new autopackage install - no icons in toolbars

Hello all. 0.46 Development Version available as Autopackage or ZeroInstall?

People, I am hanging out for v0.46 but have had problems building the svn version in the past (Fedora 6/7 - now on 8) - can I get v0.46 via Autopackage or ZeroInstall somehow/somewhere? (Sorry for the duplicate post -- first msg was sent before I was subscribed) I have some files in Illustrator's AI format (from Illustrator version 8 I believe). According to the Inkscape wiki, only AI version 9 or later can be opened by Inkscape. Does anyone know of a conversion tool that can open my v8 AI files and convert them into a format that Inkscape can open? Thanks, Michael

Equation Graphing (like geg) in Inkscape?

People, I would like to able to produce graphs from equations like geg (Graphical Equation Grapher - uses gtk): http://www.infolaunch.com/~daveb/ A found a suggestion that this is possible in inkscape: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/TufteStylePresentation but I can't find any more info about how to do this - can someone give me some info? Ideally it would be great for Inkscape to be able to read a script with the list of equations (using some acceptable syntax) and plot them along with axes, grids, area selection, zoom etc. geg has limitations wrt displaying grids, exporting to PDF etc. It seems that this would be useful addition to Inkscape? Using textures

Ok, I tried creating some textures to fill in various items in an inkscape drawing that I'm using to test. I created the textures in GIMP and saved them as PNGs. Performance has been abyssmal, even with small numbers of polygons. Is there a different way I'm supposed to be doing this? Will --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. No, I did not mean to reply to you directly. My apologies. I understand the point that you have made. I have been burned by forgetting to embed images in the past. That's mostly my fault for forgetting (just like forgetting to make my text a path before giving my svg to others). However, if I had an "up-front" feature somewhere that would help me remember then maybe other users would find it handy too. I'm no developer nor a bigwig in the community so I wouldn't expect anything that I suggest to go very far. Thank goodness for that. :) heathenx

tracing lines from a bitmap

I want to trace a map from a bitmap, and using the built in tracing tools I get a reasonable trace. But I was wondering if there isn't a way to trace bitmap lines not as a path shaped as the outline of the bitmap lines, but as a single path going through the center of those bitmap lines. In other words, some kind of line recognition. I tried the edge detection, but that gives you two lines - not really what is required. Thanks for any help.
