Some usage questions and observations, mostly about paths

I'm currently drawing a lot of maps, especially with municipality boundaries etc, this means a lot of closed paths, which should fit together like a puzzle. The snap function is a great help to this, but from another source I got some parts where the path is not closed, but the start and endpoint is there twice, without being connected. Now I can select both start and endpoint, and click on the -o o- v --o-- button (join selected end nodes) in the toolbar. Is there a shortcut for this? There isn't even a menu entry... The same is valid: I have selected a subpath between two nodes, is there a way to add nodes in between other than the (+)-button in the toolbar? (I know of the double click, but if I want fast a lot of new nodes, this becomes rather tiresome. Another thing with nodes: if I select only a few nodes from a path, and press the arrows, only these nodes move. The transformation tool though operates only on the entire path, so I cannot move a subset of nodes in a path by a fixed amount of pixels (e.g. make a zig zag line by selecting only the even nodes and moving them up a fixed amount). I have only one object, let's say a rectangular shape on the canvas, from 100,100 to 300,200. If I now select 'adjust canvas size to object' from the document settings, the object in the xml still has 100,100, 300,200 as coordinates, but a transform(-100,-100) applied to it all. How can I apply the transformation to all objects, so that the object's coordinates (in the xml) would be 0,0 - 200,100? And last, how does one make a distinction (and possibly convert) a path with absolute coordinates (uppercase M at the beginning of the path) to a path with relative coordinates (lowercase m)? I think this should be as easy as changing the path's direction -- cheers, Alex

Announcement: Scribus 1.3.8 and Scribus Presentation Template Package Released

The Scribus Team is pleased to announce the release of Scribus 1.3.8. This new release brings us closer to version the next stable release 1.4. During this development period the team focused again on stabilty and correctness. More than 60 bugs have been resolved since the release of 1.3.7. In particular, import filters and PDF export have been improved. This version also adds a number of usabilty improvements, as well as documentation and translation updates. http://bugs.scribus.net/changelog_page.php?version_id=76 lists all changes made to 1.3.8. The Scribus Team considers this version to be quite stable and ready for most real-world use cases. However, since there are still some issues that we wish to fix before releasing version 1.4, more cautious users may want to prefer to stick with the officially stable version 1.3.3.14. The Scribus Team will continue to implement new features and improvements in our 1.5.0 development branch. Features that can be backported may become part of the 1.4 milestone. ==Important Information== Please note that we have branched our code repository: * 1.3.9svn code (the next iteration of the development version and possibly the last before the release of 1.4) is available from the "Version135" branch: (svn://scribus.info/Scribus/branches/Version135/) * trunk (=experimental) is now versioned 1.5.0svn (svn://scribus.info/Scribus/trunk) and continues to undergo heavy changes. Intersecting lines

Hi all, I have two intersecting lines drawn with bezier tool. I need a tool that split these lines at every intersection, but I'm not able to find the right tool in the path menu. Cannot get condensed fonts

Hello, For some reason Inkscape does not show me the condensed fonts on my system. I am running Ubuntu (Lucid) and I have some DejaVu condensed fonts installed: % ls /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/*Condensed* /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSansCondensed-BoldOblique.ttf /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSansCondensed-Bold.ttf /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSansCondensed-Oblique.ttf /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSansCondensed.ttf /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSerifCondensed-BoldItalic.ttf /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSerifCondensed-Bold.ttf /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSerifCondensed-Italic.ttf /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSerifCondensed.ttf So I go to inkscape, select some text and click on the little "T" button to get additional font options. There, I select DejaVu Sans and under "Style" I see options like normal and Semi-Condensed, but I do not see Condensed. Does anyone know what's going on? Is it possible that DejaVu does not actually *have* condensed fonts and all the files that say "Condensed" are actually mislabeled and they are really only semi-condensed? Thanks for the help. -- Intolerant people should be shot.

I'm struggling with node selection

Hi! That's my first try with Inkscape and I think I've broken it. Every time I select 2+ nodes with the "Edit path by nodes" tool the critter add 1 other node between the 2 selected. See the little wmv attached :) I know...I've clicked something not supposed to be clicked :°D Thank in advance for you help :) -- http://www.albertobua.com

Inkscape problem or broken svg ?

Hi, have a look at http://de.wikibooks.org/wiki/SVG , there's an embedded SVG graphics. When I dowload this svg from http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikibooks/de/7/72/SVG_Buch01.svg I can use it with rsvg, but not with inkscape. inkscape just shows a completely empty canvas. (using inkscape 0.47.0 from ubuntu 10.04). Is that a problem of inkscape or a problem of the svg file? regards Hadmut

Inkscape just stop

Good day. Using inkscape about to finish a drawing I get a screen that say INKSCAPE HAS STOPED WORKING. I am fairly new to the program and enjoying it a lot, I have still got to learn a lot about the use but have made a lot of drawings that really impressed me. Another point how do you upgrade inkscape I can't seem to find it. I am running Windows 7 Professional and have seen that it is not on your list for compatible programs, could this be a problem I use to run on XP Professional with no problems at all and that was before the 4.8 upgrade. UniConvertor 1.1.5 release
