The highlights of this release are: * A Welcome dialog, where the look of Inkscape can be selected, and some choices for the new document's size or file to open are available * A Command palette that opens when the '?' key is pressed, that allows to search and use many functions without having to use a keyboard shortcut or going through the menus * It is now possible to copy, cut and paste parts of paths with the Node tool * The dialog docking system has been rewritten, which resolves many issues with Inkscape's docked dialogs and allows you to dock dialogs on either side of the screen * New Outline Overlay mode that displays object outlines while also showing their real colors * Preferences options are now easier to find by using the new search field * It is no longer necessary to remember to click on 'Export' in the PNG Export dialog, as the exporting will already happen after the click on 'Save' in the file selection dialog. * Export as JPG, TIFF, optimized PNG and WebP directly from Inkscape * When pasting a copied object, Inkscape now pastes it directly on top of the currently selected object by default * An extension for updating extensions and installing additional extensions, called the Extension Manager (currently in beta stage) We also introduced a long list of new features outlined in detail and illustrated at https://media.inkscape.org/media/doc/release_notes/1.1/Inkscape_1.1.html . ----------------------------- Join an Inkscape project team ----------------------------- Inkscape is always happy to welcome new contributors in various areas: code[1], translation[2], UX[3], bug triaging[4], or even outreach[5]! Inkscape 1.1 release candidate is available !

Hi to all Inkscapers! We just launched the Release Candidate of Inkscape 1.1, with a plan to have roughly three weeks of testing for a release around May 24th. You can get it here: ================================= https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.1/?latest=1 ================================= (source tarball, linux appimage, windows installers and macOS dmg are available) We encourage you to use it as you would use Inkscape 1.1 stable, in order to find any problems people may encounter with the release. In particular, if you find any regressions, please do submit a bug report as soon as possible on https://inkscape.org/report : if nothing major is reported, the state of that release candidate should be close to the release. If you want to help with the translations to your language, it's still possible to submit those until close to the release date. Thanks to everyone involved in this release ! -- Marc

1.1-beta available

Hi everyone! We recently released Inkscape 1.1-beta, while planning to release 1.1 next month. You can get the release at https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.1beta1/ for all platforms All testers are encouraged to test this version and report bugs at inkscape.org/report == Packagers == The tarball is not expected to differ much to the beta one, if you want to check that everything is all right for your platform :) == Translators == Thanks for your work! Strings have been frozen for a while, and it's not too late to submit translations until shortly before release date. == Developers == We have now branched the code repo. The new branch 1.1.x now only welcomes bugfixes, translations and easy-to-review changes; while features, performance, code improvements, or anything that was left waiting in prevision of 1.1 are free to go to the main branch. == All contributors == Thanks everyone for your contributions! Modifying the opacity of objects inside a group

Dear all, I want to modify the opacity of objects inside a group. This is for a theme, so I need to do many such operations. Currently, I ungroup, select the objects, modify the opacity, group again, and rename the group. This is time consuming so I would like to go faster by not ungrouping the objects. So I try to enter the group and select the object. Unfortunately, when I do that, I always see the opacity of the objects at 100%, so it seems this is not the real opacity of the object and I cannot increase it. Do I miss something? What am I doing wrong? Thank you for your help, Frédéric

Wacom tablet question

greetings netizens... I have a question regarding the use of a wacom tablet, specifically key presses that are mapped via GNOME settings on the Wacom section or if somehow wacom is the culprit in this case. I'm uncertain if the issue is as a result of mapping the keys in the GNOME settings or if Inkscape needs some time to interpret those mapped keys. So to get into it, I have mapped the three buttons in GNOME settings to use inkscape shortcuts and they work a good 85% of the time. The issue is that crops up is that, sometimes when pressing those keys Inkscape brings up another dialogue box, which I'm guessing is Inkscape interpreting me pressing those shortcuts keys and me getting the wrong resulting command (the dialogue box). Here is the exact scenario. I have a set of multiple images that need to be clipped, duplicated, and converted to a bitmap then continuing along the task of clipping those images from the various areas on the image. How can I avoid this happening? Or is the only way to press the mapped keys at a slower rate?
