Hi to all, I'm very happy with Inkscape's features, but missing one: How can I switch view to pixel 1:1? When I import image e.g. 200x100px, I can't see it 1:1. Would be very useful for web design development. thanx anyway :) Michal

Grid and adjustment

Sorry if "adjustment" is not the word here, I'm translating from Spanish. If not, I refer to the magic that snaps the cursor to the grid when resizing an object, or creating a new one, for example. The issue is the following: in a previous version (.38), I used to switch the grid on and off with "#" (vry, very handy) and with the grid, also I was switching on and off the "adjustment". This way, I could work always with the grid & snap, but when wanted to draw freely I just switched with "#". Now, with "#" the only thing that goes on and off is the grid, but not the "adjustment" (it adjusts to nothing, because the grid is not drew, but it still adjusts). This is very annoying to me, because to be able to work freely and back, and need to go the config, change the settings, and then again to go back. Is this intended or a bug? I'm not really a heavy user but I love Inkscape. I have a friend I mentioned Inkscape to and while we were having a look at it he asked if there was a way to split an svg document in pages. Inkscape 0.40 - error importing AI files

When I am importing .AI files this error message appears: ** (inkscape:9542): CRITICAL **: file document.cpp: line 511 (void sp_document_set_uri(SPDocument*, const gchar*)): assertion `document != NULL' failed Pleas help, how can I solve it? I have thousand .AI files which I could open in 0.39. Is downgrade only one solution? (OS: Gentoo unstable, same expirience with self compiled inkscape 0.40cvs and 0.40 stable in Slackware current) Thanks Martin Grohman

On the other hand, for someone who *wants* his postscript to print sideways, because there is no other way to fit it on the page, there is a clear workaround: use Inkscape to rotate the picture.

After upgrading to 0.40, I have some good news and some bad news about PostScript output. The good news is that the files that I couldn't output with 0.38 can now be output to create valid PS or EPS files. The bad news is that they're rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise! Does anyone understand what's going on here? Here is the SVG file in question: http://www.lightandmatter.com/boat-1.svg When I output it as EPS, and then run it through the standard epstopdf script (I think it comes with tetex, and I think it's just a wrapper around Ghostscript), it's rotated (as viewed in xpdf). I can of course submit this as a bug report on Sourceforge, but I'm wondering if there's something else I'm not understanding here.

Publishing and Inkscape Portability

Congrats on the progress with Inkscape, many of us Illustrator/Cdraw users are experimenting and following the progress of the project. I have a few comments if anyone is interested (By no means am I a professional GA/GD): 1) I noticed some important features that I use are not fully implemented: object locking and hiding (try unlocking or unhiding an object) and moving objects to different layers (layers is very new already for inkscape). 2) I would like to see as part of a FAQ on using Inkscape amongst Illustrator users. Howto import/export documents between the two and the problems we might have (things to avoid). What format is best (seems EPS and SVG work partially in different ways). 0.40 has ability to save as .ai but gives me an error message on saving so I don't know how good it works. Illustrator has heaps of options to save/export files - anyone worked out which work best? I will share anything i discover on the way. 3) The FAQ could also give suggestion on preperation of documents for printing (professional printers that is) ie. text convert to outlines, colour/file formats usually preferred etc etc. It seems printing and exporting as bitmap avoids loss of my effects (transperancies etc). Printing postscript doesn't work too well in that respect. Alex
