Shape Tool

I have opened a map in Inkscape, and I want to draw several stars to mark points on the map where attractions may be found. I choose the star shape tool from the tool bar, put the cursor on the spot where I want to put the first star, click and drag. It draws a star, but some distance from the point where I want it, and not a predictable distance or direction from where I put the cursor. Then I tried to select it in order to move it to the point where I want it, by clicking on it with the selection tool. It won't select. If I leave it selected after drawing it, I can't drag it where I want it. If I copy it and paste it, it pastes under the point where the word "paste" was in the edit dialog. How is this supposed to work? -Joe Ward

Tool pointer pixmaps

I've uploaded some improved (imho) pixmaps for the tool pointers in this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/325145 --- The changes are: - Tweaked the appearance of 3dbox and eraser - added crosshairs to connector and bucket fill - new icon for bucket fill - Unified the appearance of pen and pencil tools - Unified the size and position of the color dropper icon The icons had different sizes and positions relative to the crosshairs, so I tried to unify that. Now the modified icons fit in a 26x26 square at the upper left of the total area (32x32) so there is space in the bottom left for potential modified versions (for instance adding a + sign for addition, like the gradient tool has). Some icons (bucket fill, color dropper and connector) have a slightly different hotspots now, so they'll have to be adjusted. There are others that can be adjusted, but with these changes at least the set is more homogenous in size and style. The pen icon for the bezier tool is in my opinion confusing, since the pen icon in the UI is assigned to the calligraphic tool. Nobody seems to matter, though. ---- The only change needed is to check and correct the tool hostpot in some of them, but I guess that would be a trivial change (that I don't know how to perform :-) What do you think?

Transform stroke into path

Hi, Is there a way to transform a stroke into a path? eg you create a shape, with a stroke. Then you want to remove parts of the stroke. Cutting the shape simply creates the stroke again around the modified shape, i would like to have the path created by the stroke as an object by itself. cedric

Hey All, With the About Screen Contest for 0.47 underway, one of the easiest things we all can do to help is to spread the word via social networking means. Whether it be blogging, tweeting (or RTs), posting on forums, you name it... the more of us that talk about, the more attention it will get. This contest PR effort could prove to be a good test of some of the needed PR mechanisms to make the announcement of 0.47 (when it is released) as loud, far reaching, and relevant as possible. So, again... the announcement which needs to be shown love (digg style button, yes it requires registration like digg) is here: http://news.deviantart.com/article/79268/ The more people that show the article love, the more people it will end up attracting the attention of on DA (which is important since it is the largest online art community/potential userbase). Want to help get us new users? This alone is one of the most effective methods. Special Bug Hunt Spree this weekend (May 9-10)!

Hey All, As mentioned in the proposed release schedule, this weekend, May 9-10 we will have a special effort to squash as many bugs as possible in a 48 hour period. If you can make time to participate it would be greatly appreciated by all. Even if you aren't a programmer, you can help to confirm that bugs are indeed fixed by others. Dates: May 9-10 Place: #inkscape on Freenode (or Jabber for the cool kids ;)) Goal: Fix at least a quarter of our goal of 500pts (125pts in 2 days). Trouble with kerning

Hello, I can't seem to adjust the kerning in text. I've been able to adjust it in the past (alt + arrows), but now it just won't work. I'm using Vista OS. Any thoughts on how I can fix this problem? Thank you. Julie

Printing PDF files - problem

Inkscape 0.46 Ubuntu 8.1 Does anyone have a suggestion When I print to file (PDF) the system always produces 2 pages, even if I set the print range at "1" Is this an Inkscape problem or how Cairo handles the output? I have tried putting a small image in the centre of the page, just in case something was spilling over, and get the same result With thanks Terry
