Hi Folks! How to maintain the external size of an object by changing its border thickness? Every time I change the border thickness, the object size automatically changes as well. This is really annoying, because I have to resize again...but in that case the border thickness changes too. So I'm going to repeat this boring procedure until I get it. Nathan, I will try these alternatives suggested by both you and Robert. Honestly, I expected simpler solutions, for a problem that "doesn't seem to be complicated". I imagine a configuration like this: a checkbox with an option "keep the external size of the object, regardless of the thickness of the border". I don't have much knowledge in inkscape, I never took a course, but I think this editor is amazing. Thank you very much. Alexandre - There are instructions for a couple of ways of doing what you want at https://superuser.com/questions/128814/how-to-create-an-inner-border-stroke…. The easiest way may be to use the trick near the bottom of the page, of unsetting the option (an icon on the toolbar at the top) that says 'When scaling objects, scale the stroke width by the same proportion'. (I sent this message yesterday but it was blocked because the 2 images made it too big. The way I handle this is to make the shape, copy it and then use the copy to clip the shape. thus giving it half the line weight. These should be grouped together. when you scale this group, the line will scale but you can then set the weight to whatever you want by setting the line weight to 2 times what you want, as you now only see half. I am running opensuse tumbleweed using proot-distro. My de is xfce. When i click maximize button on inkscape it does not change window size. inkscape selector tool not work porperly

Hi， everyone, It's just begin from today. that my inkscape 1.2.2 and inkscape 1.3 beta0 not worked porperly. When I using "selector tool" drag a selecting box, some item out the box will be selected, only if it's tectangle border partly cover by my selection box. I mean if I draw a selecting box as blue rectangle showing , because of the line's border is partly covered by the box ,the line will eventually be selected. I don't find any setting related to that. So anybody know how to solve the problem or this is a new bug? by the way, the problem was happened after I tried to using inkscape 1.3 beta0 as a windows 64bit compress zip pack. and after that I found Even if I back to use 1.2.2 the stable version I already used, the problem just still exist. yours BrightHuang

Unset Stroke Color Only?

Hello! I would like to request a new feature that sets stroke color to “unset”, while leaving stroke style as is, so that I can control the stroke color of it via CSS. I noticed that I can unset the stroke paint in the Fill and Stroke dialog, but doing so also unsets stroke style, making it inconvenient for me, as I have to remove the “stroke” attribute in the final svg file in the end. I’m aware that it’s better to file requests to bug tracker systems, but as the Report Bugs suggests I decided to send the request here for discussion before doing so. Thanks!

Hello all, I am new to Inkscape and wonder if what follows is a known bug, or an error of mine. I'm running Inkscape 0.92.4 on Linux Debian 4, so it may well have long been fixed. When I export it to PNG, the first line appears with the red 123 on top of the blue 321, as if the tspan's had been processed in reverse order. (The second line, without tspan's, remains correct.) Is anyone else having problems with moving figures to top, up in a layer, down in a layer, or to bottom. Let's say we create two circles, with different interior colors (red and yellow) that overlap like a Venn diagram. The circle on top determines the color of the common area. Try to move the circle on top to the bottom, or the circle on the bottom to the top, changing the color of the common area. It doesn't seem to work?

Actual object contents are somehow not within parent selection boxes, how to fix?

I've attached a svg logo I originally got from some web site. I've attached it. Unfortunately it seems pretty broken in that the actual contents of a lot of the contained objects don't seem to be within the bounding boxes of their containing objects. I've found that if I more the right sub-objects around I can get them back withing the bounds of their parents (e.g. by putting g42->svg40->g38->g36 I can get it into the bounding box of g42. But of course fixing the entire thing this way would be really painful and might still not really be correct. Is this thing really valid to begin with? Is there any good systematic way to fix it? I open an svg from the command line and select File -> Import which defaults to a directory I haven't worked in lately and I have to browse to get an image in the directory the svg is in. Is this unexpected? is it configurable? Thanks, Kent

Hey inkscape-user mailing list, In light of the Figma acquisition by Adobe, I've been thinking of Inkscape. Since 1.0, the user experience has greatly improved, and this has me wondering: what has changed that enabled this rapid development? I remember Inkscape being stuck on some version for years, hardly progressing for whatever reasons. Now I feel more than ever Inkscape could use development resources. As a FOSS enthusiast I feel knowing its history could help getting into its development, giving context to what exists today and less questioning about decisions made along the way. how do i change "open a different file" dialog size?

when i open ink, to choose file, the size of the window is too wide. how do i change "open a different file" dialog size on inkscape? i would prefer to fixed width size (max width of 500) instead of default (at present it seems to be more than 1024). regards, jindam, vani
