Hi all, In the next version, I suggest access to the text tool be placed in the Text submenu, either right above or right below Text>Text_and_Font. So it would be Text>Text_tool. I haven't looked at the source code in 7 years, but I think this would be as simple as adding menu item Text>Text tool and having it call win.tool-switch('Text') on left click. Icons and hotkeys are wonderful time savers, but in my opinion they don't relieve the need of a functionality being reachable from the menu, so the functionality is reachable without dangerous trial and error. Also, for some unknown reason, Shift-t didn't invoke the text tool, although F8 did. I tried looking for the key bindings, but all I found was in an extension called "Jesseink", and those weren't what was needed. So what do you think? Substituting colors in Inkscape

Hi all, I have a sketch .jpg whose lines are green. I want to convert the green lines to #FF86F8. Is there a way to do this in Inkscape? I know this is really a job for a pixel editor, but now that Gimp requires a PhD to operate, and all the rest of the Linux pixel editors are junk, I'm hoping to get Inkscape to do it. Are there workarounds for dependence on deprecated-simple extensions?

Hi, I'm running - Pop! OS 22.04 LTS - Inkscape 1.1.2 (0a00cf5339, 2022-02-04) - Python 3.10.12 Recently, I went looking for an SVG to POV converter and found the Inkscape Extensions Gallery had an Inkscape to POVray extension -- with a link to a newer, improved version on an external site. Also, while browsing the gallery I thought I might someday use the Render Barcode extension. However, they both want to use simplepath, simpletransform, cubicsuperpath, and cspsubdiv, which I find in /usr/share/inkscape/extensions/inkex/deprecated-simple/, but which the extensions themselves do not find. Discoverable way to do the same thing as the Text Tool

Hi all, I use the Text Tool, the little icon containing an A and a cursor, quite a bit and am now writing documentation on how to do things. To a newbie all those icons get confusing, so I'm looking for way to use the text tool from the menu system, and couldn't find it. I know I can also press the t key, but this isn't really discoverable either. How do you invoke the Text Tool from the menu system? Thanks, SteveT Steve Litt http://444domains.com

Right tool for the job?

I'm hoping some experienced Inkscape users can confirm what I'm trying to do is a good fit for Inkscape - or not. I want to create control panels for electronic equipment which will be printed or laser-engraved. Mostly text, but some simple graphics, and svg output is needed, so my first thought was Inkscape was the right tool for the job. The problem I've been trying to overcome is in positioning text and graphics precisely where it needs to be. What I'd like is the to position text and graphic objects by center point and position them at specific X-Y locations on the drawing. For example, say I want to position a 1/4" diameter circle precisely over a hole that is located 2" in the X dimension and 1" in the Y dimension (i.e. XY coordinates 2", 1") from the lower left corner of the panel (which is 0",0"). While I've been able to manually subtract the radius or 1/8" and position my circle at 1.875", .875" - that method is more prone to error, especially when it has to be done dozens or hundreds of times. I've tried grids and guides and snapping but haven't found the combination that puts things exactly where I need them. So my question is, can Inkscape be configured to do what I want to do, and if so, how? I've read the manual and watched tutorials and while but haven't found what I need on my own and thought it would save a lot of time if I'd just explain what I would like in enough detail that more experienced users could offer an opinion. I know that Inkscape is very powerful and does many things well, but if this isn't one of them I'd rather find a tool that does than continue to be frustrated. Thanks in advance, Bob
