Hi list,
I tried to export my drawing to pdf filetype. I attached the way it is
and the way it exports in pdf filetype.
I didn't noticed it before. What I did wrong people ?

Autosave and "lost connection to X server"
by Phil Endecott
Dear All,
Does Inkscape have an autosave feature? I thought not, but searching
finds some oblique references to such a thing. Generally I have found
Inkscape reliable enough that autosave is not necessary, but I've just
lost about 40 minutes work with this message:
The application 'inkscape' lost its connection to the display :0.0;
most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
the application.
Any idea what's going on there? It could be that the fault is with the
X server, which suggests that Inkscape needs autosave even if it is
itself bug-free!
One of the search results for "inkscape autosave" mentions something
about autosave in response to SEGV and similar. Perhaps what's
necessary is for an unexpected X server disconnection to be treated in
the same way.
Cheers,
Phil.

There was a bug in this, resulting in unstable behavior, which I just
fixed. Now it strictly sticks to the two straight line segments' from
the dragged node and their perpendiculars (which may be 2 or 4
directions in total, depending on whether the segments are
perpendicular or not).

Inkscape on Spanish / Inkscape en Español
by Juan Miguel Ramirez
First I want to thank you (developers, translators, designers, etc) for
your brilliant effort to improve Inkscape.
I'm a designer, member of differents free software associations like
Iniciativa Focus <http://www.iniciativafocus.org> or Linux-Malaga
<http://www.linux-malaga.org> who some time ago chose to bet for free
software like present and future on the world of graphic's design. Until
now i only have contributed to the inkscape's community with some works
and designs and some presentations and workshops around Spain: 2ª
Jornadas Tecnológicas Andaluzas de Software Libre
<http://jtasl.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=52&Itemid=99>(How
to begin to design with free software: Inkscape and Gimp), Congreso
Hispalinux 2005 <http://congreso.hispalinux.es>(Collaborative design
with Inkscape) and Jornadas de Software Libre de Linux Malaga 2006
<http://jornadas.linux-malaga.org> (How to begin to vectorial
illustration and make websites and corporate identities with Inkscape).
Even though i want to promote inkscape on spanish and help with this task.
This is the cause i want to help not only the project itself but to look
for more interested people (there is some volunteers on the spanish's
mailing list).
I would to do it officially through the website because do it apart it
would harmful for all and this is all i propose:
* Translate the entire website (there is some parts without
translations):
o Translate all the news (old an new)
o Translate the FAQ
o Translate all the documentation (nowdays there is only
translated the tutorials that comes with the program)
o Translate Tools Section
* Translate the interface (nowdays it is at 100% but i think the new
version has going to have new terms)
* Translate the mailing list(there is a spanish's mailing list but
when you, for example, have to register all the messages are on
english)
* Generate new content for the website:
o Create new tutorials
o Create a planet inkscape on spanish
o Insert new screenshots
o Insert new elements into the gallery (illustrations,
designs, etc)
* Improve Inkscape's website trying to do it more autonomous on
certain aspect (for example users can upload new designs, news, etc
even though has to be supervised by another)
To do all this i need to know who are the people in charge of the
differents sections (i think it would be useful to create a section with
the differents names and mails to contact them) and begin to coordinate
with them on how we can do all this. (some sections like galleries,
screenshots, some tutorials, presentations, etc are already made)

And now on Spanish ...

NEW: node sculpting
by bulia byak
http://www.inkscape.org/screenshots/gallery/inkscape-0.44-nodesculpting.png
An entirely new way of manipulating paths in Node tool is added in
this version: Node sculpting. Normally, when you have several nodes
selected and you drag one of them, all selected nodes move by the same
amount. Now, if you Alt-drag one of the selected nodes, only that node
is fully displaced; other selected nodes are moved less than the full
amount, so that those farthest from the drag point remain stationary.
So, for example, if you select several nodes on a straight line and
Alt+drag the middle selected node, the path will bend into a smooth
bell-like curve. Nodes' handles are also adjusted correspondingly to
keep the overall shape smooth and natural. (If you don't have enough
nodes on a path fragment that you want to reshape in this way, just
select the end nodes of that fragment and press Ins a few times to
populate it with nodes.)
Moreover, node sculpting is sensitive to pressure of your tablet pen.
If you press slightly, your curve will have a narrow sharp tip (i.e.
the nearest neighbors of your dragged node will move only a bit); if
you press hard, the curve's tip will be wide and blunt (i.e. the
nearest neighbors will move almost as much as the dragged node).
(Hint: to stop dragging without losing your shape, first release Alt
and then lift the tip of the pen.)
There are many possible applications of the sculpting technique. To
take a simple example, selecting all nodes of an ellipse-like shape
and Alt+dragging one of them will smoothly and naturally stretch and
skew the entire shape in any direction. Doing the same to a complex
path, such as star or spiral, will twist and punch it without
destroying its intricate structure - this is the way to get squashed
or self-intersecting stars, eccentric spirals and other shapes not
easily doable before. Selecting only part of all nodes allows you to
smoothly reshape parts of the figure without disturbing the rest.
Especially useful node sculpting is for complex natural paths, such as
calligraphic strokes or bitmap traces, where you often want to do
large-scale pushes and bends without destroying the small-scale
features. Things like making a calligraphic stroke narrower in one
place and wider in another, or extending the ear or flattening the
nose of a head, or any other reshaping of complex paths - all this is
now much faster and more natural to do using sculpting. Starting from
en ellipse with added nodes, it takes just a few Alt+drags to tweak it
into a silhouette of a head, or a map of Australia, or an Inkscape
logo!

extensions problem (extensions-error.log)
by Khiraly
Hi!
I have just discovered, that there is an extensions-error.log file, and
for this reason many extensions are not working.
So I have installed the following debian packages:
apt-get install pstoedit
apt-get install libwmf-bin
apt-get install transfig
apt-get install skencil (this was the biggest, it installed 12MB
additional packages: blt python2.3-imaging python2.3-imaging-tk
python2.3-tk skencil)
So the error log file reduced for the followings:
Extension "DXF Input" failed to load because a dependency was not met.
Dependency::
type: executable
location: path
string: dxf2svg
description: dxf2svg may come with Inkscape, but is also at
http://dxf-svg-convert.sourceforge.net/
I have installed inkscape from source via debian commands. And I dont
find any dxf2svg file.
Is this extension supposed to be in inkscape source?
However the following extensions are not working for me:
render->function plotter (no error message)
render->latex formulas
pstoedit: version 3.44 / DLL interface 108 (build Mar 11 2006 - release

Building on Ubuntu (Was: Re: [Inkscape-user] NEW: node sculpting)

I built the CVS version so I could play with node sculpting.
I'm running the latest Dapper. All dependencies are there. When I went
to install, the libglitz package was broken (but present), so I
downloaded the deb from a Debian repo and manually installed it. Since
it's a pretty important package, I can only assume it will be fixed
before Dapper is stable.
Apt-get insall automake installed version 1.4, but versions 1.4-1.9
are present in the repos, so it was just a matter of telling it to get
the right one, and pointing the automake symlink to the right place.
I do have universe and multiverse repositories enabled, but I think
everything came from main.
> have you ever tried using the autopackage builds? i didn't have much
> luck with them.
This was my first time ever building Inkscape. I like the idea of
autopackages (1 package, all distros. Yay!)...but have never used it
yet.
