Hi all, I'm using Mandriva 2007 32 bit Linux with 1.5GB of RAM and a single core Athlon processor. I'm trying to compile the Inkscape 0.45.1 tarball. File->Print doesn't respect the file properties settings

Hi all, When I do File->Print on my drawing, which is defined as landscape letter in File->Document_Properties, no dialog box is displayed. Instead, the printer asks me to insert A4, and when I put a letter page in the manual tray, it prints the drawing landscape,cutting off the right side of the drawing. The printer prints in duplex mode even though my default printer (lp) is defined as duplex off. When I do File->Print_Direct, a dialog box is displayed to allow me to define my print command, and when I set it to: lpr -P lp_dark the page prints exactly as expected. Therefore this isn't urgent, but as something unexpected I figured a report might be in order. I'm using the Inkscape 0.44 that came with my Mandriva 2007 Linux. My printer is an HP4050, which has postscript and does duplexing. Some of my printer definitions are from the CUPS database, while others (like lp_dark) are from the CD that came with the printer, suitably configured in CUPS. I have checked out the latest development snapshots, but turns out that Mac PPC version is not quite up to date. There are only recent builds for Intel... :( I am very excited about this news... Problems with text tool

Hi, since I installed the autopackage of Inkscape 0.45.1, I'm having problems with the text tool (I'm using Ubuntu "Breezy"). As soon as I invoke the text dialogue, Inskacpe closes with an error message saying that it experienced an internal error. I am able to change the font using the XML editor, but I would be glad to have access to the text dialogue box as well. My question: Does anybody know a solution for this, or do I have to wait until the next autopackage comes out? Aaron, Diederik, Terry and David, Thanks so much for your replies to my question about the technical drawing / snapping, and also for considering it seriously; I really appreciate it. I'd like to say that I really like the inkscape UI and I'm certainly not suggesting any substantial change in the way this works. What would be useful is if whenever inkscape asks the user to input a point (whether the translation origin of an existing object, start point of a new polyline, or centre of rotation etc.) some module could provide "constraints" which guide the placing of these points. Two current possibilities are the page grid / guidelines and the nodes which define the object itself. A third are "geometric" constraints which are defined by the objects themselves, things like "nearest", "endpoint", "centre", "perpendicular", "intersection". These make it very easy to ensure objects are actually touching, and also that technical sketches look right / symmetrical when they should. I think Terry's feature request sums it up (thanks for submitting this), but there are a couple of points which I might add if possible (I don't think I can add comments to it, so perhaps I have to submit a new one?) : - it can be useful to have multiple snaps turned on at once, e.g. endpoint and gridpoint, so if a line ends very close to a gridpoint it can be hard to tell which snap is in effect; this is where the change in cursor shape helps to distinguish one from the other (and a key like 'ALT' cycles between different possibilities valid at that 'pixel' on the screen). This would also be useful if a current inkscape "node" snap lies close to a "gridpoint" snap. - when selecting you don't always touch near the point you want to select; you touch the object which defines the constraint. That sounds a little confusing at first, but let me explain with an example ... ! Translations / rotations - lets say you have a series of concentric circles which form a wheel and you want to move this so the centre touches the end of an axle you have drawn elsewhere on the screen. Firstly you would select all objects to move and then the inkscape transform / translate tool. Then enable "centre" snap (press 'c') and hover above the outline of one circle (since the centre is an intrinsic property of that circle - inkscape would check which snaps are enabled and which shapes are within x pixels of the cursor and then display an appropriate snap for that position). In this case a snap symbol appears in the centre of the circle _even though the cursor is not close to here_ you click and pick the object up from it's centre. Inkscape presumably knows internally about the centre of circles, regular polygons, rectangles etc.. You then drag the object close to the axle and enable "endpoint" (press 'e') snap at which point the cursor jumps to the end of the axle and you click to place it there. This guarantees everything is perfectly aligned and touching regardless of zoom ! Obviously if you tried clicking _in_ the centre of the circle for a "centre" snap instead inkscape couldn't possibly know which object this centre related to. New objects - as previously said it's very useful to be able to guantee a new line touches tangentially to a circle, so you start drawing the line and when prompted for the second point hover over _anywhere over the circle outline_ and the snap jumps to the nearest point which is tangential. "Nearest" (point on object to cursor) snaps are probably harder because the points aren't discrete in quite the same way, but still allow you to gaurantee there are no gaps, even if drawing by eye, and then moving the final control point. As Terry said I think a key thing is that these are properties of the type of shape, and not always of the nodes of the shape itself. I've attached a screenshot of autosketch, just to show what I am used to (the square indicates the snap is locked to an endpoint even though it also matches a gridpoint snap). I certainly don't need CAD and miss many of the great inkscape features but drifted toward this kind of program because it was so easy to get everything lined up and touching. I've spoken to a few fellow postgrads, and we all think these are very useful features for technical illustration where we are used to CAD like snapping tools but miss the gradient fills / paint bucket etc. to make work look nice. One thing which may be of interest from the screenshot (although probably a little too cad like !) is the ability to define shapes in different ways. As in inkscape shapes are defined by a series of points (nodes on a curve, opposite corners in a rectangle), but if you hover over the appropriate tool (top left) it allows you to set different sets of these defining points. In the screenshot I'm over the circle tool and you can see that it may be defined by a centre and point on the circle, three points on the circle, two tangent lines etc. This again is very flexible. I hope this has made sense, and I hope I haven't muddied the water - I don't want to overcomplicate at all but it turns out this is a little more subtle once you think about it. I would love to hear any thoughts please ! This is certainly something which could be considered piecemeal - endpoint / midpoints / centres are doubtless easier than any others. Should I file a feature request saying all of this, or is it too indigestible? closing and quitting

