0.46 on MacOS.X(Leopard) in Japanese

I'm using Inkscape 0.46 on Leopard in Japanese. But, original dmg package shows English in UI. And User fonts wasn't shown in fonts list. So, I modified following 2 files for Japanese. /Applications/Inkscape.app/Contents/Resources/bin/inkscape /Applications/Inkscape.app/Contents/Resources/etc/fonts/fonts.conf file named "inkscape" had change as following. 1. Comment out form 60 to 62 by using '#'. 2. Add line 63 [export LANG="`defaults read .GlobalPreferences AppleLocale`.UT F-8"] because, original command works as [export LANG=sjis.UTF-8] and gets no result . file named "fonts.conf" had change as following. 1. Add [<dir>~/Library/Fonts</dir>] in 'Font directory list' section. Then, Inkscape 0.46 works great! But, I'm not expert for this kind things. Please, let me know, if there are some other better way. 0.46 autopackage

Dear All, Just wondering whether anyone knows how is the autopackage for 0.46 doing? I actually tried to compile it, but there are so many libraries needed, I added like half of them, but its wicked tough to straighten it out. Some libraries it doesnt see. Anyways. The 0.45 autopackage was awesome. I am running ubuntu and both installation and removal were a breeze. Thank you for input, Andrew

Windows: printing using the command line

Hi, I tried everything to print a svg using the command line in windows. I am getting nowhere. I use inkscapec.exe to get the output/error message, but it doesn't help. "lpr" not recognized, no way to get it done. All I tried failed. Is it possible? And if yes, how? What is the correct syntax? According to http://inkscape.modevia.com/inkscape-man.html#examples The Syntax is: inkscape filename.svg -p '| lpr' I am getting: C:\Programme\Inkscape>inkscapec d:\example.svg -p '| lpr' Der Befehl "lpr'" ist entweder falsch geschrieben oder konnte nicht gefunden werden. Meaning that lpr is not recognized. So I tried the printer name (with and without quotes): C:\Programme\Inkscape>inkscapec d:\example.svg -p '| "Brother MFC-9420CN BR-Script3"' Der Befehl ""Brother MFC-9420CN BR-Script3"'" ist entweder falsch geschrieben oder konnte nicht gefunden werden. Meaning it believes that the printer name was a command. I tied it without the '' and without the pipe, I specified printer, rpr, I tried everything I can think of. Is it possible to do it? After 12 hrs of searching and trying using both inkscape and inkscapec, I need your help. As the files are to be created under windows, the batch that prints should work under windows also, so setting up a linux vm is not an option. Thank you for your help. Hauke

Change stroke color with a simple click

I wonder if it is possible to change the behavior of the color palette as to change the stroke color (as opposed to the fill color) with a simple click. I mainly write text+outlines, using the freehand tool and a wacom tablet and occasionally have to switch colors. It's inconvienent to reach for the keyboard and press SHIFT+Color click to do this, especially because my wacom's extra keys are bound to more important stuff than shift. I hope this isn't a FAQ, but I didn't find it in there. And, if it's possible by editing some source code I'm willing to do so, but need a pointer. Greetings, Lorenz Köhl

Select + move

Hi, Inkscape is really a great piece of software. There's a "feature" that is quite irritating though. When I select an object, if it happens that there are other objects above or below, if I click & drag to move the selected object, then sometimes another object is selected and dragged (and sometimes not)... That's really annoying... Is there a way to force inkscape to understand that the object I want to move is the object that is currently selected and not anything else? Thanks a lot for any help! 0.46 feedback: Blur and performance

I really like a lot of the changes I see in 0.46, like dialogs opening to the right instead of floating. And is the layers dialog new? If not I must have over looked it. I definitely like the new tweak brush. But here is something that is really bugging me. In part I just made a stupid mistake, but also this is a really stupid behavior in inkscape. I spent the last hour working on a drawing (and here is the really stupid part for me) without saving. Then I turned up the blur a little. Well, I meant to turn it up a little. But I twitched, and apparently turned it up a lot. And now I see three things I would really like. First, inkscape is pegging one of my CPUs (core 2 duo, 2 gigs of ram). And it has been pegging this CPU for more then 10 minutes now. Meanwhile, the display isn't updating at all. Not just the canvas, but the dialogs, the drawing tools, the menus, none of them are redrawing. Third, there doesn't seem to be anyway to cancel the operation without quitting (which I obviously don't want to do because I stupidly didn't save). Actually, in another instance of inkscape, I see that the blur slider only goes to a hundred, and at 100 it is perfectly snappy with two strokes. The drawing that is pegging the machine only has a few dozen strokes, so it seems that complexity here is rather non-linear. So, here are somethings I think should be added: First, perhaps it would be possible for Inkscape to auto-save to /tmp or someplace when the user hasn't explicitely saved anywhere yet. Second, perhaps there should be some bound for render time. Third, the rest of the GUI should at least redraw, even if the canvas doesn't, and it should at least respond to some commands. Undo or save would be commands I might consider trying to execute during a long render. Fourth, would it be possible to thread this? Perhaps one thread for the GUI and one for rendering as a starting point? It would be great to thread rendering, but I can see how that wouldn't be so straight forward. Fifth, is there any chance of using something to accelerate certain drawing operations, like blurs? Possibly with C code (which could then have a generic version and compile time select between that or a SSE version or an Altivec version)? Or something like Pyscho, pyrex, or pypy? Sixth, this is probably more of a personal taste request, but perhaps the blur slider could be logarithmic? Creatively, the difference between 60 and 62 is pretty small, but the differences at the low end are big.

dashed line type printing problem

Hi, Anyone know what I'm running into here and, ideally, what a good workaround might be (that lets me use vector printing to pdf)? I make a new document, draw a zig-zag with the line tool, set the line type to dashed and turn the thickness up a bit, then I draw a shaded circle, and, although it looks fine on the screen, the segments of the zig-zag line have "grown" in the print preview (or even when I actually print...which is how I found it) such that a "V" shape becomes a backward "Y" where the left line of the "V" extends to the lower page bound and the right line of the "V" extends to the top page bound. If I delete the circle or switch from vector to raster on the rendering tab of the print dialog, the printing issue goes away. This is with 0.46 on ubuntu gutsy. Type1 Fonts on Windows XP

How do I configure Inkscape for Windows to see the Type1 fonts I have installed? The GIMP sees them fine (which also uses freetype), as does OpenOffice.org. The font names and corresponding pfb file names even show up in my .fonts.cache-1 file but I still can't see them in Inkscape. Thanks for any answers. 0.46 for linux

I would like to congratulate the developers for putting out a wonderful program. I have been using inkscape pre-releases downloaded from http://inkscape.modevia.com/ap/?M=D. Presently I am using the inkscape20080328rev18054AOCV.package. After the release, I checked out the above site for the autopackage as well as http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=93438, but could not find a pre-built version for linux. We find versions for MAC and Windows, but not for linux. I know, we can wait for the distros to release the program, but I have not found that in debian sid till date.
