Issue tracking for Inkscape moves to Gitlab

Hi all, As of this week, the Inkscape project is shifting to Gitlab for issue tracking in place of Launchpad. https://gitlab.com/groups/inkscape/-/issues We've been using Gitlab for our code hosting and other purposes for a year and a half now[1], and have found it to be reliable and convenient. We didn't migrate Issue Tracking until now, so we could take time to make sure we had a plan: 1. Going forward, new bug reports should be filed only in Gitlab. 2. Launchpad will remain available as a historical archive of our bug reports. Filing bugs there will remain possible for now, but discouraged. 3. Bugs in Launchpad that are still reproducible in Inkscape 0.92.4 or newer can be re-filed on Gitlab and closed on Launchpad. We are planning efforts to help organize the migration work and keep track of progress. More info on this will be coming soon. Eventually, when the necessary bugs have been migrated, bug reporting in Launchpad will be shut off. We're enthused about this change, and hope you too will find gitlab a more user friendly way to report issues, and we'd love your help triaging and solving Inkscape bugs. PDF import broken?

Hi there, I've been using PDF import to get stamps printed by the German postal service and include them into my custom labels for a while now. Always worked perfectly. Recently I upgraded to Ubuntu Mate Cosmic (Inkscape Inkscape 0.92.3 (2405546, 2018-03-11)) and suddenly I noticed that there are some bugs with it. First, when I choose "internal import" when opening the PDF in question, some text (not all interestingly) is messed up and replaced by black diamonds with a while "?" in its center (similar to the character that shows up when there's unknown Unicode characters). When I instead choose the "poppler import" the imported data looks perfect first. However, when I then copy and paste the image into a freshly created Inkscape document, the text becomes very small and messed up. I've a package which includes the original PDF with which I can reliably reproduce the behavior on my system as well as screenshot of how it's supposed to look (looks perfectly in evince), and what the two failure modes look like in inkscape. Setting CSS layer/object blend modes within Inkscape

Hi everyone, I've tried asking this question on the inkscape forum but couldn't find a resolution. http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=34362&p=107468 I'm not sure if I'm not forming my question properly, but here it goes anyway. I'm trying to get inkscape blend modes recognised in Firefox and Chrome but like many I've noticed that the way that Inkscape does it (via filters) isn't recognised in browsers. After some research I've found that blend modes can be set via css https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/mix-blend-mode Amazingly these can be read by Inkscape as well as in a browser! Aside from opening the xml editor and adding in the CSS manually is there any way to set the blend modes using CSS within inkscape? I'm relatively basic Inkscape user trying to learn some new functions. There are two extensions for text that I can't figure out at all: Extract and Merge. I haven't been able to find any directions. Can anyone tell me what these do or where to find information? Thanks!

Looking for a GNU/Linux user with multi-touch touch pad / screen for testing new pinch zoom feature

Hi there! Thomas (speleo3) has just implemented pinch-to-zoom for the Inkscape canvas. As our devs don't have the necessary hardware/system combination to test the new pinch-to-zoom feature for the upcoming Inkscape 1.0 on Linux, we're looking for someone who - has a working multi-touch touch screen or multi-touch trackpad - on a Linux system (most easily probably Ubuntu/Linux Mint/other Ubuntu derivatives, where we have a ppa for installing) - with current (newer than Dec. 22nd 2018) Inkscape master development version installed (find installation options here: https://inkscape.org/releases/master/ - preferably ppa or self-compiled, as the containerization by snap/flatpak could (maybe?) interfere with testing). Can't brew install because of checksum error

How do I install this on OSX? REPOST: Display and User units, Scaling, Measuring Paths, Importing PDF

People, I didn't get an answer to this a year ago and the problem has come again so I thought I would repost to see if I have any more luck with responses this time: If I produce a new drawing on an A4 page with Display and User units in mm with a scaling factor of 1.0, I can draw a rectangle of XxY and when I use the Visualise->Measure Path Extension with a Scale Factor of 100 and Length Unit in m - I get exactly the right dimensions for the rectangle for its perimeter length and area - all good! However, I have imported a surveyor's map from a PDF file into Inkscape SVG (using defaults) and I need to be able to draw rectangles on it as above in mm (like my test) that will correspond to m in the real world but the drawing is on an A3 page and I have tried scaling and everything else I can think of and Googled a lot but I still can't do what I was able to do with my little test case. So: How can I convert the drawing to be on an A4 page with mm units so the mm correspond to m in the real world and the Measure Path Extension will give me the correct result in m and sqm? The original PDF says the scale was 1:500. questions about snapping centers

Hi Friends, Here's the setup. Snap the center of one object of a group (of 2 or more objects) to the center of a rectangle. If you use the option "Snap an item's rotation center", it won't work. Inkscape wants to snap the center of the group to the center of the rectangle. But if you use the option "Snap center of objects", it works like a dream. I've always assumed that the relatively new (well, new-er, anyway) "Snap center of objects" was meant for those unusual cases where the center of an object and the rotation center of an object are not the same spot. But this behavior implies that perhaps "Snap center of objects" has a different purpose (than what I thought). Questions: 1 -- Is there a bug involved in the above scenario? 2 -- Exactly what is the purpose for "Snap center of objects" compared to "Snap an item's rotation center"? 3 -- Could the tootip text (for one or both options) be improved, to better represent how they work? I'm glad to memorialize whatever appropriate request is revealed about this, in a bug report. I'm just not sure exactly which part needs improvement or might be a bug (the behavior or the button names/tooltips). (This was tested with Inkscape 0.92.3 on Windows 7 Pro. Also I had all other snap options disabled, except for the snap center options, during testing.) Thank you very much, brynn

