can import image default to location of the file?

I open an svg from the command line and select File -> Import which defaults to a directory I haven't worked in lately and I have to browse to get an image in the directory the svg is in. Is this unexpected? is it configurable? Thanks, Kent

Hey inkscape-user mailing list, In light of the Figma acquisition by Adobe, I've been thinking of Inkscape. Since 1.0, the user experience has greatly improved, and this has me wondering: what has changed that enabled this rapid development? I remember Inkscape being stuck on some version for years, hardly progressing for whatever reasons. Now I feel more than ever Inkscape could use development resources. As a FOSS enthusiast I feel knowing its history could help getting into its development, giving context to what exists today and less questioning about decisions made along the way. how do i change "open a different file" dialog size?

when i open ink, to choose file, the size of the window is too wide. how do i change "open a different file" dialog size on inkscape? i would prefer to fixed width size (max width of 500) instead of default (at present it seems to be more than 1024). regards, jindam, vani

Yes the export dialog is mis-behaving. BTW my file folders come up very slowly in Ubuntu as well which is why I was afraid of other problems. Directory path problem exporting to png in Ubuntu

When I click on the directory and choose a directory, add the file name and save, it exports to a directory /run/user/1000/doc/<8 character hexidecimal> This then shows in the export file field with the entered file name at the end. This morning a file saved correctly, later this problem occered and the files show in the correct directory but look like ".xdp_<file name>.ZDP701. After my last attempts to correct the directory in the file field of the export window, the files dont even show in the directory or in the Ubuntu "Recent" directory, but exist in the /run... directory. Is this an Inkscape problem, or do I have a rootkit, or both, or something else??

Appear this object: https://0x0.st/oSYC.png When i go to back to text tool, appear this blue box: https://0x0.st/oSYF.png I can modify this blue box to modify the allowed size of the text box. Now the problem is the following: How can I modify this size of the blue box manually in pixels? That is, modifying the XYWH values in numbers of pixels.

Zoom like Krita

Is it possible to use the zoom tool like krita does? Let me explain: If you hold control + middle mouse button/middle button on the pen it's possible to zoom in and out by moving the mouse or pen. This also work for rotating the page, but instead of control you hold shift + middle button. Does this functionality exists hidden in the preferences menu or those tools would need a total rewrite to be able to do this? I need to convert *.eps files to *.pdf, and I used Inkscape to do it.

Inkscape can make a margin around *.eps pictures when I need to convert them to *.pdf, but after upgrade to version 1.2 of Inkscape an error appear when I try to open the *.eps files. First a small window is asking: "Determine page orientation from text direction" No matter the reply (Disabled, Page by page or All) the next window is writing: "Inkscape has received additional data from the script executed. The script did not return an error, but this may indicate the results will not be as expected." - Followed by a list of errors. The only option is to press "OK" and no more happens. I am running Inkscape on OpenBSD 7.1 on a RaspberryPi 4 (8GB version). Best regards Freddy Fisker

Does anyone know who to ask about the search function on Inkscape.org not bringing up results for my extension? I uploaded https://inkscape.org/~FractalLotus/%E2%98%85sashiko-stitching-patternssome time ago but searching for 'sashiko' in the page search function doesn't bring up results.

There's no need to watch unless you're interested in a bunch of people thinking and talking. This discussion was really interesting, and varied. Covering people's thoughts on what is Inkscape is as a project, how we paying people changes things, how we go about asking volunteers, what this means for our sense of identity. What the SFC thinks of corperate involvement, of project different structures etc (big thanks to pono and Karen for attenting from the SFC). Are GPU Acceleration & Color-Managed Exports on the Roadmap?

I was just wondering if anyone knows whether GPU acceleration and CMYK (and spot color) exports are on the roadmap for future releases? I design professionally, and I'm trying to get away from Adobe and Windows for good; these features are just about the final hurdles to make Inkscape usable for me in a professional, print-focused setting. I know Scribus can be used to convert colors, but the state of SVG support in Scribus makes it difficult to rely on for this purpose. With those features in place, barring some small UX concerns, I think Inkscape would be a 100% viable alternative to Illustrator in pro settings. It's so close already, and I've really been enjoying learning it. I have moved most of my machines to Manjaro, but I have one Windows machine left that I access via Parsec to run Adobe CC when I have to; I'm itching to get rid of it. -- Kind Regards, Nathan -------------------- /Out of office, on vacation, or on sick leave?
