Hi Maxine, I am new to Inkscape for MAC but trying to learn so I can use it on SainSmart Genmitsu CNC 3018-pro that I am also new at. I see it does trace your image so after you click update do you click ok then click the x in the right-hand corner? After that you will need to more the newly created trace over and delete the original image to continue. Let me know if this helps. I am having problems getting inkscape to generate the G-code, it will create the file but the file is empty. Skip

I am writing to you as I am unable to make use of the program that was provided for correspondence, so please accept my apologies for this message. I have downloaded INKSCAPE. Dmg for macOS 10.10.15 as suggested and although the program seems to load, I only get so far before I get the notorious SPINNING BEACH BALL. This has happened in both instances and I ultimately had to force quit . Is there something that ham doing wrong or is it the program itself? Please help if you can

Inverting Parts of a black and white graphic

Hello, is there a good way to invert a black and white graphic in inkscape. As an example, take https://github.com/Bouni/MDT-Glas-Push-Button-Template/blob/master/MDT-Glas… and invert the upper or the lower graphic. I tried to add a layer and use exclusive-or with a black box overlay, but I it did not do at all what I was hoping for (xor between black and white). Inkscape 1.0-beta2 release

Hi everyone! We are quickly approaching the long-awaited 1.0 release of Inkscape, and to allow easier testing of the progress we've made with it, we just released a 1.0-beta2 version! You can get the release at https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.0beta2/ in the form of source tarball to compile, AppImage for Linux, and .dmg for macOS (windows soon). The most visible changes should be : - MacOS Catalina users should be able to manipulate files - More responsive interface (faster rendering) - Improved text rendering All testers are encouraged to test this version and report bugs at inkscape.org/report The release date for 1.0 is not set in stone yet, but if we don't get major bug reports I expect a release around the end of December. == Translators == Thanks for your work! Strings have been frozen for a while, and it's not too late to submit translations until release date. == Developers == We have now branched the code repo. Way to fit better in desktop dark themes

Hello, i use Debian, with Mate Desktop window manager, and i use a dark theme with it. In this theme, all large areas background are black or dark gray, or some other dark color. The colors for fonts, foreground and many symbols are very clear, and not necessarily pure white. Most programs fit this setup well, they just inherit the user GUI theme when they run; but some are made to have their own colors, instead of anyone's colors - but the best ones have, at least, two themes. Telegram (desktop version here, but both fit) is a program that has many themes for us to choose, mostly divided between dark and clear ones - mine is dark, as you could guess. But inkscape is a program that really makes my eyes hurt after a few minutes playing with it - unless i do an alternative counter measure. Look at the attached screenshot. It has an inkscape window maximized in my desktop, and a small project i did yesterday. This project is basically a surrounding line for some text. I used a big background rectangle *just to* keep the inkscape white background away from the screen. It seems there is no setting for that color! At least, i did not find. The black background rectangle worked yesterday. But what if i wanted to make a project with a considerable transparent area?? Still in the screenshot, we see the result of making that black rectangle 100% transparent. It becomes white! It is not white, but white is what we see for something transparent with nothing behind it. I want this "nothing color" to be black, not pure white! Or even better: to be configurable. What do you think? What should be the best paths for me to solve this issue with Inkscape?

Why this error is happening? Browser does not open correctly an SVG file which is fine in Inkscape

Hello, this is my first SVG file created from scratch in Inkscape. It has 6 layers just because i decided it should be good to keep some parts in separated layers to make final adjusts eventually easier. But after i finished, i opened the attached file in my browser, and it only shows the black rectangle and the skin line which borders the whole story. Why all the text does not appear there?

on-screen color palette

I recently downloaded Inkscape (windows version). It was running great, as I was watching the youtube videos how to use it. However, somewhere along the line, I must of hit and/or clicked on something by accident, because NOW the fill/stroke color palette along the bottom of my screen is NO LONGER displayed. What did I do and how do I undo my mistake in order to be able to select colors again? Your help and assistance is greatly needed & appreciated… Larry

Having an issue

I am having an issue, no matter what image I upload I follow the steps to trace bitmap save my trace delete the original and try to export as PNG choose a folder and name it and export then I get this pop up with a red circle with minus sign in it with the statement the chosen area to be exported is invalid. Now I can not use at all to convert. Please help the screen shot is below Thank you! gradient bug?

