Inkscape Announces 0.45 Release http://www.inkscape.org :: Draw Freely. The Inkscape community today announces the newest version of its vector graphic drawing software. Inkscape 0.45 features a new Gaussian Blur SVG filter. Sponsored by Google's Summer of Code program, Gaussian Blur allows you to softly and naturally blur any Inkscape objects, including shapes, text, and images. This enables a wide range of photorealistic effects: arbitrarily shaped shades and lights, depth of field, drop shadows, glows, etc. Also, blurred objects can be used as masks for other objects to achieve the "feathered mask" effect. Numerous other new features, enhancements to existing features, and bug fixes have been included. A history dialog allows you to browse your change history. Many new extension effects are added including Pattern along Path and Color Effects. There have been performance improvements to rendering speed, on the order of 2-3% in general, and up to 5-10% for drawings using heavy transparency and/or radial gradients. Compositing quality is also improved through the removal of banding seen in gradients. The project is now working on the upcoming 0.46 release which will focus on the initial stages of adding SVG animation support, increasing the apps PDF functionality, and other refactoring tasks. On a global scale, Inkscape is pushing for version 0.50 to have full compatibility with SVG Mobile/Tiny. Then, the ultimate large goal is to get to Inkscape 1.0 which will be a fully W3C SVG 1.1 compliant application. About Screen in 0.45pre1

I am running the prerelease from yesterday, and it looks pretty good. One minor thing is the about screen is not quite right. The text "Inkscape 0.45" does not appear in the same font (since I probably don't have the same font as the designer). Turning it into a shape would fix this. Also the glow under the second ball back cuts off where it should fade nicely. (See attachment) Good luck on release. -axiom

Inkscape 0.45-pre3 released

There were several packaging issues discovered with pre2, so I've posted one more pre-release. There are also a few bug fixes included; see the NEWS file for details. Manipulate nodes from two objects

Is there a way to manipulate nodes from multiple objects simultaneously? Definition of divergence in sprial tool?

I am trying to create logarithmic spirals for illustrating many of the spirals in nature, but I am having a hard time translating from the "divergence" to any meaningful factor used to specify the spiral. If Divergence =1 it expands in equal increments, but what is the definition of Divergence = 2 or any other amount? I was hoping it would produce a logarithmic spiral (increasing by the same factor for each turn), but from measurements this does not appear to be the case. Any insight on this? By the way, if the spiral with divergence >1 is NOT a logarithmic spiral, that feature should be added. In a logarithmic spiral the angle between the radius and the tangent line at any point on the spiral is a constant. It can be specified mathematically as r = a*e^(k*theta).
