By default, the rulers on an Inkscape document have an origin in the lower-left hand corner. Is there a setting or pref or config line I can change to move the origin to the upper left-hand corner?

delete several guides at the same time

hello all, just updated to the last build. works fine. Let me ask, is there a way to delete several guidelines at the same time? Sometime I use a lot of guides, and then I have to drag them one by one to the ruler.. Other thing, I would be really nice if in the dialog at the bottom left, where there is the color of the fill/stroke etc, we could see the grey values as they appear in the color bar. bugs in build 19 aug

Hello. using the build of 19 Aug on an Ubuntu malchine. I found that I cannot import anything. I tried with SVG and TIFF, and I always get the "inkscape encountered and internal error and will close now" Also there are times I cannot copy from one draw and paste in another. I have two inkscape windows, side by side, I copy (or cut) something from one and when I try to paste into the other draw, I get "Nothing in clipboard"... weird... Looking for help with a script

Hi, I am using Inkscape to create some tea caddy labels. Typically, the process involves a few steps. Since the process is highly repetitive, I am wondering if it is possible to script the processes that minimizes my intervention. I am no computer wiz, and could use help from some one who is. If so, please email me, and we will work on this together. We could then document and release the script as a tutorial for others to use. So, here are the steps... 1. Open one of the three templates 2. Modify the text in the template, and save the file as new label. 3. Export file as png (check examples http://www.jayateas.com/images/badamtamteabaglabel.png http://www.jayateas.com/images/badamtamloosetealabel.png ) 4. Open new 8.5x11 document, and import png file 5. Resize png import, and place accurately using x and y values 6. Tiled Clone to create a row of three (some x & y shift values need to be changed) 7. Hi David, I had a discussion a few months back re SVG features with Chris, who works on W3C SVG, on colour space and how these features are implemented in Inkscape. To make a long story short, it seems that CMYK colours are perfectly supported by SVG standards but that Inkscape only encodes colours as RGB. (apart from the fact that you can use a CMYK interface to input them) . Thus resulting in the following situation: Inkscape allows you to input CMYK values to pick a colour but saves the SVG file with RGB, although SVG does support CMYK colours. My advice is the following workaround : create your SVG, import it in Scribus, in Scribus, redefine your colours as CMYK and save as EPS (remove unused colours). Fortunately for logos you should have very few colours. It is a somewhat tedious workaround but the one I picked as it is reliable. Hi all don't know if this feature is planned or even already implemented in snv. There is one feature of CorelDraw I haven't see anywhere else. When you click an object and then you can transform it, change the width, for instance. If you hold CRTL while doing it, it will cause the object to be moved or scaled, in amounts equal to its size, so you can use it to mirror the object or to place a duplicate aligned to the original one, without the need of additional actions. the problem is that in Inkscape, if you drag the diagonal modifiers, you need to hold shift to make it changes proportionally, while this is the default action for Corel. So maybe it would need to hold two keys, or use some other key (like Alt).. don't know if I made myself clear, but it's a feature worth having. exporting slices as boxes

Hi! I've made some graphics for web pages with inkscape, but I find hard to export certain areas. For example, I have a Box, a rounded corener one, that should be exported in three vertical slices, the middle one, will be repeated as a background latter. The point is I make a rectagle surrounding the area I want to export, then, I lower transparency to 0%, so the box won't be exported, but the drawing inside its area (this box has no stroke). Then when I want to select this "ghost" box, it's gone! If I select an area that contains the box, there it is, but, no simle way to select just _that_ box. Any suggestion? I think that maybe the search box may help, but I don't undesrtand how it works. Thanks in advance. Nahuel

Compiling on Win32

Oops.... who woulda thought 'send' had a keyboard shortcut? Here is my complete question.... I followed the directions from JonY to compile the SVN on Win32 (I know I don't really need to as the new win builds are perfect but I enjoy the challenge) and I keep hitting the same problem. When I run 'g++ buildtool.cpp -o btool' I get a string of errors starting with - buildtool.cpp:53:18: error: string: No such file or directory buildtool.cpp:54:15: error: map: No such file or directory buildtool.cpp:55:15: error: set: No such file or directory buildtool.cpp:56:18: error: vector: No such file or directory followed by a lot more that seem to be related to these initial errors. I found the files in question in C:\mingw4\include\c++\4.2.0 but I have no idea how to make g++ see them. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Thanks, Tony

Letterspacing Keycommands under Linux

I've spent a full day trying to figure out why the letter-spacing and line-height commands (Alt+<, Alt+>) are not working under Linux. I'm running OpenSuSE 10.2, with Inkscape 0.45.1, but no matter what I do, the only thing Alt+< does is put commas and periods in my text. I tried the text section Inkscape Advanced tutorial. Manual kerning shortcuts work (Alt+arrows), but letter-spacing (Alt+<, Alt+>) and line height (Control+Alt+<, Control+Alt+>) do not work, it only places commas or periods, as if the shortcut didn't exist. Outside of text edit mode, Alt+< and Alt+> perform a uniform scaling. I've already changed my GNOME Keybindings away from using ALT as a modifier (it was conflicting with Maya). I've checked the default.xml keys file and I don't see any mention of an action for letterspacing/line height, so it doesn't seem like I can change it. And I tested 0.45.1 under Windows and the commands work perfectly fine. I'm thinking it could be the build, but I doubt it - it was installed via the autopackage from the Inkscape website. I would gladly appreciate some help on this situation! Thank you!

