splash screen

I too want to submit a splash screen. I will do it by the end of Sunday (i.e. Jan.06 23:59, GMT +2). I was planning to do it earlier but I kept postponing this. I hope I won't be too late (I interpreted the current deadline as 00:00 Sunday, i.e. the beginning of the day, rather than the end.)

Inkscape SVN snapshot - Ubuntu .deb's

I tried the Inkscape SVN snapshot - Ubuntu .deb's on Ubuntu 7.10, but I don't see an entry for importing or opening PDFs in the open or import menu. I see that on a recent Mac OS X PPC version though which is older.

Aligning strokes along a circle

Hi all, I would like to align a number of cloned strokes around a circle, but wasn't able to find a howto at the Inkscape web site, or Tavmjong's online book, so I'm posting this to the list. I guess that it must be easy, but I just haven't figured it out, yet. Btw, I find the Inkscape documentation (and especially the book by Tavmjong) really great! Easily edit names

A lot of the names can be edited by right-clicking on an item, but some names can't be edited so easily, and even when this works, it is tedious when wanted to give meaningful names to many items. The XML editor could work, but would require a complete find-replace to replace the name. Instead it would be nice if there was a name manager that could show all the name used in a file, what type the name is (group, pattern, image id, etc), and even a preview of the time, and allow renaming it from there and making sure the new name is not used by something else. For example, the name linearGradient3313 doesn't mean much to me in a big file with many gradients. I'd rather name it to be more meaningful so if an item is to use the same gradient, I can more easily recognize it, esp. if it is similar to another gradient. The same goes with other things like patterns, etc, and it would be nice to have an easy-to-use name/id manager for them. p.s Not sure if this is the correct place to send this. Sorry if not. Inkscape and DXF files?

The school where I work has a laser cutter attached to a pc. The pc runs 'PC Design', outputing to the cutter. http://www.techsoftuk.co.uk/techsoft_software.htm As well as it's own propriety files, PC Design will accept dxf files to output to the cutter. I've tried importing dxf files created with Inkscape into PC Design, but they don't get rendered. Are the dxf files created by Inkscape's export non standard or otherwise 'funny'? Does anyone know of a 'workaround' for this problem, please? Jim Ford

Default Save Format

I am using the latest windows build of Inkscape (0801032322) but this has been happening for a while. I saved a document as a Cairo PDF which worked fine. Now my save format defaults to Cairo PDF instead of svg? I can see this would be useful to someone who wants a different default format but I expected the format to revert to svg. Curiously, if I open the pdf I saved and do Save As, it does revert to svg but if I open a new document and do Save As, it still reverts to pdf. If I save a document as svg and then try a new document, it does show svg so it is generally using 'last used'. I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature but if there is intent to make the save format persistent then shouldn't it have a setting somewhere to disable it? It seems counterintuitive as it currently is. Linking objects to a path for quick and easy bending around

Is there some way that I can link objects to a path so that I can change the path and have the objects follow it? I've made an SVG to demonstrate what I mean (in this example, I had to move the objects manually to match the path.
