parameter UI for import filter Extension
by Simon Mieth
Hi,
I'm building an import filter extension for inkscape
which needs some data for the import process. The wiki
describes howto to write an INX file.
There is a description how to define parameters for a
UI dialog. Is this feature only supported for effects?
I tried the following example, but nothing happens.
<inkscape-extension>
<_name>My Import filter</_name>

<dependency
type="extension">org.inkscape.input.svg</dependency>

Modelspace

Modelspace-Limits

Paperspace

Paperspace-Limits

<extension>.foo</extension>
<mimetype>image/x-svgz</mimetype>
<_filetypename> foo</_filetypename>
<_filetypetooltip>Import foo</_filetypetooltip>
<output_extension>org.inkscape.output.svg</output_extension>

</inkscape-extension>
Best Regards and many thanks,

0.46, 0.45 startup problems on Leopard
by Stuart Edwards
I'm experiencing the 'X11 doesn't start' problem noted in some
previous posts, but I don't see a clear resolution. Basically, 0.46
(0.45 dev mac osx binary) doesn't start at all, and 0.45 requires X11
to be open already otherwise it asks for X11 to be installed. Anyway

Try to activate Inkscape and X11 several times - same results.
Inkscape did actually fire up a couple of days ago, but seemed to
freeze a lot on file management tasks.
Unfortunately I can't recreate that today.
Go back to 0.45
Activate Inkscape (X11 is open)
Inkscape window opens
I usually have to have X11 open in order for Inkscape to find it --
been using it this way most of the time. 'Failed to start X11' screen

0.46!?!? That's so old.
Perhaps we could encourage students to take on refactoring tasks as
projects. I really can't see the wisdom in making artificial
restrictions. Decisions on a case by case basis seems best. That said,
the refactoring that needs to be done is very important for moving
forward. And it is best to make it a priority.

Hi Mark,
I have noticed the same problem. While I do not know of any fix from
Inkscape's side, I managed a quick workaround. You can export an *.svg file
to *.eps using the command line interface. Let's say the name of the file is
somefile.svg and you want to export it as anyfilename.eps. Simply do:
inkscape -E anyfilename.eps somefile.svg. This worked for me.

Re: [Inkscape-user] Can of Soup Tutorial
by Nikki Bennetts
No, I used the ellipse/circle tool and followed the instructions step by step (starting at the upper left corner and draging to the lower right corner within the ststed pixel range) . I've even tried doing the step using a circle and the nodes are still off. I've attached a screen capture for you to see.

I just tested the latest version of Inkscape and the nodes appear
correct if you draw an ellipse directly with the Ellipse tool and then
convert the ellipse to a path.
How did you draw your ellipse? My guess is that you drew a circle,
rotated it, and then squeezed it. This is the only way that I can think
of to get the nodes at other than 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. Rotating the
circle will rotate the ellipse handles to a different orientation.

Kidscape (suggestion)
by Zelus et Radix
Greetings
Among all the good things I found in Inkscape one is that it's very easy to
use. But more important it looks easy, so even my 12 years brother took a
chance to try drawing vec toons on it with some amount of success (he never
did with Corel). This leaded me to think that an Inkscape version for kids
(5+) would be a great project. Some changes would be neccessary, such as
changing the GUI to make it more more children-friendly (vector eds, like
most apps, usually resemble ATMs) by fitting children's tastes, you know,
and also removing most complicated features and options. Now, why taking the
task?
1) Inkscape would be the first vec ed doing it AFAIK
2) Coming generations would probably try it prior to any other vec ed, thus
getting more familiar with it, thus spreading Inkscape
3) It could give Inkscape very good advertising and lots of great chances
4) It would be a great service
I translate for some kid orgs so I know where this project could find
audience and fit nicely. It's I pity I can't work on it because I have
little or no skills on coding and alike stuff at all.
It's just a suggestion for all of us to discuss, and perhaps dragging me
back to Earth - Come if you dare ;-)
God bless you all