Maybe it is just me but isn't it possible for us to include the forum ( www.inkscapeforum.com) in one of the main menus of the Inkscape website? (maybe under the option "community" of under the option "learn"?) The process involves moving the website to the new CentOS 7.6 server from OSUOSL which is now setup, you can reach this new server by manually setting your /etc/hosts for inkscape.org to 140.211.9.79 and visiting https://inkscape.org Everyone is invited to visit the new site, it looks exactly like the old one. To see if it's still working correctly. It now uses python3 and django 1.11, so there's quite an upgrade planned for all the tech. But so far it's holding steady. Inkscape can be extremely frustrating

All I want to do to begin with is draw a simple Line Circle. (white background with white inside the circle). But instead it draws a dashed-rectangle with (4) little squares. Two squares are on the rectangle and the other two are outside. So, I go into: Edit, Preferences and the Circle it not even listed under Shapes! Crazy. Does anybody know what I should do? Thank you. improve organization of Extensions menu

Hi Friends, As part of my project to get all the known external extensions listed in one place, and trying to organize them (using the current Extensions menu as a starting place) I've realized that how the Extensions menu is organized might need some improvement. I've also discussed it privately with a couple of other users. So I thought I'd bring up the subject with developers. For example. 1 -- Should Stylesheet be a submenu under Web? 2 -- Should Typography be a submenu under Text? Currently, many extension makers seem to be making their own submenus for their extensions. For people who use a lot of external extensions, I wonder if their menus are harder to use. If we had the menu already organized, it might inspire extension makers to put their extensions into the pre-existing submenus, rather than make their own. 3 -- Should there be a Gcode submenu under Export? (more about Export submenu below) In my list, I've created a separate Gcode category. There are lots of external extensions which produce gcode (approx 20). I don't know where they would show up in the Extensions menu, yet (since I just now learned how to find out). But as I said, it might help keep the menu clean, to have submenus ready for the external extensions, even if there might not be any built-in extensions for some submenus. 4 -- Should the current Gcodetools submenu appear within this proposed Gcode submenu? 5 -- To accomodate external extensions, both Render and Export need to be divided into several submenus. 6 -- I've also created a new category (for my list) Animation/Presentation (currently 10 or 12 of them). It seems like the existing JessyInk submenu should go under there (assuming we were to agree on adding such a submenu). 7 -- There are 3 external extensions which comprise a Boolean category. But shouldn't Boolean be under the existing Modify Path submenu? 8 -- And once I get all the external ones organized, I guess other instances of potentially improved organization might come to light. The one Inkscape frustration affecting me

Hi all, Inkscape is one of the best pieces of software I use. It's sometimes hard to use, but the concept of drawing is very complex, so there's only so simple Inkscape can be made. The one Inkscape thing that gets me is switching between having the stroke grow or shrink with the object, when the object is grown or shrunk, as opposed to having the stroke width stay constant. I've given up and just scale rectangles in rectangle mode, or if I need to grow something big (perhaps because it's in a group), I just have to manually change the stroke width EDT (Every Darn Time). I know there's a toggle for this somewhere, but I can't find it in the docs or in experimentation. Wherever this toggle is, it should be shouted from the rooftops in the Inkscape documentation, and also made very obvious and prominent in the menu system, which is the best route toward discovery. By the way, help->Inkscape_Manual fails to bring up a web page on my system. It would be great if you had a copy-and-pasteable (and perhaps clickable) URL of the manual on the Help->About window. organizing external extensions - need a little help

Hi Friends, I'm working on a project to list all the external extensions, on the same page where I have all the best tutorials listed (https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php) I already have a list made -- approx 300 of them. And I've made an attempt at organizing them. I'm using the current Extensions menu as a starting place for categories. That seems like the most logical way in which users might search for them (or expect to find them). The Render and Export categories have so many that I've made sub-categories. Plus I made a new one called Animation, which holds both animation and presentation type of extensions. But I'm stuck with approx 45 of them which I'm not sure where they would belong. Plus, I might not have gotten the ones I did organize in the proper place. Often extensions might fit in more than one category, but usually one is better than the other. I wonder if anyone might have some time, to help me out with this? I've uploaded an ODT file as an attachment in this forum topic (which I've also requested any forum members who might have time to help). https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?topic=1261.0 For clarity, these are specifically what I need help with: -- At the bottom (last 3 pages) is a category called "Unsure". Those are the ones I need the most help with. Ideally I'd like all of them categorized....except that there are several extensions I found which don't have descriptions, and their titles aren't very helpful with knowing what they do either. So there could realistically be a few left over which can't fit into a category. -- There are subcategories in Render and Export called "Other" (among several other subcats). There should be several extensions from "Other" which can fit into other subcategories. -- Generally if you notice any that I put in the wrong place, please move them to the correct place. For anyone who can help, please just edit that file, and upload it somewhere. (The file itself is just my working list. It's not going on the webpage, so don't worry about the formatting or font. I'll deal with that when I code the page.) I really appreciate any help which anyone can offer. And I think it will benefit the community as well, to have sort of a master list available, so users don't have to spend so much time searching the internet. Thank you very much, brynn

Thank you for helping me with the problem I had with Inkscape. But I am just getting too many e-mails from the group than I could ever read. So, I would like to unsubscribe for now. I can always check the archives when I have time. Thank you. Ken
