Well, there's a standard SVG/XML term for it: "root". I think we're better off using standard terminology for things rather than making up our own. Given the widespread use of XML, I'm sure there is a standard translation for it in most languages too. -mental

inkview / inkscape -s keep crashing

Hi! I'm experiencing reproducible crashes of both inkview and "inkscape -s" when going forth and back in a number of files. "top" output shows that the process is eating more and more memory (also when displaying files that have been displayed before!); finally it crashes. This is Inkscape 0.41 on NetBSD 2.0/i386. Is this a known bug? I was unable to find it in the sf.net bug tracker. Cheers, Christoph

Cutting traced lineart (cartoon) into smaller path groups?

I have imported and traced a favorite Dilbert cartoon with inscape-CVS (as of today). The source image was of marginal quality, so the lines need quite a lot of cleanup. It shouldn't be too hard to adjust, and the result will be well worth the effort. The cartoon strip has three square panels. With each panel there are elements such as characters, desks, etc. I removed any shading from the source bitmap, so its just line art. - How do I break the monolithic traced path into separate objects for each square panel? - Within each panel, how do I snip and cut each character/prop element to be on its own path? Both of these operations figuratively involve defining a few construction lines and saying 'cut here'. Is there a literal way to use this concept with the cut, union and difference tools? Thanks, I think once I have the elements separated, my existing experience with inkscape will be sufficient to finish.

Inkscape-0.41 develops make errors

Hi all I'm trying to compile and install Inkscape-0.41 from source on Linux. Quick question about multiline...

Hey all... So, I think that I have some of the basics for flow charting down. I have one decided not to use the flow text as it seemed too difficult to work with right now. I am currently using a combination of a text object and a shape from the openclipart program to make my shapes. Now I have run into the case where I can not seem to get a carriage return in my text box's. I have included the file, since XML is nice and small, so that you may see what I mean. Several of my decision points could be expanded into two lines. I do not want to have to make generic decision points for single and two line entities. Can anybody give me a little assistance here or have I explained this in such a perverse way that I have confused everybody? Justace

*PLEASE FORWARD AND POST LIBERALLY* June 10, 2005 UTC — Release 0.14 of the Open Clip Art Library (www.openclipart.org) is now available for download on-line as an individual package consisting of 3415 images submitted by over 200 artists from around the globe. The project has progressed much this month on the future core of the Open Clip Art Library, the Document Management System (DMS) and more infrastructure has been implemented for the website due to user-demand. In addition to the aggregration of developer blogs at Planet OpenClipArt (http://planet.openclipart.org/), the project is now using the freedesktop.org provided bugzilla bug tracker (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/buglist.cgi?product=openclipart.org) to focalize feature requests and bug reports related to clip art, dms, the website, and other concerns. And, in response to people having difficulty contacting developers, there is now a contact form on the main project page. With regards to the Open Clip Art Library's growing release size, there is now an SVG-only package. And, for all those Windows users out there, the project is now providing a Windows installer that supports 40 languages and allows users to install and uninstall versions of the library package safely and securely. Now is the time to contribute artwork to the library and help develop the infrastructure which allows for easy clip art distribution. All summer the project is looking for summer themed artwork. What a great time to get out of the heat and lend a hand to the ongoing development for the project. Or, go outside and get some inspiration for making some artwork for submission. Examples For Presentation on Inkscape

Inkscape Artists, I'm giving a presentation on Inkscape at my local LUG on the 21st, and I need some really outstanding examples of work done in Inkscape so I can really wow them. I've looked at the Wiki page and will be linking to some of the work I found there, but I really need some more examples I can actually put in my OOo Impress presentation, which will subsequently be published on the LUG's web site. I'm interested in receiving examples of your best work of any variety, short bio information (with hyperlink, if applicable), and copyright licensing details, so that I can use them as I've described. Please send to examples@...518... . Also, I would sincerely appreciate an SVG drawing of the Bezier curve mathematical formula. It's for use in the same, but may have other applications as well.