'Scuse if this is a stoopid question, but if I want to close a file and work on another, I can use Ctrl+W to close but that actually closes the program, not just the file, it is the same effect as Ctrl+Q. So with a lot of files to process there is a lot of opening and closing the program, which is a pain. Is this just me? Am I missing something? Thanks in anticipation. Adam

Thanks for the response Ted. The version I'm using was downloaded from the sourceforge site - its version 0.45. I really know absolutely nothing about programming or code, :) I'm an artist, on the user side of the program. I think its a great tool - I use adobe illustrator on a daily basis, so there is probably a lot of stuff I'm looking for that just isn't in there yet. I haven't tried downloading any of the other versions yet, as I didn't know how I should be installing them - like I said clueless on that part of it. But thanks again - I think all who are working on this have done an awesome job. Having a bitmap trace function is the cats meow. This may depend on how your preview version of Inkscape was compile, and when it was built. It is a relatively recent addition, and requires ImageMagick to be installed on the machine building the package. Though, I don't see a filter for turning something to greyscale... it should be relatively easy to add. I'll ask Chris. --Ted

Compile problems in Linux

I tried to install the latest autopackage of Inkscape but it seems my glibc is too old (Requires GLIBC_2.4 - I have GLIBC_2.3.6 ... is it possible to release a GLIBC_2.3.6 autopackage?) and the package suggested I install from sources. When I try to compile the source, i get an error - ui/dialog/ocaldialogs.h:247: error: expected class-name before '{' token ui/dialog/ocaldialogs.h: In constructor 'Inkscape::UI::Dialog::FileListViewText::FileListViewText(guint, Inkscape::UI::Dialog::SVGPreview&, Gtk::Label&, Gtk::Button&)': ui/dialog/ocaldialogs.h:250: error: class 'Inkscape::UI::Dialog::FileListViewText' does not have any field named 'ListViewText' I use Debian Etch (stable) so it seems compiling myself is my best option but I have tried with about 5 different source packages and the result is always the same (the package which created this error was 16060 but it is still there in 16089). I have seen this same error in another forum but I can't find it and I didn't see a resolution so I apologise if it is already resolved. Are there any color conversion effects for raster images within inkscape? Or do I need to turn my tiff image into a grayscale image before I bring it into inkscape? Diederik, Thanks so much for your reply and it sounds as though 0.46 will be quite a release of inkscape with the basic snapping you mention and also the PDF import! After you mentioned the use of existing libraries, I remembered that the "open source" qcad (more cad oreintated than I need) supports some forms of snap, including the "midpoint" and "intersection". I'm no programmer, but I wondered if it might be possible to reuse these algorithms? I've taken a look online, and found a screenshot of the "snapping" on autocad (although too heavy for inkscape use, you may be interested to see); the cursor jumps and changes from the standard "crosshairs" to one of the shapes shown when that particular constraint is appropriate: http://www.cadtutor.net/acad/acad2ki/osnap/images/d-osnap1.gif Again many thanks

