you all, thank you so much!
Yours,
Artemio.

where is GDK_WINDOW_TYPE_HINT_UTILITY ?
by Florent
Hi all,
I try to compile the CVS version 20040610 (certainly I'm late)
No problem during the './configure'
but, at the 'make' :
[...]
dialogs/dialog-events.cpp: In function `void sp_transientize(GtkWidget*)':
dialogs/dialog-events.cpp:153: `GDK_WINDOW_TYPE_HINT_UTILITY' undeclared
(first
use this function)
dialogs/dialog-events.cpp:153: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only
once for each function it appears in.)
dialogs/dialog-events.cpp:157: `gtk_window_set_skip_taskbar_hint' undeclared
(first use this function)
make[2]: *** [dialogs/dialog-events.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/florent/Sources/inkscape-20040610/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/florent/Sources/inkscape-20040610'
make: *** [all] Error 2
In my '/usr/local/include' (Linux Slackware), there's 'gtk-2.0/' ,
'gtkmm-2.0/' , 'sigc++-1.2/'
must I install another library ?

that's what is now used in CVS

that is still possible in CVS, just type in a value from 0 to 1 exclusive
(e.g. 0.5) and press Enter, it will be converted to e.g. 128. So this only
works for input, but I don't think it's really needed for output.

"Sensitive" checkbox in Object properties

Done in CVS
Thanks for your feedback.

[Clipart] ANNOUNCE: First official release of Open Clip Art Library (fwd)
by Bryce Harrington

Subject: [Clipart] ANNOUNCE: First official release of Open Clip Art Library
The first official release package of the Open Clip Art Library is now
available in the download section of the website:
http://www.openclipart.org/downloads/ openclipart-0.03.tgz
This is the "Father's Day, 2004" release. There aren't really any
Father's Day type images, though; they're actually all UK road signs.
;-)
Nineteen items passed a validation against the OCAL File Guidelines, and
these are included in this release. The items that failed were missing
RDF metadata sections and did not indicate title, author, and license.
A listing of files scanned and a log of the testing results is included
for review.
A Makefile is included for installation on *nix platforms via the
command `make install` as root. `make uninstall` also works. On
Windows, users will need to manually install to their preferred
directory.
While not many items are included in this release, the focus has been to
find and establish a process for accepting, checking, and packaging the
files. With these in place, future releases will be quicker and easier
to put out. :-)

Some questions....
by Florent
Hi,
In first, thank you for Inkscape and for all your work.
I think that you are habit to hear congratulations, so :
here are some questions and some suggestions....
Is there a way , in the "Fill & Stroke" display, to set the unit of the
color ?
(for example : #00 to #FF, 0 TO 255, or 0% TO 100%)
I don't see options about 'lock an object', is it possible ?
I think that it could be more convenient, when the user open a svg file
via the main window, and when this window is "not in use", to open this
file in the main window
And sorry for my language which I feel very brief, but I'm not really a
master with regard to the english language :-/ ... I beg your pardon
for that.

Inkscape object opacity
by Adam Pearson
Hi all
Bear with me if these are dopey questions:
Objects appear to have a default opacity (0.75 from the XML editor?) but the
item properties dialog box says opacity = 1. So:
What is the default opacity and how does one adjust the default?
Why do objects that I edit in the XML editor to opacity = 1 still appear on
screen as having an opacity?
Regards from a puzzled Adam

It's two different opacities. 0.75 is the fill opacity, it's set in the Fill
& Stroke dialog, Fill tab, it only affects fill. The Object Properties lets
you set an overall opacity of the entire object (both fill and stroke). The
two opacity settings are independent.
