Just an absolute newbie running Inkscape 0.48.2 in a well working, really beautiful, vintage declared but loved computer (2.1 GHz PowerPC G5 & Mac OS X.5.8). To get Previews from the Open Clip Art Library*, it is needed to be registered at the openclipart.org site and fill up the user account data in the Inkscape Preferences**? * File > Import from Open Clip... ** Import/Export > Open Clip Art Library Username & Password. Inkscape svg vs. plain svg.

Inkscape continues to default to a font not on my system (Xubuntu 14.04)

I'm running Inkscape 0.91 on xubuntu 14.04 64-bit. After a fresh install, every time I try to use the font tool, it defaults to the "Sans" font. I don't have this font on my computer. The red circle with the white exclamation in the font selection dropdown tells me that Inkscape knows that "Sans" isn't on my computer. The only way that I could get the font that I wanted was to type out the text and then change the properties afterwards. I finally fixed it by going to the Preferences window, Text screen, and selecting the "Last used style" radio button under "Style of new objects" But if I go back to "This tool's own style" it defaults to the last font selected, regardless of what font I select before placing the cursor. Selecting the "Last used style" option corrects the problem for me. I am not sure if the font getting stuck on one font issue is more than just my system, if it's functioning as designed, or if it is a clue to a potential bug in the application. Just wanted to raise the issue, just in case. Thanks, Greg

Tesselation lines in svg

Hi, I use Octave [1] to generate plots as svg files and rework them later in Inkscape (0.48.4 in linux mint 17). As Octave uses opengl as its primary graphics renderer, polygons are always tessellated into smaller triangles. Unfortunately the boundary between triangles is visible on screen in Inkscape (see the attached simple plot). This is also true if I simply draw 2 triangles that have a common boundary, i.e. using "snap to grid" to ensure edges have the exact same coordinates: I can see a white boundary line on screen (and in pdf/eps outputs) between the two triangles. Is there a workaround in Inkscape? Does svg specification have a flag that tels the viewer something like "don't draw boundaries"? Thanks, Pantxo [1] https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/

cannot do characters for text?

I am used to make some text characters with the Alt+0169 © But you can't do that in inkscape. Is there another way to do that? For now I do it in another program, and copy the symbol over. Thanks

GLowing Text and version

How can I make the text glow / highlight ? I tried one of the filters (Glow) but that isn't doing much) I want to use the text for a buton, and when someone presses the button, I want to see it all highlighted.. Thank you Ps. I am working with version 0.9.1 64 bit and it seems to slow, and crashing a lot (just quits) Is 0.48 better to use ? since all the videos I can find , seems to be all done with 0.4.8

Automatic replacement of ss

Hi all, I'm using Inkscape 0.91 on Ubuntu 12.04. With some fonts, when entering a double s ("ss") in a text block, it is automatically replaced with a sharp s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%9F). However, sharp s is always incorrect spelling in Switzerland. This problem appears with all fonts of the ADF family and with Verana, but not with many others. I suppose this is an Inkscape feature.