Scaling of traces taken from PNG bitmaps

I have a somewhat difficult graphics job to do in collaboration with another graphic artist who is using Corel Draw X3. I am using Inkscape as one of several tools to make up for some deficiencies in Corel Draw. One problem that Corel Draw has and that Inkscape shares (as far as I can tell, correct me if I am wrong) is that it is not very good at putting text on a curve. It can arrange the letters appropriately, and turn them to various angles so that the baseline of a character is tangent to the curve. What it cannot do is bend the characters to make them precisely follow the curve. This is not a huge problem for ordinary text fonts, but it is a severe limitation for some decorative dingbat fonts. Some of these fonts have characters that may have a width that is 10 times the height. To make these fit well on a curved object like a circle, they must bend to fit. Corel has another tool that can bend font characters around a curve - paint Shop Pro. Unfortunately, even several years after absorbing Jasc and taking over Paint Shop Pro, Corel's programmers have not made it possible to export vector drawings from Paint Shop Pro to Corel Draw. Only bitmaps can move from Paint Shop Pro to Corel Draw. In order to move my curved characters from Paint Shop Pro to Corel Draw, I must trace them into vectors. The problem here is that Corel Draw's trace is terrible. Enter Inkscape - Inkscape's trace is MUCH, MUCH better that Corel's. I export the drawings from Paint Shop Pro as 1200 pixels/inch PNG bitmaps and import them into Inkscape. Then I trace them. The traces are PERFECT (almost). Corel Draw should cringe with embarrassment. There is only one problem. Inkscape thinkks that the PNG bitmaps are done at 90 pixels/inch and produces traces that are exactly 13-1/3 times too large. How can I convince Inkscape that these are 1200 pixels/inch bitmaps so that the traces come out the right size?

Inkscape SVN, poppler and missing CairoOutputDev.h

Hi, I wanted to compile Inkscape form SVN the other day but compilation failed because the pdfinput plugin required the header file "CairoOutputDev.h". This header belongs to poppler but for some reason it doesn't install it. I then figured out that I hadn't actually compiled poppler with cairo output support, and was sure that recompiling it with that option enabled would solve it, but as it turns out, it didn't. I got Inkscape to compile only after I manually copied over the Cairo*.h headers from the Poppler source archive to /usr/include/poppler. It seems to me that after looking at the Makefile.am file (I don't know much about autotools though), this header isn't ever installed at all. Is this an error of Inkscape to depend on this header or is there something wrong with Poppler?

Image load from url

I would like to know if it is possible to load an image (element ) from url. I have tried it, but it doesn't work. It only work if I load the image from a local file. Help with Color Effects - Grayscale etc

Hi All, I have installed the new version of Inkscape and am having problems using the color conversion effects. If I open a bitmap image and choose - effects - color and any one of the color effects such as grayscale, python launches and nothing happens. Any suggestions? Gradient -> PDF?

Hello, If I save a PDF of a gradient filled circle, the gradient looks perfect in Linux Acrobat Reader (7.x IIRC) but in a more recent version of Acrobat Reader (8.1.0) on OS X and Apple's Preview.app, the gradient is a solid color. Does this occur in Windows versions of Acrobat Reader as well? Is there any solution to this other than resorting to a different filetype (e.g. bitmap)? Thanks, -TAG Todd A. Gibson

integrating new fonts in inkscape?

hi we have a great chance to use inkscape as a batch conversion tool to create eps from svg. unfortunately we use fonts in these svg's that does not seem to be supported by inkscape. is there any chance to (let) integrate new fonts in inkscape? inkscape does not seem to correctly display and use all fonts. background: we're generating thousends of svg files from an xslt process. for a proper publishing we need to add bounding box information to these svg or eps image files. inkscape seems to be the best solution we've found for a task like that. it should create eps or svg with correct bounding boxes around the images. the images contain only two lines of (very) short text. the fonts we're using are a bit exotical. any help is very appreciated. frank

Improved performance of the object snapper

Hello, The last few days I've spent on improving the performance of the object snapper. It used to take ages (e.g about 6 seconds on my machine) to move a simple rectangle over a large text box, but I've managed to reduce this significantly (i.e. < 1 sec.!). This was with both snapping to paths and snapping to nodes turned on. For this I had to refactor the object snapper code significantly, so I might have introduced new bugs or regressions. Please be aware of this and report any suspicious behavior, so we can have both fast and robust snapping in v0.46! Please note that the performance has only increased when using the selector tool for transforming a number of points, e.g. when dragging a selection. Using the node tool to drag a single node will not benefit from this. Now for those of you interested in some technical details: Before, for _every_ point in the selection being transformed (using the selector tool), Inkscape would search for snapping candidates, build a list of nodes and paths, and finally call convertWithBackData(). Only then would it snap this single point and start all over again for the next point in the selection. Now we only do this collecting and converting stuff once, store the results, and then snap all points in the selection (using the stored data). Not having to call convertWithBackData really helps a lot! I think that in many common cases this improves the performance dramatically. However, there might also be some (rare?) cases showing a performance decrease, because the number of candidates might be higher. Before we would search for candidates within range of a single point. Now we search for candidates within range of any of the snappoints in the selection, so our list of candidates is longer which gives us more combinations to check. I do think that this will not really be an issue, as this use case is less common and there's still a performance gain at the same time. Any feedback is appreciated! Regards, Diederik

