Thanks, Bulia, for applying the patch! I'd like to request the following further patch. You made w and h doubles, rather than ints, which makes sense, but the fabs is incorrect, because we have w<0 or h<0 on an empty document (I think they're -200000000 or something). script for embedding raster images

As Bulia suggested, I've written a Perl script that takes an svg file that links to bitmapped images, and embeds the images into it. The script is here: http://www.lightandmatter.com/embed_raster_in_svg It can be tested using these two files: http://www.lightandmatter.com/beer.svg http://www.lightandmatter.com/beer.jpg Download all three files, then run the script like this: embed_raster_in_svg beer.svg It copies the original version of beer.svg to beer.svg.bak, and then embeds the raster images into a new version of beer.svg. The output looks reasonable to me, but I'm having a hard time figuring out if it's valid Inkscape svg or not. Bulia said the latest version of Inkscape could handle embedded raster images, so I checked out a copy from cvs, compiled it on my machine, and used it to open the version of beer.svg with the image embedded. However, it showed up as a broken link, just like in older versions of inkscape. Can anyone try this and tell me if they understand what's going on?

The following is a Perl script I wrote for extracting jpeg images that are embedded in an SVG file. I thought it might be useful to some other people. Adobe Illustrator writes SVG output with jpeg images embedded in it. "How do I..." questions

Hi, I just started using Inkscape to help out with an icon theme I've come to like. I just upgraded to 0.40 and found it to be immensely more usable; great job! But I'm no doubt still a noob.... I was wondering if the following hangsup I've run into are possible. Help on any of them would be much appreciated: 1. I made 3 Bezier curves that I want to intersect into a shape, but when I try to change the fill for them, it changes on the outside of the shape. Is there any way to change that, or to have Inkscape recognise the 3 curves as a shape in its own right? 2. I'm in Linux, using librsvg 2.8.1, but one icon that looks fine in Inkscape doesn't render properly in the various applications I have viewed it in (it's an icon). What issues could be at work here? 3. Is it possible (again with the Linux version) to theme the icons on the toolbars? Like I said, I'm working to help an icon theme and it would be supremely cool if we could theme Inkscape. Kind of a hat-tipping to the program that helps us make good icons all around.... :) Thanks in advance, Andrew Conkling

I think this is what I was talking about a while back. An imported bitmap sizes in inkscape apparently as SVG points. Bring up a bitmap in gimp and 1:1 it and 1:1 the same bitmap in inkscape. The inkscape bitmap is smaller. It displays correctly if I view the svg in Illustrator. This also affects exporting bitmaps. One way I work around it is to size the SVG width/heigth to the correct size. Not perfect. First, I'd like to apologize to Bulia Byak for getting huffy about his earlier post on this topic -- it was dumb of me to interpret it in such a negative way. This issue has been the subject of three bug reports on the Sourceforge bug tracker: 1014460 1071596 1082762 Wolfiq's patch, which caused rotation of PS/EPS output when the width was greater than the height, has caused problems for dlehn, Jan, Erik Jonsson, and me. I think the fact that people keep reporting it as a bug -- on Sourceforge, and here on the mailing list -- indicates that there's a serious problem because of the patch. Although the patch produces the behavior that was expected by someone like wolfiq, who intentionally did File>New>...landscape, the behavior seemed incorrect and mysterious to the rest of us, who had been using Inkscape to produce small figures for inclusion in LaTeX documents. I've written a patch for the patch, which is intended to provide the behavior that Wolfiq wants, while fixing the problem for the rest of us. The patch is given at the end of this e-mail. I would like to emphasize that the original patch produces a real showstopper bug for those of us who needed to produce output that was wider that it was tall -- right now there is no way whatsoever to produce the correct (wide) PS/EPS output with inkscape. In the long term, the right solution would probably be to add a portrait/landscape bit to the SVG file. - The bit should be set to landscape if the user creates the file using File>New>...landscape. - There should be a way to control the bit using the GUI. - The rotation should also apply to bitmap printing, not just PS/EPS. - The Print and Save As dialogs should probably also allow the rotation to be turned on or off. However, my C++ and GTK skills probably are not up to the task of making these changes. Exporting/printing independent layers with Inkscape 0.4?

I have designed exhibition plans using Inkscape's new "layers" feature - editing is done in composed picture, but exports/prints are usually needed only from chosen independent layer(s). The design process goes well with Inkscape, but I have not found out how to print/export layers independently. Is it not possible, or did I miss something? Thanks, Jukka

Hi to all, I'm very happy with Inkscape's features, but missing one: How can I switch view to pixel 1:1? When I import image e.g. 200x100px, I can't see it 1:1. Would be very useful for web design development. thanx anyway :) Michal

Grid and adjustment

Sorry if "adjustment" is not the word here, I'm translating from Spanish. If not, I refer to the magic that snaps the cursor to the grid when resizing an object, or creating a new one, for example. The issue is the following: in a previous version (.38), I used to switch the grid on and off with "#" (vry, very handy) and with the grid, also I was switching on and off the "adjustment". This way, I could work always with the grid & snap, but when wanted to draw freely I just switched with "#". Now, with "#" the only thing that goes on and off is the grid, but not the "adjustment" (it adjusts to nothing, because the grid is not drew, but it still adjusts). This is very annoying to me, because to be able to work freely and back, and need to go the config, change the settings, and then again to go back. Is this intended or a bug?