broken perspective effect

I have just formatted my computer and reloaded opensuse 10.2. I have everything put back together and that includes Inkscape v0.45-1 (inkscape-0.45.1-2.guru.suse102.rpm). However, I have run into a brick wall with the perspective effect. It seems a long time ago I had a similar problem but I cannot for the life of me figure out what I did to fix it. Not even sure if it's the same error. I have attached a pic of the error that I am getting. I have python-numeric-24.2-36 and python-numpy-1.0.3.1-0.pm.1 installed. An 'rpm -q python' results with python-2.5-19.4 if that helps. Hmm... heathenx

svn needs files not installed by poppler

Hello! I start this as a new thread to avoid misunderstanding and to give it a better titel for others to find answers easier. It's basically what I posted in "[Inkscape-user] When is the next version due?". I have a linux from scratch. gtk 2.10.13, poppler-0.5.91. svn inkscape Revision: 15884. I do ./autogen.sh; configure; make. Configure is happy with my system and also with my poppler-0.5.91. poppler-0.5.91 has the header files that can't be found during inkscape make but these seem to be headers only for compilation of poppler or poppler at least does not install them. Telling inkscape configure about the sources of poppler helps but then the make gets stuck because some includes in the poppler-headers are local ones which then of course don't resove. I couldn't find any hint about some special poppler install in the docs but as it is brand new developpment docs are often behind. I just wonder if and then how someone made a complete make with poppler used with current svn so far? Regards, Lynx

How do I do 'Power clips' (or Feature request)?

Hi I used to work in Corel draw 7.0 (now seven years old) before switching to inkscape. However there was one very powerful feature that I can't seem to emulate in inkscape: the so called 'Power clip'. In Corel Draw you could place any object inside another object. For example I could design a complex vector drawing and then have the place the whole thing inside a circle so it's clipped as though I'm looking through a port-hole. You could even nest multiple power clips inside one another. Is there some way to achieve this in inkscape? I know you can use object->pattern but that doesn't allow for fine control of positioning one object inside the other and it necessarily tiles the interior object. If there is no easy way of doing this I would like to make a feature request. It's a really powerful tool and Corel draw had it seven years ago! Thanks to the developers for an awesome program :). Inkscape not printing properly

Hi! I'm having trouble printing out my poster project. It consists of 1 layer with several shapes, fonts, and an imported gif w/ background transparency. When I print it, several objects....specifically my background does not print out. I saved it as a pdf and the imported gif did not show up when I viewed it, but everything else was there. Any ideas? Do I have to flatten? If so how? Hey Maarten, The distribution you're thinking of is called Ubuntu Studio ( http://ubuntustudio.org/). It's a derivative of the Ubuntu distribution that focuses on multimedia editing/creation, I've only tried it once, but it seemed to work well. Though I think if you are already running Ubuntu, you can install all the same packages just by adding the Ubuntu Studio repositories to your sources list. Mediabuntu is actually just a repository of packages that can't be included in the main Ubuntu release for legal reasons (libdvdcss etc..) Oh and this is my first time posting here, hi! I've been using Inkscape a little for various pieces of college work and have found it much more enjoyable to use than existing commercial applications. Software is so much more interesting when there is a good community behind it, keep up the good work everybody involved -- developers and users. Cheers. I am currently running inkscape.45.1 I am a scrapbooker who uses inkscape to generate DXF Files that we convert to files that cut on the personal die cutter machines, We use these as scrapbook titles and die cuts. We found a "Bug" a few versions back that worked great for us, but I think it was tightened up in this version, so I will explain what I need, and see if you wonderful developers can help, yet again. When we want to do a title, it is so much easier to "connect" our letters before we cut, therefore simplifying the assembly of it. In a previous version of inkscape we could type in our title, then kern the letters to our liking, and hit "control j" and then "control l" and have our title all connected and the centers of the letters preserved. This is so much easier than converting to path, then having to break apart, and select the outside paths only and doing a union, However in inkscape.45.1 the control j and control l no longer works, as where the letters overlap, instead of unioning the letters, the overlapped part, the overlap has a path, that would cut on the cutters, and we would have individual letters, instead of a connected word. Is there any way of adding a "Letter Union" function where we can just kern, our letters, and do a letter union, thus preserving the centers, and connecting all the outer parts of the letters, and generating one path for them? (When we do this we always work in outline mode) Thanks, you designers have been fantastic for us. This would really save us lots of time. How to create a circular pattern

I feel completely stupid. Maybe I'm just not seeing that "Get your free circular pattern here" button in Inkscape. What I need is a circular arrangement of clones of an object where I can select an object, set a center point, an increment angle and number of clones and just get some clones along a circle or arc. There's this ultracomplex thingy for "tiling" things but I don't think it does what I need. Thanks, --D.

David, Re my previous post, your question also implies a workflow that will go to Indesign, and well such a workflow is always a source of problem - I got good results nonethless even on transparency, and transparent gradients, with PDF export from Scribus, and import into InDesign. Nonetheless I was unable to check whether CMYK colours remained in the case of Scribus PDF imported in InDesign. Direct PDF export from Inkscape was not so good with the loss of transparent items when imported in InDesign. Such PDF can be imported in Illustrator but not modified! As a matter of fact, creating a gradient where the second colour ONLY has a transparency seems not supported by Illustrator (and very simple in Inkscape). Even creating a gradient fill with only ONE transparent colour in the gradient seems unsupported by InDesign (my latest investigations). Therefore if it was specifically what you intended to do, you may be trying to get InDesign to do what it does not support, even when designing objects from scratch. In the case of the Scribus PDF imported successfully, transparent gradients lead to blending with the background, which of course is not acceptable for a logo, but may still be what you want to achieve. I hope you find this information useful. Inkscape cannot correctly render LaTeX formula

Dear All, Inkscape 0.45 can render correctly the formula $\pi$ (Effects --> Render --> LaTeX formula). However, the formula $a^2$ and many others cannot be rendered. Do you confirm this? Paul