displaying blur effect

Hi all Sorry to be a pain, I am sure this must have been asked before but can you tell me why my svg files with blur effect do not show the blur in e.g. Firefox 2.0.0.6? I uploaded a bit of clipart (of a crab) to the open clip art library and lost the blur, although it is preserved in an exported png file. I followed the directions from JonY to compile the SVN on Win32 (I know I don't really need to as the new win builds are perfect but I enjoy the challenge) and I keep hitting the same problem. Adobe Illustrator Export Option

According to Inkscape 0.45 release notes: "We only support AI import and export for Adobe Illustrator 8.0 and older. This has been clarified in the Open and Save As lists" The menu option does not appear under Windows. Any tips? I'm using inkscape 0.45.1

Hi all, this is not directly related to InkScape but I think is a news which will interest many people doing vector graphics on Windows. EmfPrinter 0.2.0 is out: http://emfprinter.sourceforge.net/ What is it? EmfPrinter is a virtual printer driver for Windows 2000 and higher (tested only on Windows XP so far), which allows you to create EMF (Enhanced Meta File) vector images from any Windows application which supports printing. The nice things about this virtual printer are: 1. it's Open Source: free as in freedom! 2. it exports data directly in a vector format, without rasterizations; for more info about raster vs vector formats, please see the Wikipedia 3. very easy to install and use (and also to uninstall actually!) =============================== Why EMF? Why export printed data in EMF instead of another vector format, much more widespread like SVG? It's simple: the Windows GDI printing system provides data to the printer drivers directly in EMF format; thus it's "easy" to extract EMFs from printed data using a virtual printer driver. EMF is a undocumented format (for the few reverse-engineered infos look here) which however is very easy to render on Windows and is supported by all programs of the Microsoft Office suite and many others. Problems with gcc from modevia

Hi, I noticed a problem with the MingW package (mingw-4.2.0-070518.7z) provided by inkscape.modevia.com. This also happens if gcc is executed from places other than C:\mingw. This may introduce serious inconsistencies for Windows SVN testers with previously installed MinGW while debugging new builds. Before the bashing begins, I already RTFM and written an ugly patch for it which involves passing -nostdinc -nostdinc++ to workaround drive space limitations on my machine. It would probably break automated builds, so I would avoid posting the patch here unless requested. Any advice for better workarounds?

Need help using Render Gears tool

Hi, I've been using a r15987 svn build on Windows. What i've done is: 1. Use Bezier tool to draw some straight lines with a few 90(more or less) degree turns. 2. Convert to path. 3. Effects --> Render --> Gear So far, it only creates one "gear" from the selected set of path. I may be doing it wrong, if so, how should I use the gears tool?

Tweak tool: soften mode

Hi, I've just downloaded the 20070830 windows build of Inkscape and while playing with the tweak tool the first thing I wanted after using the roughen mode was a soften mode, something like a localized simplify path. The only problem I see with simplify path is that used after roughen leaves some disconnected nodes, like speckels. Anyway, great tool and excellent work yo're doing with Inkscape. Perspective effect fix for openSUSE 10.2 users

Awhile back I posted about not being able to get the perspective effect working on my openSUSE 10.2 system. No one replied back to me. Probably because it didn't look like an easy fix or perhaps I'm the only opneSUSE user. Anyway, I stumbled across a post somewhere on the Internet and turned up a repo specifically for openSUSE 10.2 users with the required packages to get the perspective effect to work. This is the error that I was getting when trying to use the perspective effect with python-numpy, blas, and lapack that was installed on my system: File “”, line 1, in File “/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/numpy/__init__.py”, line 43, in import linalg File “/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/numpy/linalg/__init__.py”, line 4, in from linalg import * File “/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/numpy/linalg/linalg.py”, line 25, in from numpy.linalg import lapack_lite ImportError: /usr/lib/libblas.so.3: undefined symbol: _gfortran_st_write_done Here’s the issue: “This is certainly because of a mismatch the compiler used for numpy and blas/lapack. I checked the rpm you are using, and it looks like whereas blas and lapack are compiled with gfortran, python-numpy is compiled with g77. I do not use opensuse myself, but started a project to provide binaries for numpy/scipy for this distribution: most of the packages like blas and lapack are broken on this platform (I really wonder if there was any testing of those packages by the packagers).” This was posted by a fellow name “David”. This guy has a repo with blas, lapack, and numpy specifically for openSUSE 10.2 users. The STC Chapter Technical Communications Competitions, Washington DC

