Everyone, Thanks for the help and responses! I managed to install it properly with Fink Commander rather than going the other route...it's working fine, and I'm already using it for graphic design work.. Thanks to all the responses, I can't wait to use Inkscape w/ Gimp and produce quality work w/ this open-source software.. Tim timjaeger@...85...

0.38 Release Packages Available

Hi all, We now have the basic set of packages we want (rpm, deb, exe) available for download. Could you download and try out the installation on your system? http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=93438 A problem was found in the 0.38.0 release (some last minute code additions introduced a bad bug), so we've cut a new release 0.38.1. We'd like to ask help from everyone to download and try out installing the packages this weekend, to see if they install correctly. If they don't, any investigation you can do into how to work around the issues will be greatly appreciated. We're hoping to put out the announcement by Monday morning, if things go well. Bryce

PKG_CONFIG_PATH newbie question

Hi, I made it through some rough installing but need to know how to edit the PKG_CONFIG_PATH to detect fontconfig and xft. A previous post says: >1) untar the inkscape-0.37 so that you have the [inkscape-0.37] folder. >2) change to that folder and issue PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig; export PKG_CONFIG_PATH >(assuming that your libsigc++-1.2.pc is in /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig folder) >3) after that, issue ./configure and so on. I tried issuing the previous commands, but they weren't found by UNIX. Any suggestions? Am i doing this correctly? I'm running mac os x. -Tim timjaeger@...85...

Mac OS X install problems

Hi, I'm new to the list, and have been trying to install Inkscape on mac os x.3 running fink, gnome, and Xtools for 2 days now (unsuccesfully) using both the 'top-down' (fink install -y inkscape) and 'bottom-up' (dl the .gz file and attempting to compile it that way) approach. The error I get from using fink is: fink install -y inkscape /usr/bin/sudo /sw/bin/fink install -y inkscape Password: Information about 1501 packages read in 2 seconds. Failed: no package found for specification '-y'! And when compiling from the source (doing a './configure' command) it stops at this error message: configure: error: You have to install pkg-config to compile inkscape. Not quite sure how to proceed, any comments/suggestions would be helpful, Tim timjaeger@...85...

Thanks to Kees and Bulia (and micelf) and others, we have almost put in place all current menu icons. We need however 3 more. After these are completed, then we can move on to replacing XPM icons in the interface. Hello all, Well, the wiki for the new open clipart project has been activated. Please spend some time looking over the content, and adding your own. Instructions for getting account access for the wiki are at the URL below. saving an objects moved center of rotation

first off, just found inkscape, its great! I can move an object's center of rotation, but it immediately switches back to the default. I'd like to set it permenantly. Is there any way? Thanks! daniel

Pre-announce: Release 0.38

Hi guys, We've not formally announced it yet, but if you'd like an early look, the Inkscape 0.38 release is official. All we're waiting on before the formal announce is to create the RPM's, EXE's, etc. If you're comfortable installing from source, the official tarball is now available for download. If not, keep your eyes on the download page for newly minted packages, and help us test 'em out. Also, we're welcoming new screenshots for this release, so if you've got something cool to show off using some of the new features, post a screenshot and we'll get it up on the site! Hi, Wanted to thank Bryce for turning me onto the Ishmal's index of updated functioning Inkscape progs. I have a few questions and maybe a bug report.. I tried to save the SVG's as either Inkscape or regular SVG's and regardless of which I click on all Mozilla does is load up endless browser windows with nothing to show. I think when I finally killed Mozilla I had about 50 instances of it and it was going to continue. Irfanview can't open them up either "unknown file format" is all it tells me. Draw12 opens it but it's flawed and RealDraw-Pro 3 opens it up but all color and fill effects and alpha is all gone. Just a bunch of gray squares! So is the save SVG not quite there yet or is there some thing that I'm not doing right?? Any way to Align objects, like center them?? Besides building in alpha are there plans to create transparency effects seperate from the color fills?? Many thanks!! Keep on cookin'!!
