I've got a few bugs open for Win32 issues, and a few ideas on how to address them. What I don't have is a good way to compile or run Win32 tests here on my Mac. :-) What would be helpful would be anyone who could either build win32 versions with some tweaks or anyone who could run quick tests with those builds. Especially given our freeze state, I don't want to check anything in to CVS that hasn't gone through actual build and user testing. So... If anyone could help with either of those aspects (I've had a few people mention this in chat), just drop me a quick email directly and say if you can compile, test, or both. (no need to clutter the mailing lists to responses to this) Thanks.

You would have to install the fonts on at least one computer, but once you had done that, you could then convert the symbols that you need into outlines and then save them as .svg for future use. Symbols and Fonts

Hi list, I got some fonts that represent some cartographic symbols and I would like to use it without install the fonts. Even if I install the fonts I would have many trouble to load it and find the one I want. Could you send me some suggestion to use this symbols ? I attached the image to explain what I mean. Windows version: Internal error

Hello, I use Inkscape on my Linux (after several years with Sodipodi) and I used also Inscape at work on WinXP. But now, I tried to install latest Inkscape on WinXP on my new laptop (due to problems with HW vs. Linux installation) as a partial solution, but I get "Iscape encountered an interanll error and will close now." message with "Close" button. There's no log file or whatever that could lead to the solution of a problem... I also tried to replace the binary executable for the "LATEST" available windows binary, but it doesn't work. Color fill

Hello to the group. I'm new here and new to Inkscape. I've spent way too many hours on this, so I'm going to ask..... I have created an image of a plaque. The border around it is essentially lines and curves connected together until they meet at the starting point, then another that is one grid square inside of the first. I want to fill the area between the parallel lines (that form the border) with a color, then fill the inside of the plaque image with a different color. I can manage to get odd-ball areas to fill with color, but that's it. What am I doing wrong? Chuck

HELLO INKSCAPE - I LOVE WHAT YOU PEOPLE ARE DOING! NOW I NEED TO KNOW SOMETHING. I'VE BEEN FOOLING AROUND FOR AWHILE, & READING EVERY POST ON THIS FORUM. I LIKE TO ANSWER MY OWN QUESTIONS FIRST, BUT NOW I'M STYMIED. USING 4.2 ON OSX.3.9 I REALIZED THAT WHEN I OPENED A NEW DOCUMENT IT RETAINED WHATEVER FORMATTING TO SHAPE FILL COLOR & LINE I HAD MADE WHILE FOOLING AROUND THE LAST TIME. TODAY, I DRAGGED 4.2 TO THE TRASH & INSTALLED 4.2.2 USUALLY, I LIKE TO TRASH THE PLIST FILE, CACHE, & ANYTHING ELSE I CAN FIND LIKE THIS TOO. OTHERWISE I'VE HAD PROBLEMS CARRY OVER OR EVEN NEW ONES CREATED ( I LEARNED THIS TRICK FROM APPLE SUPPORT FORUM , ERASING & REINSTALLING & UPGRADING OSX SEVERAL TIMES ). Area Selection Tool?

I really enjoy using Inkscape for refining and processing line art. Sometimes I'll use Inkscape to color, however, this requires me to create a new shape by meticulously tracing areas by hand. Is there any tool that would just let me click an empty area and have it automatically create a new shape by detecting the edges of nearby paths? This vector equivalent to the bitmap fuzzy-select/magic-wand tool would be extremely useful. Chris

Inkscape font help

Hello. I'm a new Inkscape user, and was hoping anyone out there would be able to help me on a specific problem with the program. I have new ttf fonts that I've installed on my computer, but Inkscape won't recognise them. Other users have been unable to help. I use a Windows 98 system. Exporting Inkscape graphic for high-quality printing

Hi everyone, I have created an Inkscape SVG with Inkscape 0.40 (the version from Ubuntu 5.04 Synaptic). I then wanted to export it to EPS because I have to give it to a print shop (it's a poster in A0 format). However, the exported EPS was of poor quality. Especially the gradients were not exported at all, and the text looks quite shaky although it displays fine on screen, even when zooming in. I then downloaded Inkscape 0.42 from the website, in the hope that it may solve some of these problems. But I still cannot export anything vector-based which will look exactly like the original drawing. In particular: - PDF export does not contain most objects, and only exports A4 size - EPS export still does not print the gradient correctly (even if printed on a Adobe-certified Postscript 3 printer), and the text either looks very clunky (when using "convert text to curves") or has the wrong font (when not using the former) - SVG (plain) export looks terrible in Adobe SVG viewer (only text, in Courier font, no graphics) Any ideas? Website translation procedure

