exporting slices as boxes

Hi! I've made some graphics for web pages with inkscape, but I find hard to export certain areas. For example, I have a Box, a rounded corener one, that should be exported in three vertical slices, the middle one, will be repeated as a background latter. The point is I make a rectagle surrounding the area I want to export, then, I lower transparency to 0%, so the box won't be exported, but the drawing inside its area (this box has no stroke). Then when I want to select this "ghost" box, it's gone! If I select an area that contains the box, there it is, but, no simle way to select just _that_ box. Any suggestion? I think that maybe the search box may help, but I don't undesrtand how it works. Thanks in advance. Nahuel

Wow... does that mean that at some point in the future a SVG file imported in Scribus will import a colour in the CMYK space? If so big thanks to all involved in this. Compiling on Win32

Oops.... who woulda thought 'send' had a keyboard shortcut? Here is my complete question.... I followed the directions from JonY to compile the SVN on Win32 (I know I don't really need to as the new win builds are perfect but I enjoy the challenge) and I keep hitting the same problem. When I run 'g++ buildtool.cpp -o btool' I get a string of errors starting with - buildtool.cpp:53:18: error: string: No such file or directory buildtool.cpp:54:15: error: map: No such file or directory buildtool.cpp:55:15: error: set: No such file or directory buildtool.cpp:56:18: error: vector: No such file or directory followed by a lot more that seem to be related to these initial errors. I found the files in question in C:\mingw4\include\c++\4.2.0 but I have no idea how to make g++ see them. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Thanks, Tony

Letterspacing Keycommands under Linux

I've spent a full day trying to figure out why the letter-spacing and line-height commands (Alt+<, Alt+>) are not working under Linux. I'm running OpenSuSE 10.2, with Inkscape 0.45.1, but no matter what I do, the only thing Alt+< does is put commas and periods in my text. I tried the text section Inkscape Advanced tutorial. Manual kerning shortcuts work (Alt+arrows), but letter-spacing (Alt+<, Alt+>) and line height (Control+Alt+<, Control+Alt+>) do not work, it only places commas or periods, as if the shortcut didn't exist. Outside of text edit mode, Alt+< and Alt+> perform a uniform scaling. I've already changed my GNOME Keybindings away from using ALT as a modifier (it was conflicting with Maya). I've checked the default.xml keys file and I don't see any mention of an action for letterspacing/line height, so it doesn't seem like I can change it. And I tested 0.45.1 under Windows and the commands work perfectly fine. I'm thinking it could be the build, but I doubt it - it was installed via the autopackage from the Inkscape website. I would gladly appreciate some help on this situation! Thank you!

broken perspective effect

I have just formatted my computer and reloaded opensuse 10.2. I have everything put back together and that includes Inkscape v0.45-1 (inkscape-0.45.1-2.guru.suse102.rpm). However, I have run into a brick wall with the perspective effect. It seems a long time ago I had a similar problem but I cannot for the life of me figure out what I did to fix it. Not even sure if it's the same error. I have attached a pic of the error that I am getting. I have python-numeric-24.2-36 and python-numpy-1.0.3.1-0.pm.1 installed. An 'rpm -q python' results with python-2.5-19.4 if that helps. Hmm... heathenx

svn needs files not installed by poppler

Hello! I start this as a new thread to avoid misunderstanding and to give it a better titel for others to find answers easier. It's basically what I posted in "[Inkscape-user] When is the next version due?". I have a linux from scratch. gtk 2.10.13, poppler-0.5.91. svn inkscape Revision: 15884. I do ./autogen.sh; configure; make. Configure is happy with my system and also with my poppler-0.5.91. poppler-0.5.91 has the header files that can't be found during inkscape make but these seem to be headers only for compilation of poppler or poppler at least does not install them. Telling inkscape configure about the sources of poppler helps but then the make gets stuck because some includes in the poppler-headers are local ones which then of course don't resove. I couldn't find any hint about some special poppler install in the docs but as it is brand new developpment docs are often behind. I just wonder if and then how someone made a complete make with poppler used with current svn so far? Regards, Lynx

How do I do 'Power clips' (or Feature request)?

Hi I used to work in Corel draw 7.0 (now seven years old) before switching to inkscape. However there was one very powerful feature that I can't seem to emulate in inkscape: the so called 'Power clip'. In Corel Draw you could place any object inside another object. For example I could design a complex vector drawing and then have the place the whole thing inside a circle so it's clipped as though I'm looking through a port-hole. You could even nest multiple power clips inside one another. Is there some way to achieve this in inkscape? I know you can use object->pattern but that doesn't allow for fine control of positioning one object inside the other and it necessarily tiles the interior object. If there is no easy way of doing this I would like to make a feature request. It's a really powerful tool and Corel draw had it seven years ago! Thanks to the developers for an awesome program :).
