System font size on windows

Can anyone out there help please? I've just upgraded from .42.2 to .43 and now all the menu and status bar fonts are too small to read. I'm running on Windows XP. I can't find any settings in the program to change. I've read the posting about changing gtk-font-name="verdana" etc. Although this just change some displays, it doesn't change the top menu line, or the status line at the bottom of the window. Version 42.2 was displaying at a size that was quite readable. Help. Thanks Mark.

I wouldn't have minded using Linux, but I still don't have mine talking to my favorite printer. I did find this utility that got the job done: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=141842 It has about the nicest UI for this type of thing I've seen with plenty of control over the paper orientation and overlap. If they ever do integrate such a feature for native svg files, I'd like to see something like this. Unfortunately it requires the use of an intermediate bit mapped file (PNG is ok). By default Inkscape exports bitmaps at 90 dpi. You will probably want to increase that (from the Misc tab on Inkscape Preferences dialog) to something closer to your printer resolution, but the file sizes grow quite fast. Output goes to a PDF file. I hope someone finds this useful. Bob M

Printing Large Documents

Is it possible to print canvases that are larger than the printer's paper? I have several drawing on "tabloid" sized canvases that I would like to print on two (or more with some overlap) pieces of US letter sized paper. This is also known as print tiling and I even found an RFE on it: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=967795&group_id=9… Unfortunately it doesn't look like any action has been taken. Hi, Sorry don't mean to nag if this has been discussed before, but why are people allowed to attach files on this mailinglist? Why can't they just link to the files like on other lists? For example I only have 30MB space, it fills up pretty quickly with 680KB-lists (and atleast my client shows the attachments like text, having it as a link would save time checking it out too). Connectors and grouped objects, etc.

Dear All, I'm continuing in my attempts to draw block diagrams using Inkscape's new features, and I've just encountered some odd behaviour with connectors and grouped objects. I have a rectangle with a text element on top of it. I want to draw arrows between these blocks using connectors. There are a couple of ways that I can do it: I can group the text with the rectangle, and use the center of the group as the anchor for the connector, or I can leave them ungrouped and use the center of the rectangle. If I use the center of the group the problem is that the connector becomes detached if I ever ungroup it. Ungrouping is not unusual; although I can edit the text without ungrouping, I need to ungroup in order to reposition the text within the rectangle. If I use the center of the rectangle for the anchor, the connector seems to become disconnected if I group the rectangle and the text. There are also problems with connectors and snap. It looks as if an un-anchored connector end does not obey any snap rules, or the limited-direction feature that the line tool has when you hold down ctrl while dragging. Also, "Select All" followed by "Transform - Move" seems to not move the connectors. Are these known issues? Is this code evolving in CVS? Cheers, --Phil.

Trouble with 0.43 reading 0.40-saved works

Dear Mates, I'm having some very painful troubles with the brandnew 0.43 release. Namely, when I try to open SVG files that I saved with 0.40, font elements usually get shifted, and stars, circles, and squares get totally black, even if they were supposed to be yellow with red border colour. This is kinda problematic because I don't have 0.40 installed along with 0.43, but sometimes it'd be pretty handy to work with these antique resources. Now, it's possible that someone already asked this stuff earlier here, or it was an officially announced 'Known issue,' however I haven't found anything very certain so far. Should I reinstall 0.40 and leave advancement for the pros? Or can it be solved somehow with 0.43? Thank you in advance, Gabor Nyeki. --- No funny stuff here.

resetting clones

Hello everyone, just a quick question about ability to "reset" clone of an object. When I create clones on an object, I can manipulate them at my will (to some extent). Namely, I can stretch them, rotate them and so on... Is there a way to undo these transformations and reset the clones to the current "image" of the original? I realize that this sounds like a non-sense.. why did you modify the clones in the first place, right?! The answer is that I use Inkscape to annotate my plots generated by Matlab. Sometimes I replace Matlab's markers by mine: I create the marker and then clone it as needed. Now and then, it turns out despite my best efforts that it would be best to scale the whole plot.. maybe along the y-axis only... In this case the clones stretch, which is somethign I don't want. And since there are many clones (sometimes even thundreds) it is tedious to replace them again. Thank you for any insights!! Happy holidays! David

Unfortnately it looks as if resizing the clones (i.e. so that they fit the text that they contain) always resizes the box stroke width, even if the "scale stroke width" button is off, so this doesn't really do what I wanted. Great, I can do CSS, and "instance of a class" is a more familiar mental model (HTML+CSS, C++) than "duplicate of a clone". Using clones for boxes with text in block diagram

Dear All, I am about to start drawing some block diagrams and thought I ought to check out the new features that Inkscape has gained since I last did this sort of thing. For an example of what I have in mind, have a look at http://decimail.org/docs/overview.html. Basically it's just a collection of boxes with text in them joined with arrows. Obviously the new connectors feature will be useful, though I look forward to more flexibility about where the lines can join the boxes. I'm also considering using clones for the boxes. What I'm after is a way to be able to change things like colours and line thicknesses just once, and have those changes affect all of the boxes of that class. Is cloning the best way to do this? It seems to work, but there is one problem. Normally I put some text inside the box and then group the box and the text. But if I then clone the group the text cannot be editted in the clone. Maybe cloning isn't the right solution to this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks, --Phil.