Hi all, pistoncito asked about how to do translations of the website currently. I figure this suggests we need some sort of documentation, so here's a start. It sounds like we will need to change this process once we figure out how to do the automatic web browser language detection, but until that gets sorted out, we should use this process. I'll also post this to Wiki so folks can update it as better approaches are worked out for it. http://wiki.inkscape.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?WebsiteEditing Translating the Inkscape Website ================================ 1. Do a CVS checkout of the website module. 2. Create a subdirectory at the top level with your language code. I.e.: inkscape_web/es/ 3. Copy pages from the main site into your subdir structure, and begin translating them. Look in the other translated areas for examples of what needs translated. Note: The tutorial translations in the doc/ directory are handled separately from the website translation. These are the files in inkscape_web/doc/*/ that have .XX.html extensions. You do not need to do anything about these pages. Note: The translation of doxygen, wiki, and the various SF pages are separate from the website translation. You do not need to do anything about these pages. 4. Add a flag for your language in the images directory. It should be named inkscape_web/images/flag-XX.png. (where XX is your language code). Next add an img for the flag to inkscape_web/includes/header.php See how the other flags are done in that file as an example. 5. Add a news item to the index page announcing your translation. You are encouraged to write it in both English and your native language. 6. If you have CVS access, then commit your changes to the site. See the Website Editing and Working With CVS documentation for directions. If you do not have CVS access, then show your translation to one of the Inkscape administrators for review. They will then give you access to CVS and the website, so you can deploy your changes. Bryce

navigational plotting

I'm having trouble drawing a path depicting a vessel's movements. For example, from some starting point, go 123 miles on course 091°, thence 73 miles on course 346°, etc. Drawing any single leg of the trip is no problem. I can make a straight line of a given length, then rotate it to the correct orientation. However, creating these legs individually and placing them end to end gives the diagram a klugey look. The corners don't have the perfect appearance of a path created by successive clicks with the pen tool. I can get the diagram just right by first roughing out the path by eye, then using the Inkscape XML edit feature to modify the node coordinates. To get the correct numbers I perform vector math on a calculator. This is laborious and blunder-prone. Is there a better way?

problem importing ps

Hi, I'm trying to import ps from inkscape, it does not work here. I use mandriva and version of inkscape inkscape-0.42-0.1.102mdk. Is there any bug fixes related to this in version 0.42.2. Is it possible to read directly the changelog of inkscape for different version? it seems to run pstoedit that isn't not able to convert from ps to svg (I tried on the command line. When tenting the importation it gives a popup window with this message : pstoedit: version 3.40 / DLL interface 108 (build Mar 19 2005 - release build) : Copyright (C) 1993 - 2005 Wolfgang Glunz Warning: some types of raster images in the input file cannot be converted if the output is sent to standard output and then it says that there is an error : /usr/share/inkscape/extensions/sk2svg.sh: line 9: /home/manu/tmp/tmp.zNhkh10874/sk2svg10872.svg: No such file or directory (probably because the svg file was not created) (By the way to convert from ps to svg I'm using right now pstoedit to convert to .sk and then load the .sk file in skconvert and export to svg, a bit unpractical!!) Another Inkscape Book update

Hi, I've once again updated my book "A Guide to Inkscape": http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.php The book should now cover almost all (if not all "non-experimental") features of Inkscape v0.42. The biggest changes are the completion of the Tiling and Tracing chapters as well as adding an index. This is still a draft. I plan on adding more examples and of course the new v0.43 features when they have stabilized. There are a few things that I don't fully understand. Perhaps someone could enlighten me: 1. Find dialog: What is the use of the "Text" entry box. I could not get it do anything. 2. Gradient handles: Is there a good use for gradient handles that snap to each other? 3. Text and Font dialog, Spell checker: Does this actually work? Thanks, Tav
