Hi all, for those interested here is a svg file with inskape iconset optimized for 16x16 px, specially useful if you're using a laptop with less resolution. to install the file copy it to "/usr/share/inkscape/icons/" in linux. or "c;/programs/inkscape/share/icons/" in windows. to change the icons size goto: file - inkscape preferences- interface and choose smaller for all toolbars. In Inkscape one can arrive at CMYK-equivalent colors but only if one of the four CMYK factors is zero. Is there any of the standard Inkscape palettes that contains only colors that are convertible to CMYK without significant color shift? interpolation issue in Inkscape

Hi Inkscape community, I have an issue with unwanted / inferior looking interpolation in scaled Inkscape PNG exports. In the case at hand I have a pixel art image that has been converted to SVG using 40px x 40px vector squares for each pixel (whether or not Inkscape is the right tool for playing with pixel art is *not* the question here ;-) ). When such an image is scaled down a little and exported as PNG, it shows some poor interpolation artefacts. These artefacts are less obvious or not present in the actual Inkscape display, but very visible after export. Here is an illustriation of the problem: http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/769/inkscapeinterpolation.png (Please view at original size first to prevent additional interpolation.) Please note that some of these interpolations do not seem to make sense, e.g. using bright grey in the brown / dark red hair of the character. I am very aware that Inkscape may not be the weapon of choice for this kind of operation. Still, my questions: - Is there any way to prevent Inkscape from interpolation / anti-aliasing upon exporting such an image? - If this is an interpolation issue: why does Inkscape use such inappropriate colors? - Shall I file a bug? :) Any hint will be appreciated. Linux laptop/tablet PC for running Inkscape

Hello! I'm interested in using Inkscape with a stylus on a touch screen and I'm heavily influenced and inspired by articles I've read about Máirín Duffy's use of a Thinkpad x61 to create illustrations for Red Hat: http://blog.linuxgrrl.com/2009/11/08/fedora-12-rocks-on-tablets/ http://mairin.duffy.usesthis.com/ I'm not sure what I would do with Inkscape exactly, maybe make a webcomic as I hinted about here: http://www.webcomicalliance.com/helpful-hints/mac-vs-pc-the-webcomics-editi… . For now, I just want to doodle a bit. Anyway, following Máirín's lead, I guess I'm thinking about buying a Thinkpad X Series Convertible Tablet. As of this writing the model that's available is the X220, but I'm not sure how well it works with Linux and Inkscape. Lenovo doesn't ship the device with Linux pre-installed: http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/laptop/thinkpad/xtablet-series/index.html I'm open to other hardware suggestions. On the market right now there's an HP EliteBook 2760p Tablet PC and a Dell Latitude XT3 Tablet PC as well. Basicially, I'm looking for something that will run Linux and Inkscape and let me draw on the screen itself rather than using a Cintiq. Is this a common hardware setup for Inkscape users? Can anyone recommend what device I should buy? I've been using Linux on the desktop for five years (usually something Red Hat-based) but never on a laptop. Thanks! Phil

I know this isn't a very scientific method, but still :-) I'd import the color map to inkscape or GIMP and use the gamut warning to "mask" out of gamut colors. then capture the "masked" palette, then re-create the palette using the captured values. CMYK-Safe colors depend on the output CMYK profile, so it's probably impossible to have a generic "safe" palette without using a specific profile as starting point. I'm pretty sure this isn't the best way to do it (there has to be a programatic way to do it using RGB and CMYK profiles to compile a palette, but I don't know how to do it). IIrc the program Swatchbooker allows to choose profiles to "convert" palettes, but I could never make it work. hth, Gez

Distorting text.

Came across a string of text on a book cover where the first letter leans to the left, the last leans to the right, the middle character is upright and all the others have a lean dictated by their location with respect to the left or right end points. I have tried TSP art[1], but inkscape redrawing was slow while rotate and resize the TSP image cause me to miss rotate and miss scale even with snap to gird on I am wondering if there is another tool that can do the rotating and resize the tsp image? I know that Google and perhaps others try to analyze the text in PDF files for purposes of SEO. Does the same hold true for svg? Imprting book cover.

I want to display a book cover. It is currently in pdf form but I can save it in any of a number of other formats. When I saved it in svg (from Scribus) the file was huge and the image was distorted. so that is out. That leaves PDF or a variety of bitmap choices. I am thinking of png or tiff. I am having no luck flowing text into a text frame. Instead I will just create an ordinary rectangle as a shape, highlight both and try flowing into a shape. Linked Image Not Found

Hi I am generating PNG from SVG using the command line (WXPSP2) inkscape.exe -e <imgFile> <svgFile> My SVG file looks like <svg> <defs> <pattern id="myPattern".....> </pattern> </defs> <path.... style="fill: url(#myPattern);"/> </svg> When I generate the PNG I get the "Linked Image Not Found". If I open the SVG file with Inkscape I get the same error, but if I replace the http:// by a local path (file:/// because I run the Web server locally), it shows the image. I can not embed the image and the URL is ok. In fact If I generate the PNG using Batik it is working fine. Is ther any problem using http:// form images? Is there any additional argument I must pass to the command line? Thanks a lot Isi

Inkscape in html

I have Inkscape working as a standalone, using Firefox as the test bed. Now I want to put together an hybrid file, html but with svg embedded. I found this toy online but it doesn't work on Firefox: <html> <body> <svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" version="1.1"> <circle cx="100" cy="50" r="40" stroke="black" stroke-width="2" fill="red"/> </svg> </body> </html> When I tried adding a more elaborate file created by Inkscape the text came through but the graphic elements were missing and the text passages were jumbled together. Various other options like <object or <embed either didn't work or didn't allow linking etc. At this point is svg in html too fragile to fool with? Experimenting with the link property.

I created a test document with a single link to my web page wexfordpress.com. I saved it as drawing.svg. Locally when I address drawing.svg in firefox I get the page with the link on it. The link works (yay!). But when I stored it on my other website, wexfordpress.net, in the folder /var/www/html where my other web pages go, it doesn't work correctly. Instead I get a display of the internal svg code. When I tried to put it in the root directory of wexfordpress.net Firefox can't find it at all. I suspect my web host doesn't support svg in any manner. Has anyone here successfully mounted an svg page on a remote web host? Circle animation in SVG

Hi all, Some animated artwork you may like. I decided to transfer an old Pascal project into SVG. If you use Firefox: http://tostiband.nl/circles_small.svg If you use Chrome or Opera: http://tostiband.nl/circles.svg http://tostiband.nl/circles_bw.svg http://tostiband.nl/circles_rgb.svg http://tostiband.nl/circles_vertical.svg It's my first script attempt/copy-paste-fest, so probably I animate the circles in a dumb way, and that is why it is slow in Firefox. All comments are welcome of course. It is really nice to be able to hit a key to "maintain" the wave it is showing, i.e. all circles start rotating with the same speed but with the current phase difference. Then if you hit the key again, the program continues with the different circle speeds and rotates through all kinds of waves. Maybe if I feel like it, I will add this, but... it would be nifty if someone could give me some code that I could copy-paste for that :P :P Ciao, Johan
