Troubles with object to pattern

Hi folk ! Sometimes I have got a problem copying/pasting objects filled with a pattern, into other Svg documents. a) I copy the object 1 of doc1, filled with the pattern A correspondig to the file alfa.png b) I paste the object 1 into doc2. In doc2 pattern A corresponds to the file beta.png c) the result is : I see object 1 filled with the pattern beta.png, (Inkscape 0.45) Ross

stroke tracing CAD data (for black-and-white line illustration)?

I am working in the manufacturing industry. SolidWorks is part of the tools available for technical illustration. Therefore I´m very keen on finding a way of passing geometric CAD data (just line drawings) into Inkscape. Via DXF2SVG: I first tried to import a converted dxf. However the files are to big for Inkscape, it crashes when trying to import more around 500 objects. Via Tracing: I tried to get around this problem by tracing the technical line drawing. But then again it resulted in about 400 single objects and 3000 nodes, Inkscape gets very very slow or even crashes. Is it possible to generate a stroke tracing. Generating just a single stroke instead of multitudes of objects or surfaces? Would be intresting to see if there are more users out there who are trying to pass CAD Data into Inkscape and use it for black-and-white line illustrations. I´ve been watching this mailing list for a while and I do get the impression Inkscape is mainly developed for art work, webdesign etc.. However passing geometric CAD data into Inksape is probably not an issue for the Inkcape users. (Hopefully I am wrong there). Command Line Options in 046 (--verb & --select)

I've been playing with the new --verb and --select command line options available in Inkscape 046. Very cool! However, I haven't been able to figure out how to control certain functions like "trace bitmap". I'd like to do the following operations in order at the command line: Import a bitmap file Select the imported bitmap Trace it using a custom threshold setting Delete the imported bitmap Select the resultant path Fit page to selection Save to Inkscape SVG So far, I've only been able to import the bitmap and select it using the following command line entry: "C:\(full path to inkscape)\inkscape.exe" --verb=FileImport "C:\(full path)\testimg.png" --verb=EditSelectAll verb=SelectionTrace Running this command causes the inkscape gui to start, import the png, and select it. However, it won't trace the image. All it does it open the "trace bitmap" dialog. Another weird thing is that the "select file to import" dialog remains open even after the image import is complete. Is that normal, and how do I close it via the command line? Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I'm using the win32 build. Debugging inkscape

Let me back up with a more basic question: how do I debug inkscape? The build make by buildtool.exe doesn't seem to have debug symbols. fprintfs are scattered through the code making me thing those should work, but I found this INKSCAPE_DEBUG_LOG env var, but that doesn't seem to make fprintf stderr output work. Maybe I need to build inkscape as a console app? Where do I set that? Any hints?

CG tutorial done + can I help with documentation?

Hello! I'm done with that tutorial I've mentioned a while ago. It's a multi-part anime CG tutorial, so it's not exactly destined to the most serious crowd, but ah well. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/57134905/ No Salamander sadly. Short of making the girl bald with a lizard tail, I have no idea how to incorporate a salamander into her design. Mammals are so much easier. :S Anyway, it's under Creative Commons license, so go ahead and improve on it if you want, I'll probably be too lazy to. Inkscape and CMYK

I have praised Inkscape as an Illustrator alternative and some have responded that Inkscape has a problem with CMYK. One has suggested that CMYK items get converted to RGB on export or save. 1. are there such limitations? 2. inkscape vs. psfrag

Hello, I am trying to label some gnuplot-generated EPS files with inkscape, in order to then use them in LateX in combination with psfrag. Everything is fine, except that the psfrag anchors are destroyed upon exporting to EPS. Here is an example: http://mvl.chem.tu-berlin.de/people/stetten/inkscape/test_original.eps http://mvl.chem.tu-berlin.de/people/stetten/inkscape/test_inkscape_export.e… (Also, why is the image size and the (relative) size of the BBox changed upon export?) I realize the importance of the "export text as paths" checkbox, and while both settings produce different EPS files, none contains the psfrag labels. I tried with inkscape 0.44.1, 0.45.1, and 0.41 (on Debian). I found several reports on the web that the combination of EPS and inkscape and psfrag works perfectly well. Please help, what am I doing wrong?! Greetings, David

greyscale to sepia?

Have a background image for a book cover that is grayscale. It resembles, and may have been taken from, an old engraving. I imported it from a jpg file.
