Dear all, maybe this is a feature request, bug, or simply a question, so I put it onto this mailing list: When I import an eps that contains a bitmap (e.g. an eps generated from a MATLAB figure, that also has an image displayed), the bitmap in the imported form does not show the original pixels anymore but suffers from compression artefacts. These artefacts are not very visible for large image with small pixels relative to the total image size. However, I often need to display zoomed regions of microscopy image, where those compressions are having quite a detrimental effect on the import. As an example I created a MATLAB figure with 10x10 random pixels. I attach the svg file where I imported the MATLAB figure after saving it as a PNG within MATLAB and another import of the eps file that I saved with MATLAB. The artefacts are clearly visible. ;) Most times the compression is probably great to reduce overall file size, but in occasions like the ones described above it would be great to have a different or no compression of the bitmaps during import. While copying lines the end marks (arrows and others) are not copied

I have some strange experience while copying: I copied all the elements in a figure and lost the full node marks(?, Knotenmarkierung). This is hopefully not an intended behaviour. I never encountered it. Select over all layers copy insert and the arrows etc were gone. I can put them back but I find it strange and maybe a bug. The yellow background is one layer, the arrows are the next and text is the other. regards Bernhard

node tool control bar icons missing (not urgent)

Hi Friends, I had an odd experience earlier today. I opened Inkscape from my Windows 7 Start menu, like I usually do. Many of the Node tool control bar icons are missing, and showing that same red X icon, that the Undo and Redo buttons have been showing for 0.91 (instead of the real icons). I opened a new doc from Inkscape, and I opened another from the Start menu again, and those icons appear normally, as expected. I made a screenshot to show (attached). I don't think it's a permanent problem, but I'm curious what happened. I only have a vague understanding for how Inkscape handles icons. I have the idea that Inkscape calls for them from another folder. So does this mean there was some kind of problem when Inkscape called for them, and couldn't get them, for some reason? Not an urgent problem. I'm just curious :-) Thanks, brynn

Hello again, Sorry, I think I fixed it myself. I missed some dependencies here: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/CompilingUbuntu#Installing_dependen… After installing those, autogen.sh and configure ran fine. Trouble compiling Inkscape on Ubuntu 14.04

Hello all, Because I had been issues with extremely sluggish text editing in complex SVG files (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1219794?comments=all) I thought I'd get the source code and apply the (very simple) patch provided in that bug thread and compile it myself. I was able to get a working copy of the trunk, and I read the INSTALL file. However, the "./configure" file was not present (even though INSTALL seemed to assume it should be there). I managed to generate the configure-script by running "./autogen.sh" (after installing the required dependencies). When I try to run ./configure, however, it does some stuff, and then gives me an error: ./configure: line 5995: syntax error near unexpected token `2.2' ./configure: line 5995: `LT_PREREQ(2.2)' Checking a bit further back, it actually seems that although the autogen.sh ended with "Done! Please run './configure' now.", there is an error there as well. I am attaching the full output of both autogen.sh and the subsequent call to configure to this email. Hopefully someone can help me to compile Inkscape, so I could apply the patch for mega-slow text editing and get back to designing my poster :) Thank you, best, Eelke Spaak

Inkscape extension: inkscape-placeholders

Hi! I just wanted to share with you an extension I developed that might be useful for some of you, specially for inkscape web designers. Its a extension that has two functionalities: - Create image placeholders in any size and width with random images from unsplash <https://unsplash.it/> - Create random user avatars from uifaces <http://uifaces.com/>. Both plugins and documentation on how to install them are available via github: https://github.com/Xaviju/inkscape-placeholder I have also written a blog post on how to create inkscape extensions for non developers: https://medium.com/@xaviju/inkscape-extensions-by-non-developers-for-non-de… with what I have learned developing this extensions. Since I am not a python developer myseff it can contain some errors so I will be glad to receive feedback and corrections on how to improve it or PRs to fix any code bugs. A Cartoon I Created in Inkscape

Gimp to SVG