Hi everyone, I have an announcement. Besides being an Inkscape user, I'm also a technical writer. As such, I'm also a member of the Society for Technical Communication (STC), a nonprofit organization. I belong to their Washington, DC Chapter. It just so happens that the DC Chapter of the STC is looking for submissions to their annual Technical Communications Competitions. Actually, there are three competitions in all: Online Communication Technical Art Technical Publications For each competition there are a number of categories in which you can enter your artwork (more than one if you wish). For the Technical Art Competition, there are 17 categories. They range from Mechanical Illustration to Interpretative Illustration to Promotional Materials Design. As you can see, for Inkscape users, this is right up our alley as long as the entry is technical in nature. There are three levels of awards in each category: Distinguished Technical Communication (DTC) Excellence Merit In addition, one DTC winner in each competition wins Best Of Show. So, there are many chances to win. Also, you don't have to be a member of STC or its DC chapter to enter. In fact, you don't even have to live in the US. The chapter frequently receives entries from other countries. The main deal is that they must be written in English. In any case, if you think you have a design, illustration, poster, or other artwork you think is award quality, think about submitting it. NEW: four more modes in Tweak tool

Of the four new modes, two are for editing path shapes (Attract and Repel) and two are for coloring objects (Color Paint and Color Jitter) . I also renamed Melt to Shrink and Inflate to Grow as discussed before. * The Attract and Repel modes work by moving each affected point on a path towards (Attract) or from (Repel) the cursor point. In some cases this may look similar to Shrink and Grow, but the difference is that shrinking/growing moves paths perpendicularly to the path in each point, whereas attracting/repelling moves them to or from the cursor regardless of the path shape. These modes are similar to the Pinch effect in ; you can use them for various central-symmetric distortions in parts of your paths. Color-changing modes The Color Paint and Color Jitter modes, unlike the path editing modes, change the colors of objects instead of their shapes. Yet they share enough common features with the path-changing modes to be part of the same tool: These modes also use a circular soft-edged brush controlled by the Width and Force parameters on the Controls bar and affected by the pen pressure (if you have a pressure-sensitive tablet). * Color Paint applies the style of the tool to the selected objects under the brush. The style of the tool is visible in the style swatch at the rightmost end of the tool's control bar; it can be changed by clicking on the color palette or by any other style assignment command, such as Fill and Stroke dialog. (Note: unlike all other tools, in Tweak tool in Color Paint mode you cannot assign style directly to selected objects; any style-setting command changes the tool's style instead.) The fill from the tool's style applies to the fills of the painted objects, and the stroke applies to the strokes. If the tool's style has no fill or no stroke, it won't affect fills or strokes, correspondingly. For example, if you want to color the fills of objects blue but leave their strokes untouched, assign blue fill to the tool's style (just click blue on the palette) but set its stroke to None (middle-click the Stroke swatch in the statusbar). Similarly, master opacity in the tool's style This mode allows you to literally paint over objects, shifting their colors towards the target style of the tool. For example, if you paint with yellow fill over a blue-filled object, the object will become greenish blue, then green, then yellowish green, and end up being exactly the green color you're painting with. This speed of this gradual transition depends on the Force and pen pressure; also, objects touched by the periphery of the brush are less affected than those hit by the brush center. Overall, using this tool is very similar to a soft brush in a raster editor such as Gimp or Photoshop. * Color Jitter mode does not apply any color, but instead jitters (randomizes) the colors of the objects it touches. The force of the action determines how strong is the randomization, i.e. how far the colors deviate from the original values. This mode does not use the tool's style. Both modes work on flat fills and gradients; for gradients, the tool takes into account not only the position of the entire object with gradient, but also the position of each gradient stop relative to the brush. This means that, for example, you can change the blue color only in an object filled with blue-red gradient simply by painting over its blue end with a brush small enough to not touch the red. Channels Color Paint and Color Jitter honor the Channels control. This control comprises the four buttons: H, S, L, and O, which allow you to turn on and off the tool's action on the object's hue, saturation, lightness, and opacity, correspondingly. For example, if you want to raise the saturation of some part of your drawing without changing the