Keyboard shortcut for global snap toggle?

Dear inkscape users, I have installed the latest inkscape available in ppa:inkscape.dev/stable for Ubuntu 20.04. I would like to change the default keyboard shortcut for toggling global snap from the default "%" to "F" (or "f") key. That used to work for me in inkscape 1.0 and previous versions thanks to the following lines in ~/.config/inkscape/keys/default.xml file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> <keys name="My custom shortcuts"> <bind key="f" action="ToggleSnapGlobal" display="true" /> <bind key="F" action="ToggleSnapGlobal" display="true" /> </keys> But since, I think, 1.1 version, my custom keyboard shortcut "F" is not working any more. I have also tried to change the shortcut via Preferences, Keyboard, Shortcuts but I don't see how to do it. For completion, I have another shortcut defined in the same file which does work for opening the Tex Text extension: <bind key="j" action="org.ekips.filter.textext" display="true"/> I appreciate your help, Best wishes, Pablo

Opening .pdf file gets completely white figure

Hello everyone, I'm having a problem with Inkscape version 1.1.1 on my Macbook macOS Monterey 12.1, running on a M1 Pro chip. Whenever I open a .pdf file, all I get is a completely white image. Just a white square, nothing else. I've used Inkscape for years on Ubuntu and never had this problem before. Could anyone give any advice? Thanks a lot! Kind regards, Luiz Guilherme Enger

Problem with line spacing

On the system OpenBSD I have a problem with Inkscape. When I write a text of several lines, the first two lines have the normal line spacing, but the next lines have the double line spacing. It is a great problem for me because older documents get the same problem, when I open them. OpenBSD tell me to write here to Inkscape. On OpenBSD it is version 1.1.1p1 of Inkscape I am using. Somebody privately emailed me advising me to check the following box to eliminate this symptom: Edit>Preferences>Behavior>Transforms>Transform Gradients This indeed cured the problem. I will be hammering this hard on my Wednesday night presentation. I don't know why transforming gradients isn't the default behavior --- after all, gradients are placed in objects, and all objects can be transformed (moved). In the rare instance when you don't want the gradient to follow the object, it's easy enough to grab the handle(s) and move the gradient after the fact. A little more about the symptom. I reproduced it just now, and the problem isn't that the gradient handles disappear, but instead that things re-center and the handles go offscreen. By zooming out I was able to locate and move the gradient handles. Hi everyone, the Inkscape project is planning to host a virtual booth/stand again at the Chemnitzer Linuxtage (CLT), on March 12 and 13 (Sat/Sun) 2022! Usually the largest Linux and Open Source event in Germany, CLT are going to be an online-only event in 2022 again. The CLT (Chemnitzer Linuxtage) are an all-day event and we could use your help answering user questions about how to work with the program, how to contribute to it and about what is going on in the Inkscape community, by being available for questions and chatting at our virtual booth. The other thing we plan to do again is a series of short, 10 to 50 min topic-focused sessions – show other users how you use Inkscape, how to use your Inkscape extension, how people can help the Inkscape project or which cool things you made with Inkscape (and they can, too!). A live drawing session, a demonstration, a tour through your maker lab - anything that has to do with Inkscape is possible! I had a rectangle with a radial gradient above a big rectangle and below a schematic diagram. The drawing, which had taken me about 8 hours, was finished. All I needed to do was resize it and save. When I resized, the gradient disappeared and the rectangle was a solid color. I attempted to re-do the gradient, but this time it was too bright and ended too abruptly. I haven't decided how to deal with this yet, but I just wanted to advise you: Don't apply a gradient to anything until your drawing is the proper size, look frequently to make sure your gradient(s) remain the same, and if you have gradients, back up after every single save. Top 20 tips for using Inkscape to make diagrams?

Hi all, My next book (almost complete) is about constructing Mental Models. I recommend Inkscape for those using Linux. The book has an appendix on using Inkscape. I'm looking to just cover things most important and often used in drawing diagrams with boxes, text and lines. In the cheatsheet portion, I have: Esc: Unselect s: Enter Select Mode t: Text Ctrl+D: Duplicate Object Shift+Ctrl+F: Edit Object's Visible Properties: Shift+Ctrl+A: Align And Distribute Objects: In the Tips section, I have: * How to make all the toolbars visible * Turn off all snapping (Shift+5) * Turning off changing an object's stroke width with changes of object size * F12 to toggle visibility of dialog boxes * Use 12 to 14 point fonts for labels * Don't use Inkscape connectors for interaction lines - They don't work right - Use lines or Bezier curves instead * Don't use multiline text: Use 1 text object per line instead - Multiline text isn't part of SVG - Multiline text often and unpredictably screws up in Inkscape I also have a short section on how to create and manipulate Beziers (paths). This appendix isn't meant to teach Inkscape or be an Inkscape reference. It's merely a guide to most useful Inkscape tactics for diagram drawing, and warnings to stay away from landmines. Can anybody think of very important tactics to use for creating box-and-line diagrams for Inkscape? I have a design made up of a series of closed shapes.I want use Inkscape to ‘fill’ the background of the closed shapes with images of different types of wood. Inkscape Not Useable

