Is there a Linux distro that includes Inkscape 48.2? I have the usual trouble getting all the libraries installed on slackware. The libraries are there but Inkscape compile doesn't find them. 02/25 IRC Meeting Agenda

Hey all, Here is a slightly modified agenda for the irc meeting in ~2 hours. Sorry that the formatting is probably not ideal, it's my first shot as this is the first official meeting that I can remember in the past 8 years. Just a reminder, the meeting is scheduled for UTC 02/25 0800. *Inkscape 0.48.3.1 packaging *Inkscape 0.49 -Remaining refactoring goals --Handling of svg:switch not as a kind of group, but as a "transparent" element that is effectively replaced by the best choice in the SP tree --SVG 1.1 fallback for flowtext (probably depends on the above) --UI & Document coordinates --Markers matching stroke by default (user preference vs current default behavior) --Better architecture for LPEs (similar to SVG 2.0 vector effects) --User visible version numbering -Status -Release Plan *GSOC 2012 -Focus -Goals -Mentoring -Getting new students *SVG2 -Implementation strategies --Fallback support for older versions of the spec and inkscape specific features (markers inheriting properties for example) -Low hanging fruit -Most important features to our userbase --Helping Tavmjong with the Mesh branch -Initial Vector Effects support (non-destructive boolean ops might be a good target) *CSS3 support *Javascript support *Membership changes on the Inkscape Board *What we need in upstream libraries (including 2geom) *Old/unfinished code -Lessons learned -Cleanup *Release schedule moving forward -Fixed schedule -Schedule timing -Developer needs -Translator needs *Platform specific issues (and responsibilities) *Regular IRC Meetings (monthly is ideal, quarterly would be as a good minimum) Looking forward to seeing whoever shows up. newbie question...

I have a CG rendering that I want to create a jagged edge along one side - like this: cid:image002.png@...2944... (well, this shows 2 sides; and I will just need the right side.) I created this example with Snagit and I am usually content with the results. But today I am in need of a much larger image: ~10k x 6.6k (pixels) and Snagit just can't cut it. I can create a path that sorta looks like what I want, but I am not sure how to use layers and transparency, etc. to get what I need. This might be a lot to ask through a forum. If so, please feel free to direct me to a tutorial, or some other lesson / resource. Any hints or tips? Thanks a lot! -Nate

The specification directly influences how easy some features can be implemented by Inkscape (think arrowhead color matching stroke color). The SVG working group is almost finished going through the request for changes to the specification for SVG 2. This is your chance to influence the next version of the spec. Happy to announce the 0.48.3 release of Inkscape being out the door. Of course this is only the source release, binaries will be along shortly. Inconsistent behaviour?

People, If I create a few objects - rectangles and ellipses - and then select the whole group and rotate it - these two operations behave differently - they should do the same thing?: 1. Clicking on the "Rotate 90 Clockwise" tool button 2. Clicking "]" six times - (2) does what I want - (1) appears to be rotating the individual objects? Script to grab outline and create svg files?

I am new to inkscape and would like to know if it is possible to automate the following process to create svg files (I have manually succeeded in it), and if so, what does the script look like and how should it be executed? In the manual process, I perform the following steps to create the svg file. 1) Open inkscape 2) Open File->Document Properties and set size to 1000 x 1000 3) Type t 4) Drag a rectangle (this step and previous step are needed to activate the Append button used in Step 7) 5) Click on Text -> Glyphs 6) Choose Font family, script and range (this is not English, which is why I need this step) 7) Click characters and click append for each character clicked (more than one character is involved, and I click on the character since I use an English keyboard but the language I am interested is not English) 8) Ctrl-Shift-C to grab the outline of the text 9) Save as svg by clicking File->Save As I need to automate this process to create a number of svg files, some of which are formed due to the outline of multiple characters.