To reproduce: 1. Make multiple polygons, with different positions. 2. Select all of them. 3. Add a gradient. 4. Add a direct repeat to the gradient The repeat only appears in one of the polygons, although the non-repeating gradient appears in all polygons. The expected behaviour would be for the gradient to repeat in all the polygons. Sequentially deleting the gradients reveals that there is in fact a separate gradient for each polygon, although they all have identical co-ordinates. Examples attached. Hi, I am trying to use inkscape 0.48.5 with gcodetools extension. before using this inkscape version I installed 0.92 but I had problems saving in gcode and after reading some documentation I installed 0.48.5. on version 0.92 gcodetools, library you could choose the tool to use,depth,speed… with 0.48.5 I didn't manage to do that. for every assignment I would like to use tool,depth and spped can you help! Inkscape not "High DPI Aware"

I've just installed Inkscape for the first time (on Windows 10) and discovered the toolbars and buttons are so tiny they're unrecognizable and unusable. This is due to Inkscape not being "High DPI Aware" (see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/hidpi/high-dpi-desktop-app…). The temporary solution is to right click the Inkscape icon, choose the "Properties" context menu item, then choose the "Compatibility" tab. Click on "Change High DPI Settings" and in the group box "High DPI scaling override" check the check box "Override high DPI scaling behavior." In the drop list select "System (Enhanced)". Click the "OK" button. Now relaunch Inkscape and the compatibility mode will take effect. Not sure how to file a bug on here but perhaps one of the developers can?

High DPI Export From Inkscape

Hello, Can someone tell me what the maximum image DPI is from Inkscape version 0.92.4? I have been able to export at 1,200 DPI, but can't at 3,000. Well, it eventually will, however, the image colors are way off. Some history on this problem. I have a web graphic I'm trying to turn into a 10ftx3ft banner. Graphic was created in Inkscape as an SVG file. Ideally, they'd like 300dpi to print this banner. This has worked in the past, however, my computer was updated to Mac OS Mojave and the latest version of Inkscape won't export correctly at the 3,000 DPI. This worked on the version of Inkscape I had installed on Mac OSX 10.11, sorry, I don't know what that version was. Probably 0.91 Basic question, is how to export high DPI images. Seems to have an issue with applied filters. Current image is 10 inches x 3 inches to obtain the correct effect from the filters. Thank You *David Paul* *P.S. upcoming opening of new Inkscape forum

The primary purpose of the forum will be providing support for Inkscape, but it will serve the whole project and community, in whatever way it can. It will function in much the same way that InkscapeForum.com (http://www.inkscapeforum.com/index.php) and Inkscape Community's forum (https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?action=forum) currently do. Concurrently to opening the new forum, Inkscape Community's forum will essentially close. All of its forum traffic will be diverted to the new forum (although its tutorials and other resources will remain available). Launch Ikscape with default theme

Hi! I still making an Inkscape course documentation and I need to do some screenshots. I want the screenshots be as Inkscape default appearance, but I can't do that cause my desktop (Debian GNU/Linux + XFCE) is configured with an icon theme. This theme. So, when I launch Inkscape it looks great with these nice icons, but it is not a good idea to teach newbies using Inkscape screenshots that does not looks like his running inkscapes. How I can start Inkscape ignoring my environment icon theme. Thanks a lot!

I've been trying to make SVGs exported from Inkscape accessible to screen readers for an article I'm editing on Wikipedia. Maybe one of the many tutorials about hackfests, or some googling around for articles would be better. Podcasts are mostly freeform Q&A, and can be 30minutes to many hours. They are a good platform to discuss things on-camera with little editing needed. The idea is that since we don't have time for a documentary, let's just talk with eachother on camera and see where it goes. Podcasts let you listen in on a regular unscripted conversation with people in the project on particular topics. They are a great community building tool because unlike a documentary or tutorial, you get to know what people in the project are like. You get to be in on those jokes, and the more you watch, the more you feel like part of the community. It's not a format for 50-words or less people. The pictures are nice, but video can be much better to relate the feeling of what it's like to work together face to face with people you work and chat with over the internet every day to make Inkscape better, support eachother and yes, have a bit of fun too. Multi-page support basically boils down to having a mechanism for creating/exporting multi-page documents. People have written extensions to use the layers dialog for this, however it really should be in Inkscape proper, and have it's own dockable dialog for determining things like whether the pages are facing (organised into spreads), or just appended one after another. The code will then be reviewed, and modificaitons suggested. As far as "assurances", absolutely not. This is a project where we work together. It takes time, effort and patience on everyone's part to get stuff stable and make sure everything works together. No project will promise to patch in arbitrary code before it's made. You could, of course make it for yourself, submit patches, and consider eventually making it into trunk a bonus. That may be worth it to you at the very least. Indeed, that's how a lot of folks get interested in Inkscape development. They want it, they make it, and they decide to share the results. Well, of course, it /is/ a labor of love. Missing shared library when running Inkscape alpha (Snap)

Hi, I couldn’t launch Snap version of Inkscape, and when I tried launching from CLI, I got this: $ snap run inkscape inkscape: error while loading shared libraries: libdouble-conversion.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Any way I could work around this, or should I downgrade to 0.92.4?