Hello, I am having many issues with the current version of Inkscape for Mac OS. Version number is; Inkscape 1.1 (c4e8f9e, 2021-05-24) and it was downloaded from Inkscape's website. *Before I add a bug report, can someone tell me how to completely remove Inkscape from my system? I am using Mac OS Mojave, 10.14.6 on a 2012 Mac Pro computer and Mac OS Catalina, 10.15.7 on an 2012 iMac computer. Both systems are having the similar issues with Inkscape and only Inkscape.* Biggest issues are crashes. Crashes opening various files, crashes closing various files, while crashes while working in Inkscape. I have looked thru the bug lists and see some of the issues there. My previous version, 1.0.2 (e86c8708, 2021-01-15), also had some crashing issues, however, in the latest version, the app is very unreliable and hard to use for even the simplest of drawings. Here is an example. The attached drawing will crash Inkscape. Notice the lines with arrows on the end. Remove the lines with the arrows on the end. Re-create the first line starting at the circle and ending across the 2 horizontal lines. Select the line you just drew and try to add an arrow to the end. Inkscape should crash, at least it did today when I tried this again after the first crash. This was a new drawing in Inkscape. This is just one scenario. I've had crashes adjusting gradients, fills, outlines, object sizes, points in bezier lines, adding and/or adjusting text , , , etc. Many drawings from www.openclipart.org will crash Inkscape when opened or if you try to do any editing in the downloaded svg file. Printing Issues

Hi there, When I print off the item I made on inkscape the words are coming out blurry when I have them on the color background I want, but once i take the background away they come out just fine. Hi Henry, you can learn more about filters here: https://inkscape-manuals.readthedocs.io/en/latest/filters.html Copy-pasting a filter from one object to another is done with Ctrl+C and then Ctrl+Shift+V on the other object. I know I can create a design with a number of closed areas so that all I have to do is to select a particular area and then choose a colour to fill that area. The picture below shows a selection of typical veneers I want to show. As can be seen the veneers are not a flat colour. Is there any way I can used a scanned image of the veneer so that I can see the variation of colour when I use this to fill a selected area of my design? Hi everyone in the Inkscape Contributor Community, thank you very much to those who had joined us for the first 'Inkscape Office Hours' meeting on July 16th! We had a great time getting to know each other and tossing some ideas around. You all can find the meeting log at https://inkscape.org/paste/28194/ During the meeting, we've all been working on a document together, where we've been collecting ideas for two of the major questions of the Inkscape Board to the community: https://pad.chaotikum.org/p/Inkscape_Office_Hours_1 For those who were not able to attend the live meeting, I will keep the pad open for another week, so you also have a chance to add your ideas there. Please mark your own ideas with the name you go by in the community, and also add a short suggestion about how you could help with making them reality! When the week has passed, I'll package the results up for handing them over to the Inkscape Board, so they can have a look at the feasibility, and we can continue from there. There's no established process for this yet, so we'll just have to try and see where we can get. There's no date set for the next Inkscape Office Hours meeting yet. Hello Inkscape contributors! The Inkscape project has grown so much in the last couple years, and we have teams spread all over the internet, working on improving Inkscape and helping the project and its users. Also, we have lots of exciting new things to decide upon together as the Contributors' Team! For this reason, we've thought of trying out something new to allow every contributor to also contribute their ideas for the future of the project as a whole: The "Inkscape Office Hours"! ============================ The first meeting of this kind will take place on Friday, 16th July (today!) at 5 p.m. UTC (in your timezone: https://inkscape.org/cals/ ) If it is well received and productive, we'll make this a regular thing. We will have members from the Inkscape Board there, and also some of the other people who are most involved with Inkscape matters on a day-to-day basis. And YOU (hopefully)! ------------------ Don't know whether you 'count' as a contributor? Doubts? Well, that's one of the things we'd like to figure out together! We really need to, it's required for voting rights. There's a Board vote pending, because we haven't yet come up with a good definition. We are planning to update our project charter to include more than only developers, as is currently the case. So please come and join us, even if you're unsure whether you 'qualify'!
