Doublesided Print Alignment

I have two inkscape drawings, each have two 360 degree protractor wheels on them; exact same size. I am attempting to print drawing 1, turn the paper (it's doublesided photo paper) and then print drawing 2, and get the prints to align properly. Purpose is so that I do not have to print singlesided, paste the wheels together & then laminate. The project calls for printing all 4 wheels (2 ea from each inkscape drawing) back-to-back so that only two wheels are necessary for laminating. I have tried moving the wheels individually (on drawing 1 only so that drawing 2 is the base) by x & y pixels, but so far haven't found the proper combination to get them to align exactly with the backside of drawing 2. I'm running out of ink & paper with each attempt. Drawing 1: wheel 1 x 120 y 560 px wheel 2 x 250 y 150 px Drawing 2: wheel 1 x 240 y 570 px wheel 2 x 140 y 130 Note the above are just samples and are not the closest alignment(s) when printed. That is just what I have on the currently opened drawings at this time. I can of course move each drawings wheels individually to position. But in order to test I need to print each on each side in color. So, I wonder if there is some magical x/y number/method I can use instead of trial & error (mostly error). Printed paper is US Letter (8.5x11"). Memory sucked away... why?

Hi all, I am a new user. When I run Inkscape on Windows Vista, it starts fast, then runs slower and slower. If I open task manager and look at processes, I can see the Memory (Private Working Set) - and as I watch it just keeps increasing. When I start Inkscape, it is using about 70 MB of ram. I load the picture I am editing and it jumps up to 80 MB - still ok. But as soon as I start editing the picture, the memory starts growing - often by 6 MB at a time, until it is using over 1 GB of ram. At that point, I have to exit Inkscape and then either restart the computer or wait about 10-15 min before it actually exists (at least according to task manager.) All the other programs I watch in task manager have the memory used grow and shrink as they perform various tasks. Only Inkscape keeps growing and by such a large value. And the higher the memory used, the longer it takes for things to happen. Even if I do the same thing (move a group of lines, etc.) Any idea of what setting I might change to fix this? Just Me

Placement of Toolbars

Is there anyway to change the placement of the toolbars? I would like them all to be on the left. Also, is there anyway to re-attach a toolbar? -- Just my 0.00000002 million dollars worth, Shawn Confusion is the first step of understanding. Wide carriage HP755CM install on Windows Vista

I found an old HP 755CM 36" wide format designjet for $75 at our local Technology Recycling Center. HP officially doesn't have a driver for this designjet anymore. But the HP driver file - '*HP Designjet HP-GL/2 driver for Windows and AutoCAD 2000 - AutoCAD 2005'*-- *pl532en.exe - * for Windows Server 2000, Windows 2000, and Windows XP, will work for Vista and Windows 7. To set it up: Connect the printer to your ethernet network. If your internet router is set up as a DNS server, it will get an IP immediately. If you don't have DNS on your internal router, then you may need to download HP's Jetdirect control software to access it and assign it an IP address. Once an IP is assigned, execute the *pl532en.exe *file to a directory you make just for this driver. Run 'Add printer', select network printer, search for new printer, and the IP address of the new printer should show up. Cancel, then run 'Add printer' again but select *local* printer and use the IP address as the name, and the printer port will auto-create. When asked for the driver, browse to your directory so it can find the .inf file. The 755CM will be listed. I saw posts which stated that this file worked with Windows 7, and I read other posts that there's a 64bit version of this file which will work with 64bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 as well. This designjet will print on clear film, coated bond, heavy coated bond, adhesive vinyl, and others. Will also print on 8.5" x 11" in landscape orientation. I'll let you know when I get it hooked up with Linux. - Susan

Bamboo Fun tablet for Ubuntu

For those of you who want to install a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet on Ubuntu, upgrade to Maverick. If you have a different Ubuntu version, and this workaround works, please post. l had web searched for info, found some advice, but nothing yielded results. Then checked the bug listings for Ubuntu. Ubuntu guru *Stefan Bader* determined that the current simple workaround is to install input backport modules using the Ubuntu Software Centre. Select '*Backported input drivers for generic kernel image'* --> name of the file is “*linux-backports-modules-input-maverick-generic*“. Install, then reboot. Wacom’s *MyPaint* (also installed through the Ubuntu Software Centre) listed devices as ‘disabled, screen, window’,which is a bit confusing but I made no changes. The tablet worked perfectly. *Gimp 2.6* Edit/Preferences/InputDevices/ConfigureExtendedInputDevices listed The Wacom Bamboo Finger Pad, Finger Touch, Pen eraser, Pen stylusd but they were marked as disabled. Again I made no changes, and the tablet worked perfectly. Last test – opened* Inkscape 0.48*, selected ‘Draw Free Hand Lines’ – tablet worked fine. - Susan

Inkscape/Synfig animation team-up example

Hi folks! For a contest entry, I used Inkscape in conjunction with Synfig to make a 30-second animated commercial (of sorts). I did it in two days, just before the deadline, so it isn't exactly perfect, but it turned out reasonably okay. Synfig imports svg files pretty well now, so I was able to create all of my elements in Inkscape (and thus take advantage of its really nice drawing and painting abilities), then take them into Synfig for rapid (though in this case limited) animation. Here's the finished product: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY4rx7CzaDY (If you'd like to help me win the contest, please feel free to hit the "Like" button. :D ) I used Audacity for the sound recording and Blender's Video Sequence Editor to edit everything together. Plus, it was all done on Ubuntu, so it was a complete open source project. If there are any coders on the list who are just dying for more stuff to do (it could happen!), Synfig could really use some help as it doesn't yet have anything close to the user base that Inkscape enjoys. I hope, though, that this little contest entry shows the potential that Synfig has and, especially, what a great combo Synfig and Inkscape can be. Cheers! Matt Jordan

Extensions slow / crashing Inkscape

I have produced the O-scape extensions to enable the creation of Orienteering maps using Inkscape. I am producing a map of an urban area, which is larger than A3 paper size at 1:4,000. The SVG file is currently 2,126KB with over 3,200 objects (and counting) and has three linked (not embedded) image files; two maps and aerial imagery from Google Maps. Most of the map has been produced using standard Inkscape functionality for lines and shapes. Now, though, when I want to convert a line to a special line type (such as a tagged line representing a fence), the extension runs very slowly and sometimes crashes Inkscape. Sometimes Inkscape 'loses' the aerial imagery, instead displaying a low res image saying 'Linked image not found' at which point I can save and exit normally. Other times, Inkscape crashes with the following message - 'GLib-Error **:gmem.c:175: Failed to allocate 134217728 bytes aborting...'. I've tried running other extensions, not just my O-scape ones, with the same results. I'm running Inkscape in Windows Vista Home Premium on an Intel Core2 6600 @ 2.40GHz computer and have recently increased the available RAM from 2GB to 4GB. Am I reaching the limit of Inkscape? Is there some way that I can alter my set-up to a) make extensions fun faster, and b) stop the extensions losing the linked files or crashing Inkscape? Jon
