Problem compiling inkscape

Hi I am trying to build inkscape 0.40 on Ubuntu from source and during the configuration run i get the message error: Cannot find freetype-config What is freetype-config and how to solve this problem j.mak

Bryce, I tried several of the 0.40 release packages, but I did not find a Windows Executable file. Is there a .exe available for the 0.40 release yet? Thanks for all the hard work.