hue, select some maximum-saturation color (e.g. pure red) and turn off all Channels buttons except S. Similarly, you can replace the hues without affecting saturation or lightness (only H pressed), or lighten/darken all colors without changing their hues and saturation (only L pressed). Pressing O allows you to apply the master opacity from the tool's style to the master opacity of objects (but not fill or stroke opacity). Usage notes Color painting with Tweak tool is similar, but not exactly analogous to bitmap painting. Even though the tool itself works as a soft brush, it still applies its color to vector objects, which behave as vector objects usually do. For example, if you want to change the tint of the face in your drawing, and if a hand in the drawing is part of the same object as the face, that hand will change its tint too even if it's located far from the point you are painting. (We foresee a "fracture" command in one of the next versions of Inkscape which will help you turn a monolithic object into a mosaic of small fragments that will be then easy to paint with Tweak tool.) Still, even with this limitation, color painting is a novel way of dealing with vector drawings which allows you to quickly and intuitively make adjustments which would be awkward and slow with traditional approach. Drawings containing patterns or scatterings of small independent objects are best suited for color painting with Tweak tool. Examples include: * freehand drawings with Calligraphy pen, consisting of many separate strokes; * gradient meshes imported from Adobe Illustrator files (Inkscape renders these meshes as lattices of small polygons; while there's no direct support for gradient meshes in Inkscape yet, color painting on such lattices is almost as good); * text converted to paths and with Break Apart command applied so that each letter is a separate path; * patterns made with the Tile Clones command; note that you need to unset the fill and/or stroke on the original object and use the Color tab to assign some initial color to the clones - this will make them paintable with the Tweak tool without unlinking. Moreover, color tweaking can be useful for compositions with a few objects or even for single objects. Unlike all other color selection methods, painting with the Tweak tool implements the color mixing metaphor which is much more familiar to traditional artists than RGB sliders or even the color wheel. For example, start with a rectagle of pure blue color; then, pick different colors by Color Paint and apply light touches with minimum Force and minimum pen pressure: add a little green, a little brown, a little yellow, etc. until you have the exact hue you need. Similarly, you can whiten or blacken any hue by admixing white or black. You can also use color tweaking to add a tint, darken/lighten, saturate/desaturate, or color jitter your entire drawing. Just select all in all layers, zoom out, choose a large brush width so it covers all of the drawing, and apply a little color tweaking (with minimum Force) that will therefore affect all visible objects. -- bulia byak Inkscape. Newbie question about tiled clones

I'm trying to do what should be a simple cloning job and I don't understand the tiled clones dialogue. I need to do something similar to the twelve-stars-in-a-circle described in the Tricks subsection of the Tiling section of the user manual. I need to do the following: I have a circle. Inside the circle I draw an arrow, with the blunt end of the arrow just below the center of the circle and the pointed end of the arrow near the perimeter of the circle, so that the arrow is pointing straight down. I need to clone the arrow twice, so that the final result is three arrows radiating from the center of the circle, evenly spaced at 120 degrees.

Inkscape is a staff pick at Apple downloads

Hello everyone, Looking for something else I just passed cross this on Apple's site: Inkscape is marked as staff pick by Apple currently. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/unix_open_source/index_sp.html I don't remember that it was before so that's great news, given that the interface is X11 (which Mac users typically don't like), and not very pretty by default (which mac users usually care much about). However it seems to be a little lower in the most downloaded counts: it was in top 10 and is now 17. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/unix_open_source/index_top.html But no doubt that the 0.46 release will bring all that up. Congratulations anyway. I've some GTK themes which look OK when integrated with OS X. Now if someone could tell me how to use GTK2_RC_FILES I'll be glad to try and use them in Inkscape. Text Anti-aliasing

Hello! In Adobe Photoshop, you are able to adjust the text anti-aliasing level (strong, smooth, crisp, none). Useful for simulating web page designs (in which live text is not AAed). Does something like that exsist in Inkscape now or under construction in any future build? (if GIMP or other programs can do it, feel free to mention that to me) Thank you!

I use Slackware but Slack doesn't come with certain necessary libraries. So I am going to set up another partition just for Inkscape, Scribus etc. I can go Debian, Ubuntu, Mandriva, whatever.
