The Inkscape project has grown so much in the last couple years, and we have teams spread all over the internet, working on improving Inkscape and helping the project and its users. Also, we have lots of exciting new things to decide upon together as the Contributors' Team! For this reason, we've thought of trying out something new to allow every contributor to also contribute their ideas for the future of the project as a whole: The "Inkscape Office Hours"! ============================ The first meeting of this kind will take place on Friday, 16th July (today!) at 5 p.m. UTC (in your timezone: https://inkscape.org/cals/ ) If it is well received and productive, we'll make this a regular thing. We will have members from the Inkscape Board there, and also some of the other people who are most involved with Inkscape matters on a day-to-day basis. Any collaboration features built into Inkscape?

Hi all, I'm writing a book, and one chapter compares and contrasts vector drawing programs. This specific section is about several people in several cities getting together via Jitsi or Zoom or GotoMeeting or whatever and working on a diagram together. I'd envision one participant making changes, then another participant, etc. I wouldn't anticipate two doing it simultaneously: That would be a recipe for disaster. So does Inkscape in any way facilitate this kind of collaboration? I'd like to fully fund development of specific features in Inkscape, but didn't see an easy way to contact developers already familiar with the code base on the Inkscape web-site. Do you folks have any suggestions? Unexpected behavior in version Inkscape 1.1 (c68e22c387, 2021-05-23)

Hi all, I'm using Inkscape 1.1 (c68e22c387, 2021-05-23), and running into unexpected behavior with text, as explained below: My drawing has a text item with hard newlines and specific spacing between baselines (1.1). I save it as plain SVG, close the file, then reopen it. The text item's baseline to baseline appears to have reverted to 1.0, but the text now appears to be on one line, and if I insert newlines, everything just gets jumbled together on the same line. If I add material, different lines have different baseline to baseline distances. The bottom line is I have to completely recreate the text item from scratch on every edit, which slows things to say the least. This is probably intermittent, because I have another text item that so far, from minimal investigation, appears not to have this problem. I can also tell you that I seem to remember problems like this (rarely) in earlier versions, but I can't remember any details. * Has anybody else encountered this? * Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong, and how to do it right? The highlights of this release are: * A Welcome dialog, where the look of Inkscape can be selected, and some choices for the new document's size or file to open are available * A Command palette that opens when the '?' key is pressed, that allows to search and use many functions without having to use a keyboard shortcut or going through the menus * It is now possible to copy, cut and paste parts of paths with the Node tool * The dialog docking system has been rewritten, which resolves many issues with Inkscape's docked dialogs and allows you to dock dialogs on either side of the screen * New Outline Overlay mode that displays object outlines while also showing their real colors * Preferences options are now easier to find by using the new search field * It is no longer necessary to remember to click on 'Export' in the PNG Export dialog, as the exporting will already happen after the click on 'Save' in the file selection dialog. * Export as JPG, TIFF, optimized PNG and WebP directly from Inkscape * When pasting a copied object, Inkscape now pastes it directly on top of the currently selected object by default * An extension for updating extensions and installing additional extensions, called the Extension Manager (currently in beta stage) We also introduced a long list of new features outlined in detail and illustrated at https://media.inkscape.org/media/doc/release_notes/1.1/Inkscape_1.1.html . ----------------------------- Join an Inkscape project team ----------------------------- Inkscape is always happy to welcome new contributors in various areas: code[1], translation[2], UX[3], bug triaging[4], or even outreach[5]! Inkscape 1.1 release candidate is available !

Hi to all Inkscapers! We just launched the Release Candidate of Inkscape 1.1, with a plan to have roughly three weeks of testing for a release around May 24th. You can get it here: ================================= https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.1/?latest=1 ================================= (source tarball, linux appimage, windows installers and macOS dmg are available) We encourage you to use it as you would use Inkscape 1.1 stable, in order to find any problems people may encounter with the release. In particular, if you find any regressions, please do submit a bug report as soon as possible on https://inkscape.org/report : if nothing major is reported, the state of that release candidate should be close to the release. If you want to help with the translations to your language, it's still possible to submit those until close to the release date. Thanks to everyone involved in this release ! -- Marc
