Karol, Thanks for the reply. Well, yes and no. :=) Following your advise, I discovered a way to do it. After pasting the objects onto the new page, *don't* do the "Fit page to selection" from the object property. That won't work. Instead, invoke the "Document Property" function from the top (under File), and then select the "Fit page to selection" from there. The whole page then shrink down to the size of the object - rather then trying to explode the object up to the size of the page. Works perfectly. :=) Thanks for your inspiration. Thanks for the reply, Aaron. I don't want to work in PNG mode because there is an obvious quality disadvantage when I resize the figure later inside Word. That's why I am using EMF. The quality is very good in EMF mode. Hello everybody, As promised there is now an official release of Inkscape version 0.45.1 compatible with Mac OS 10.3 (Panther). I have recently asked how to easily scale multiple objects, including characters, and then later scale only to a particular font size. Somehow, this is difficulty to do in inkscape (but I hope there is an easy trick!). It is much easier to understand the problem if you see what I mean by example. PDF export seems chopped off at the top with margin at bottom

Folks, I am trying to get a tight bounding box around a single exclamation mark input as text at large font size, selected, converted from text to path, and saved as a PDF, from within Inkscape. I have used Path-> Object to path and File -> Document properties -> Page -> Fit page to selection and exported as PDF. There seems to be a margin beyond the object at the bottom, and the top of the object is cut off, possibly by the same amount. This is seen when viewing the exported PDF at 6400% in Acroread. The dotted box that appears in Inkscape when the object is selected appears perfect. The settings for snapping to grid/object/path have been toggled with no change in behaviour of the exported file. I can post PDFs illustrating this if told where to post them. Is this a bug, and if so, is there a workaround? Thanks. Chandra 30 Apr 07

For design reasons, it is easiest to scale all objects first, then select the text tool with the same objects selected, and then setting the ORIGINAL font size in the text tool bar. And often, I need to scale the drawing as a whole in a non-aspect-ratio-keeping way. Because the original aspect ratio is not kept, it would indeed be extremely helpful to be able to restore text objects to the original aspect ratio. The way I do this now is going into the SVG file, but that is inconvenient. One of the 'dangerous' things is that right now, text objects with the same font size can be of different sizes, depending on their set aspect ration in the 'transform scale(a,b)' part of the xml text object. The way to solve it is to take the 'transform etc' part out of the xml. Maybe one could write an EFFECT for this, or write a simple shell script. I say that this is dangerous because I think it is a little bit counter intuitive that a text object with the same size can have different actual sizes. It is really easy for a user to get confused. For example, if you have two text objects that APPEAR to be the same given their font size, as shown in the tool bar, there is no way to tell which one is in the original font aspect ratio and which one is in the non 1:1 aspect ratio (unless you look at the transformation part in the xml, I guess).
