John, Installing on Slackware 12.1 worked ok for me. I needed to install the GC garbage collector from here: http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Hans_Boehm/gc/gc_source/gc.tar.gz Then I ran the Inkscape configure script: ./configure without any additional options. Then make, and make install. I did that after installing Gnumeric which needed 2 preliminary items installing. goffice-0.6.4.tar.bz2 intltool-0.40.0.tar.bz2 gnumeric-1.8.3.tar.bz2 - install with ./configure, no additional options. I wonder if these Gnumeric things supplied anything needed by Inkscape? I'm not sure. Inkscape and Gnumeric are essentials that I really miss now Slackware has dropped Gnome - fortunately it wasn't too difficult to install them. HSL colour picker

Hi, I noticed Inkscape has a HSL colour picker, which is great. Is there any way to change the scale of the components though? i.e: H: 0 - 360 S: 0 - 100% L: 0 - 100% The default setup has values from 0-255 for all three components. /me is no good at 8-bit mental calculations ;) Roger -- Sunburnt Software www.sunburnt.com.au +61 7 3117 9661

INkscape on windows XP

I know I can put up a Debian or derivative partition (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Mbotu etc.) and get to Inkscape 46 fairly painlessly. I also have already an unused Win XP partition. My question is, does Inkscape 46 download painlessly to Win XP or is it one of those kludges where you have to download this to compile that to support something else? I am looking for the easiest path to a fully functioning IS 46. PDF won't open

Howdy, I just did bzr branch lp:inkscape configure, make and install seem fine. The resulting Inkscape doesn't list .pdf in open dialog, errors if I try to open one. What am I missing? Thanks, Kent

SVG web programming OT?

I hope I am not too far off topic here...... There are quite a few resources out these concerning programming SVG graphics but I have not found much of anything concerning SVG web programming. What I mean to say is, how do I take an SVG document and add hyperlinks, css, javascript, etc , to make that document a rich full fledged web site?-Patrick

There's a lot to say about this new release...you might prefer to see it immediately..so, start from here: http://inkscapegallery.net/home I worked hard for three months to build gimpgallery (http://gimpgallery.net)and it has been recently released... So i had many ideas about how to improve inkscape gallery, i was tired and anxious at the same time... The second feeling won and i'm here to list what i've done in the last days: *The home page* It is a complete section with 4 subsections, "from the inkscape's world", "highlight on", "special sections" and "a little taste of inkscpae gallery". *4 new sections called:* fresh, mostvoted, older and popular *The "inkscape galleria"* it is a slideshow made with a jquery plugin labeled "galleria",indeed. It is quite smart and fast, just to give you another way to see what is best in inkscape gallery: images! *The user's "inkscape galleria"* Every user has his own "galleria" , just click on the link in the title block of each image content *Some layout improvements* In a big website you will always have something you fixed with a workaround, not in the best way, in other words... I've found better solutions now *The "from the inkscape world" section* It is the upper section in the home page. This was not an hard work but is important i mean, just because i'd like to work together with other inkscape based website. *The wysiwyg editor* we have a simple wysiwyg editor now. It works only for logged in users, anyway *The antispam framework* we've never had critical spam problems, you can directly publish in inkscape gallery only when logged in, indeed. we have user profiles, with an email field and i wanted to keep it safe from spam even if you need to be logged in to view the user profiles... (maybe not anymore in the future...) Anyway, the email field is protected from spam, now *The gimpgallery promo* I wanted to make you know about gimp gallery. It is another image gallery website for a free image editor and it is even more advanced compared to inkscape gallery, actually. It is freshly born and quite empty, i had to borrow some images from inkscape gallery so, if you're a gimper, go there to publish your images! This is what, i hope you to like it, there's always something to fix, to improve but that's inevitable (especially on IE) :-) i'm planning the next steps to bring inkscape gallery to the next release! Hi, I just want to check that there won't be an Inkscape booth at Lug Radio UK. Is that right? Also, is anybody planning on setting up a booth at Linux World? I know there has been one at least once in the past. The publisher of my book is willing to send copies to be displayed at these (or any other) conferences. BTW, the 2nd Edition (for 0.46) should be out soon. Tav

Inkscape and Latex fonts

Hello all, I use inkscape to create my latex diagrams, then I export them to eps or pdf to include them in slides or papers. One thing that bothers me is that the fonts are different (latex and inkscape fonts). Is there a way to draw the text in the inkscape diagram with the font used on the document the diagram is included?
